Dog Behavior

Dogs are unable to talk just like we do, but we can still understand their feelings by observing their behavior and body language. It is compulsory that an owner is aware of his dog's body language, as it will not only strengthen their bond, but will also prevent tragic results where the owner is forced to abandon his dog due to behavior problems. In this category, there are questions relating to the different body languages of dogs, their behavior, etc.

Why do dogs bark when you leave the house?

How do you know their crying rather then inviting all their friends and throwing a random party if your gone? XD. Dog's cry when you leave because they are pack animals, which means they follow the alpha ((you)).

Wolves and dog's are much more alike then we think when it comes to actions. In wolf packs, it is not normal for the alpha to leave the pack behind, so when your dog sees you leave, he/she may think you are abandoning them.

There are a few other theries of why dog's cry, but I don't have much time to post more then this one.

Why do dogs jaws sometimes shake?

I am not sure what you mean by shiver. Is it something unnatural and caused by illness--Or is it the little tooth shiverer. The tooth shiver opening and closing the jaw very Little and very fast-to me has always meant the dog is happy beyond words. My dog will do that when I sit on the floor and pat her rub her ears. I feel it is a doggy grin.

You can give your dog the ff:

* Give your dog healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables: apple slices, carrot sticks, orange segments, banana slices, and frozen vegetables are all canine favorites.

* It's okay to give your dog a little bite of what you had for dinner, but only the bits you'd eat yourself--no fat or gristle, please!

* Some foods aren't good for dogs and can cause serious health problems. These include chocolate, onions, raisins, and grapes.

* Make sure what you buy is high in protein, not grain-based, and that it's AAFCO-tested. The AAFCO, the American Association of Feed Control Officials, is a watchdog group that sets food-testing and labeling standards.

give them any DOG food you think is good

Primarily, I feed mine Science Diet small bites, but at dinner time, our yorkie will eat whatever protein/meat we are having. Of course, if it's fried, I'll peel off the fried stuff or I also keep grilled chicken strips just for him in case he can't eat what we're eating.

How effective are bark collars?

Bark control collars should only be used as a last resort, second to surgically de-barking the dog, which in my opinion is cruel and unfair to the dog. It should be used when your dog will not stop barking no matter what attempts you have made.

It is crucial that before resorting to this, or as you are actually using this collar, that you are making every attempt to keep your dog amused. Most dogs bark out of boredom when they bark for long periods of time. If you are leaving your dog outside alone all day, with no toys or companions, this is most likely the reason for it barking! Buy it some toys, such as a kong toy or give it an empty ice cream container without the lid, and slide it along the ground. Yes, it will be very noisy when your dog plays with it, but this is better than it barking! Or you could just get a dog-safe stuffed or squeaky toy if you have the money! And remember to keep your dog fed, watered, and with access to shelter and warmth or freedom from draughts!

Remember: bark control collars are very uncomfortable for the dog, whether they release a bad citronella smell or whether they shock. If you care for your dog at all, you will make every attempt to fix the problem with minimal collar use!

Why do dogs bark at the mailman?

Dogs may bark at mailmen, because the think strangers are approaching their Territory, they are trying to protect you, its a old dog thing, don't worry.

Its quite natural for them to bark at the front door, if someone rings the bell or knocks on the door, so that's it really.

Hope i helped.

How does a dog bark?

it barks by sucking in air and blowing out fast ( just like a human wold bark LOL )

How often does a puppy needs to poop?

As often as they eat. You do not have to take them outside or anything. They do not have control over their bowels and bladders yet, so Mom licks their bellies to make them go, then she cleans up after them. It is kind of a survival technique, because if they were in the wild and a predator saw young puppy droppings, they would know there is free dinner within 10 feet. She will do this until they are about 2 weeks old, then they will go by themselves and you will have the never-ending task of changing newspaper under the puppies.

Where do dead dogs go at the vets?

Call your veterinarian for instructions, or your local animal control agency. They should be able to tell you if it is safe to bury your dog at your home or, if you cannot or choose not to bury the dog, they can usually take care of the body for you.

Is it good for a puppy to sleep a lot?

Hes tired...remember he is only small and is still growing, so he will need to sleep lots.

I suggest you walk him when he is awake so that he doesnt become lazy...that might make him more active however it also means he will sleep longer too.

Why does a dog wag its tail when excited?

If you've never known , we actually wag a tail too. It is a tail in your body called a sacrum. Dogs actually have a sacrum which has extra bones attached called Caudal vertebrae also known as tail bones. You have a sacrum that wags when your happy too. It is just a part of your body that is connected to emotion like when you are sad, tears come from your eyes. Dogs don't cry but we do. Weird huh.

