Why does your dog lay down when you walk him?
A dog laying down when you walk him can either be that he is tired, lazy or that he seeks control. You have to "analyze." If he lays down just like he does when he sleeps, naps or something like that, he's tired or lazy. If he looks more tense and constrained or concentrated, he is most likely seeking control.
How do you stop a dog from sleeping under the blanket?
First you must train them not to sleep with you,if he/she is a large dog,I would get a big dog bed put it beside my bed and cover him/her up,and keep doing this until he/she learns,if he/she is a small dog(under 20lbs)I would get him/her a blanket and cover him/her up on the top of your covers and train him/her to stay under his/her own covers.
Are shihpoo inside or outside dogs?
I have got a Shih Tzu and can tell you that they are an indoor dog. Unlike other big dogs, they cannot run fast, can't go in the sea on the beach or can't really go in deep snow because of their small legs. Shih Tzu's have one of the best temperaments of any kind of dog and are great for elderly people.
Can you train a dog not to bark?
Dogs bark. It is not a bad thing. They bark for different reasons and it is never ok to forbid them to bark. That is how they express themselves. The same way human being talk, dogs bark. Its a problem when the dog barks excessively. That's when you have to make him stop and teach him not to do it. I don't have the magic formula, but I control my dog excessive barking by telling her "ENOUGH!". Make sure than when you ask your dog to stop barking, you ask him AFTER he is done barking. When he gets quiet, pet him and give him a treat so he could understand that you like it when he does NOT bark and tht he will get nice reward if he does shut up. Do not EVER scream STOP while she is barking because she will think you are barking with her and will not understand that she has to stop..
How do you teach a dog to play fetch?
As you probably already know Jack Russell Terriers are high energy dogs and are quite stubborn. He should have been trained long ago, but it's not too late. If you go to your vet and ask where there are good training classes or, got to a place like Petcetera they do have training classes there. You are the "boss" of this dog and HE/SHE needs to know it!
You can try what my family does for our dogs.
1. find a toy that the dog has taken a strong liking to.
2. get a friend or family member help you
3. when you see the dog playing with the toy, being taking the toy from your dog then giving it back right away. do this a few times to insure you keep the dogs interest.
4. once you are sure you have the dogs interest take the toy and hand it to your assistant. have him/her stand a few feet away and call the dog. Once the dog response to them instruct them to give the dog the toy.
5. After you assistant gives the dog the toy immediately call the dog to you and take the toy back (give the dog a treat).
6. Repeat process a few more times
DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A COUPLE OF WEEKS:
Once your dog learns to expect these actions you can move on to throwing the ball back and forth with your assistant and the dog will automatically follow the ball. Make sure that every time you or you assistant receive the ball you hand it to the dog and the dog is instructed by you or them to come bringing the ball back to the person who threw it (Make sure to give reward for returning toy to you). Eventually the dog will learn that if it brings the toy back with it he/she will receive some kind of reward. Once you notice the dog automatically returning the toy to you, you should begin to change up the routine a little bit at a time. Adding new commands such as Fetch every time you or your assistant throw the toy and/or changing the distance the dog has to travel is a good way to start. Eventually, your dog will learn what is expected of him/her and you can gradually stop giving the treats and/or having your assistant close by to help you and start just giving the command Fetch when throwing the toy. Your dog should return the toy to you without any outside help. Hope that I explained this well enough for you to understand what I mean {because until today I really never gave thought to how I trained my dogs I just did it}.

The way I taught my dogs to fetch was to take his/ her favorite toy and put peanut butter on it. The dog will soon get the idea that playing fetch is a treat to him/her. If you taught the dog to come then you would have no problem getting him to come back to you . So all you have to do when the dog gets the toy is to yell "come" (nicely) and the dog should come back with the toy.

UCLA most likely does offer a pre-veterinary medicine program. However, you don't have to go through a dedicated pre-vet program to get into vet school. You just have to complete all the required pre-requisite courses for application to vet school.

