Hello, I have a male cat , he is very attentive , he is like a watch cat , I know he can hear me coming sometimes when im 4 houses down the road , just my feet on the sidewalk, he starts to make his noise , I know they have great hearing , im sure they can hear things that we normally cant hear ourselves in our surroundings , their hearing makes them very well aware of whats going on around them .

I don't know what makes a dog purr but my 5 year old Scottie purrs when he is happy about something. He has always done this. I can't describe the sound but it is somewhat like a loud but soft purr, soft trill type thing where you think the vocal cords are vibrating. The dog does it sometimes when you throw the ball for him, open a door for him to come in or go out, clean his hinny after #2.
