How do you vaccinate your dog yourself?
The method ov vaccinating a dog or cat is not difficult. Vaccinating pets should be done by a veterinarian. Therei is more to vaccination than just giving a shot. Most veterinarians vaccinate pets based on risk of disease. All pets do not need the same vaccinations. When your vet vaccinates your pet you can be assured that the producs he is using are safe and effective, They have been shipped and stored properly and are current in date. When you purchase vaccinations elsewhere there is no guarantee that they have been shipped and stored properly. Also you may be vaccinating for diseases that your pet is not at risk for and visa versa. Also if your pet should have a reaction to a vaccination your veterinarian is on hand to manage it. Rabies vaccinations are only legally gien by a licensed veterinarian. Make sure first you have the proper vaccinations and they have not be compromised in any way. Vaccinations prior to applying must be kept refridgerated. You can purchase vaccinations from your local feed store or pet store. It is possible they can advise you as to the application, if not, contact your vet.
What is going on Puppy foaming at the mouth no bite marks?
This will depend upon the circumstances in which your puppy was foaming at the mouth.
I would start with, what breed is your puppy? Certain breeds, such as St. Bernards, will naturally create a lot of saliva that can turn into bubbles and look like the puppy is foaming at the mouth. This is natural and will continue for the rest of the dog's life.
Second, was your puppy highly excited at the time? The more energetic your puppy is, the more likely it is that he/she could create saliva bubbles. This is also normal, and will go away when your puppy calms down.
Third, was your puppy out exploring on his/her own without supervision? Puppies can try eating things like toads and noxious plants that can cause excessive salivation; if the bubbles don't stop within a half hour, call your veterinarian for more advice.
Fourth, is your puppy showing any other signs of illness, like harsh breathing sounds, vomiting, diarrhea or lack of energy? If so, this may be a medical emergency and I would suggest a trip to the veterinarian immediately.
Fifth, and highly unlikely, your puppy may have rabies - foaming at the mouth is a classic sign of this disease. If this is the case, you need to take your puppy to a veterinarian and it will probably die in the next couple of weeks. You need your veterinarian to collect samples to test for rabies if this happens (the testing is free, incidentally) so that you and your family can be treated for exposure to prevent you dying from rabies as well.

How do you teach a dog to play fetch?
As you probably already know Jack Russell Terriers are high energy dogs and are quite stubborn. He should have been trained long ago, but it's not too late. If you go to your vet and ask where there are good training classes or, got to a place like Petcetera they do have training classes there. You are the "boss" of this dog and HE/SHE needs to know it!
You can try what my family does for our dogs.
1. find a toy that the dog has taken a strong liking to.
2. get a friend or family member help you
3. when you see the dog playing with the toy, being taking the toy from your dog then giving it back right away. do this a few times to insure you keep the dogs interest.
4. once you are sure you have the dogs interest take the toy and hand it to your assistant. have him/her stand a few feet away and call the dog. Once the dog response to them instruct them to give the dog the toy.
5. After you assistant gives the dog the toy immediately call the dog to you and take the toy back (give the dog a treat).
6. Repeat process a few more times
DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A COUPLE OF WEEKS:
Once your dog learns to expect these actions you can move on to throwing the ball back and forth with your assistant and the dog will automatically follow the ball. Make sure that every time you or you assistant receive the ball you hand it to the dog and the dog is instructed by you or them to come bringing the ball back to the person who threw it (Make sure to give reward for returning toy to you). Eventually the dog will learn that if it brings the toy back with it he/she will receive some kind of reward. Once you notice the dog automatically returning the toy to you, you should begin to change up the routine a little bit at a time. Adding new commands such as Fetch every time you or your assistant throw the toy and/or changing the distance the dog has to travel is a good way to start. Eventually, your dog will learn what is expected of him/her and you can gradually stop giving the treats and/or having your assistant close by to help you and start just giving the command Fetch when throwing the toy. Your dog should return the toy to you without any outside help. Hope that I explained this well enough for you to understand what I mean {because until today I really never gave thought to how I trained my dogs I just did it}.

The way I taught my dogs to fetch was to take his/ her favorite toy and put peanut butter on it. The dog will soon get the idea that playing fetch is a treat to him/her. If you taught the dog to come then you would have no problem getting him to come back to you . So all you have to do when the dog gets the toy is to yell "come" (nicely) and the dog should come back with the toy.

To decrease the anesthetic risk of an older dog going into surgery, the following are typically recommended by vets:
PRE SURGICAL BLOOD WORK- this lets us know if the liver and kidneys are functioning well enough to be able to handle the anesthetic
IV FLUIDS- helps keep blood pressure up, keeps the dog hydrated, makes recovery time faster and easier and helps flush the system of anesthetic
Propofol- this drug should be used as the induction agent when putting the dog 'under' before they are put onto the anesthetic gas (isoflurane) The reason being that propofol is metabolised by the lungs instead of the liver/kidneys.
