Why is dog Losing fur by licking the same spot constantly?

It may be due to either fleas or fox mites among other things. My dog was licking and biting his paws over and over until all the fur was gone. We gave him some stronger flea liquid (Stronghold) and within a week the fur was growing back.

Obviously this might not be the case with your dog and it's probably a good idea to take him to the vet and ask a professional opinion. Trained vets will be able to determine exactly what is wrong and how to treat it.

Answer:

when a dog has a sore for a long period of time it may lick it, this will become a habit and the dog will continue licking the spot after the sore is gone. this is called lick granulama and it can cause loss of fur and sores.

It is flea dirt (poop), it's your dog's blood basically. Your dog has fleas and probably a significant infestistation. They sell frontline with no script now, you can even buy it at walmart. Do your research before using anything other than what is usuallly prescribed by vets as off brands such as hartz have been known to kill pets.

Is a Cavapoo a shedding or non-shedding animal?

It really depends on each individual Cavapoo, as some will inherit the Poodle's non-shedding coat while others will inherit the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's coat, which sheds heavily.

ALL DOGS SHED! If a hair grows, it will die and fall out. Most dogs have an undercoat that sheds out regularly. However, some dogs have "hair" vs "fur" and do not shed nearly as much. Their coats are more like human hair. A good rule of thumb, the shorter the hair, the shorter the hair folical lifecycle, the more the dog will shed.

What dog breeds do not shed and are quiet and gentle?

All dogs shed, even the "hairless" breeds. As far as low maintenance with grooming, and less shedding than others, some smaller dog breeds (under 30 pounds) to consider would be:

Chinese Crested (hairless) and the Dandie Dinmont Terrier.

You might also want to see if the maintenance fits your lifestyle with the following small breeds:

Affenpinscher, Bedlington Terrier, Bichon Frise, Bolognese, Brussels Griffon, Havanese, Lakeland Terrier, Maltese, Miniature Schnauzer, PBGV (Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen), miniature and toy Poodles, Puli, Shih-Tsu, Welsh Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier.

Is it okay to give a dog flea medication if you just bathed them with flea shampoo?

If you put it on him prior to the bath, not likely. Read the label. Some are water proof, some are not. Give your dog a bath, wait until he's dry and then apply the flea treatment.

I have been told to wait till the next day to put it on after a bath... Apparently, this is because the flea meds are released through the dogs oil glands, and you wash the oil away when you bathe your dog.

I have also noticed that, even though it is water proof, it's not always soap proof... some of them seem to be less effective if you give your dog a bath, say, halfway or so through the month. Someone once suggested "non-detergent" soap, but I have yet to find such a thing... I usually just give him a hose down if he's that dirty, or spot wash him, avoiding the application sites as much as possible.

Can you use a flowbee hair cutter on dogs?

There is actually a product like flowbee just for dogs. The Robocut is reasonably priced. We bought it and did not use it on our dog when we realized that you have to hook it up to a vacuum to get it to work. Our dog is terrified of vacuum's so we never used it. However, our daughter got a dog who was really chill and needed a cut. We pulled out the Robocut. All was going well on the back and then my husband and daughter flipped the dog over to do his abdomen. The cutter sucked the skin up with the hair into the blades. It took out a 50 cent piece size of the whole epidermal layer. He had to have emergency surgery to fix it. Thankfully it did not get the muscle layer and thankfully they weren't under his neck at the time. We will throw this product in the trash in tiny pieces once we have resolved our claim w/ the company. I know it looks like people have good luck with this product if the dog will sit still for it, but when it goes bad, it is really bad. And yes, we read and followed the instructions for the product prior to use.

To improve on this answer...

Robocut is junk I agree. However I have a Samoyed I have been using the flowbee brand regular hair trimmer on for about 5 years now. works great if you give a bath first to get the hair nice and fluffy. the stronger the vacuum the better. I use a rigid shop vac. use trimmer oil on the blades and go to town. the dog seems to like the sucking action of the hair. gives a nice even finish but took me about 4 years to master that. just be sure to clean the flowbee after you are done. also reoil to store and make sure you give a quick bath after you cut the dog also to remove the oil from the blades cutting it. takes 5 seconds. i have definitely gotten my money out of my flowbee that is for sure. just try not to cut to much hair at once and the flowbee will not cut out knots. my .02