Why do dogs get stuck together?

This part of the mating process is called the tie. The tie happens when the male's penis swells after ejaculation and the female's vagina squeezes to ensure that the semen gets and stays inside her. Usually what happens after mating is the male will twist around so that the two animals are facing in opposite directions. They will be 'tied' together. They may whine as if they are in distress however this is normal in a natural breeding. If you try to separate them it may cause injury. Be patient and keep both dogs calm. They will separate after about twenty to thirty minutes. A tie is NOT needed for a female to become pregnant.

Do dogs regurgitate food?

Yes they do! Not all do, but to birds regurgitation is an important way to not only feed their chicks, who are completely dependent on their parents for easily swallow-able food, but also to show affection and to share food with their mates. It's completely normal for birds to do so.

Are pit bulls legal in tn?

It depends on your city and county laws. Check with your local authorities (animal control, city, and/or county police departments). It is not illegal in all areas of TN, but shelters have been recently flooded with Pit Bulls and suspected Pit Bull mixes,. Some are county wide laws, some are city, so you have to check your locals. I myself have a Pit Bull mix, but before I adopted it from the shelter, I did contact all authorities. I recommend everyone does, just in case legal petitions are looking likely in your area of passing.

Do female pitbulls get along with other female pitbulls?

No. Not all. I have 3 pit bulls and my parents have 2 pit bulls. Ages range from 2-7 years. On holidays we bring the dogs along and they run and play together just fine. So they get along and only see each other maybe 4 times a year. My brother has a 5 yr old. catahoula leopard mix (taller & heavier than all of them) and she fits right into the mix. However, our dogs were treated like normal dogs from puppyhood. I'm sure people who teach pit bulls to "hate" other pit bulls will find they "hate" other breeds as well.

:) Hope this helps.

Is dog mans best friend and why?

because they are not faithful, you could give them 5 days of attention a day even if you treat them lovingly and they will not love you.

Above there is a statement that is a total lie. Dog is one of the many animals in life that can be one of the most useful animals in the world. The Statement above is clearly stating that the person who has typed this is a dog hater and we do not like your kind around here.

Personally i have 2 dogs and my sister has 1 dog and they all appreciate us as loving owners. They are happy and they play with us and we play with them.

Mostly the saying that a dog is mans best friend is one of the most truthful things there has been said in history.

p.s.- the person who has wrote the whole second paragraph is a dog lover and the person who has wrote the statement above my paragraph is most likely a dog hater or a person who had a dog but it had run away because it did not like you for how you treated it. good day sir.

Why does your dog pee and poo in the house?

Well, there are a few answers to that.

Your Yorkie pees on everything in your house because...

1. It is marking its territorry.

2. You don't take it out to pee.

3. A Yorkie is a dog and that's what dogs do.

If this doesn't answer your question then good luck.

How do you stop biting your fingernails?

You can buy a solution from most chemists and stores around the globe that you put on your nails (it is clear) and it tastes absolutely disgusting so you try not to bite them.

Most people find it effective but not everybody.

Good Luck!

AnswerThere are also ways to stop biting your fingernails that you can find around the house. For example: If you are a girl, then you can paint your fingernails. You would not want to mess up your decorated nails. Another option is basically what the answer above says. You can put something on your nails that tastes really gross, like pure vanilla extract. It smells wonderful, but tastes horrible.

How can you tell if a male dog mated with a female dog?

There is no way to officially know if a persons dog is gay. Some people feel that their dog is gay simply because their dog gets "frisky" with another dog of the same sex. This happens frequently and is quite normal. It is done purely for domination reasons.

How do you stop a dog from sleeping under the blanket?

First you must train them not to sleep with you,if he/she is a large dog,I would get a big dog bed put it beside my bed and cover him/her up,and keep doing this until he/she learns,if he/she is a small dog(under 20lbs)I would get him/her a blanket and cover him/her up on the top of your covers and train him/her to stay under his/her own covers.

How old are dogs when they are in heat?

All depends on the dog, ask your vet Typically from four to six months of age.

What does it mean when your dog cant use her legs anymore?

The symptoms you've described can have many causes, and all of they are pretty grim. Dogs tend to mask pain or malady far better than humans, as an injured dog in a wild pack is at risk, so if the animal is clearly displaying these symptoms, you have a real problem.

Describing what this could come from would take forever to explain, and wouldn't help, as I doubt you have the facilities to diagnose then treat whatever this is.

Please get this animal to a vet ASAP.