5. Keep leading, even after the walk
6. Reward your dog after the walk
What does 'take a dog for a walk' mean?
It means to take your dog out to explore, using a leash usually. You can take your dog to trails in the forest, hiking, and if your dog is a really smart trained dog, than by all means go bike riding with him/her
Taking your pet out to walk gives them exercise and it gives you some too! It gives your pet time to socialize, or to just take a break from being cooped up in the house all day. You would probably like to train your dog to walk nicely, staying at pace with you, not pulling or yanking at all. If your dog is aggressive, you should muzzle him/her or go to someplace that people don't go to a lot.
Can a ten week old puppy get walked on a leash?
It's never too early for leash training, but don't plan a long trip the first time out. Puppy will likely be too busy being fascinated by every new thing he sees to be able to cover much ground.
No, it cannot. It cannot speak English or understand a word. It can learn karate if we can speak monkey.
Is a dog's bark louder than a person yelling?
No ten time louder, try not to put your music too loud! Also smaller dogs hear better so it would be louder than bigger dogs for them, as the are used for hunting and they need good senses for that

How long can it take to potty train a puppy?
We use kennel or crate training (with out potty pads) for this and we usually accomplish this in 3 to5 weeks. Night time is the worst since you have to take them out a few times for the first few weeks.
DO NOT USE THE CRATE FOR PUNISHMENT. If through out the night if your dog barks allot, try putting the dog in the crate a few minutes at a time through out the day. Using a reward to get them in helps. We trained our dogs to go in when we said night night using the reward training.
You need to pay close attention to your dog and only let them eat when you say it's time, I believe this works hand in hand. A rule of thumb is for every week old the dog is they should be able to hold it for 1 hour but don't make they try to hold it while training. When you feed or water them give, them about 5 to 15 minutes at first and take them outside. When you see that this is working you can increase the time span.
This all makes a difference to what time of the year it is also, if it's winter and you live in a snowy region and it's a pup they're not going to want to go outside when it's time. Your persistence is the number one factor, if you're not consistent neither will the dog. If this is a family thing and it shold be everyone has to use the same commands.
AnswerIt depends on how persistent and patient YOU are. I have the best luck with only letting my puppies outside to potty for the first 4-5 weeks of training. That way they get the hint that outside is for relieving themselves. Use a potty pad indoors and move it close to the door so you can at least tell if your dog is getting the hint to go to the door and you just missed it. Never, never push their noses in it. This tactic teaches the dog nothing. Look most puppies eat their own poop, do you really think shoving their nose in it will teach them anything new? The only thing they possibly learn is to fear you. If you do catch them beginning to go, yell no loudly and walk towards them. Do not snatch them up in anger, lift them up and say no very strongly, take them to the door and outside. Watch them go out there and take them in when done. Dogs don't understand punishment like we would like them to. As much as we would like them to be people, they are not and can't be expected to learn like children. They must be punished at the time of the infraction, not hours later. They won't remember what they are being punished for. Time, love, and patience it what it takes. And it takes as long as it takes. AnswerIt really depends on your dog and its breed. Dogs such as Labradors can take as little as a couple days or as long as a couple weeks. My Labrador learned in a week.It really depends on how patient the owner is. If you are really patient then it could take 2-7 days. If your not that patient then it could take several weeks. I am really patient and I have a peekapoo puppy and it only took her 2 days.

Well... No not really but it depends on where you live. Some states/provinces require a license. But I don't have a license and I train. My training is not considered a buisness as much as it is a side project.
How do you stop your dog from barking at people on a walk?
when it barks yell at it if it licks shut its toungue in its teeth or u could use a ultrasonic bark control unit that emits a high frequency sound that only your dog can hear. Each dog bark triggers the bark control unit to emit the sound. The dog will stop barking when he/she hears it. Soon the dog will realize that their barking causes the uncomfortable noise and will stop barking. The ultrasonic bark control is not recommended in a house with cats since they are also able to hear the high frequency sound. There are two types of Safe Ultrasonic Bark Controls: Indoor and Outdoor. The Indoor Bark Control unit sits on any flat surface in your house. The Outdoor Bark Control looks like a Birdhouse and can be placed on any outside tree. The device not only looks great for your outdoor decor but an added benefit is controls not only your dog from barking but also your neighbor's barking dog. The Indoor Bark Control unit can be controlled manually or automatically. Manually means you will press the button when you hear your dog bark. Automatic means the device will emit the sound when it picks up the dog bark. The product is manufactured by a reputable company called Petsafe. ---- I found the Petsafe Outdoor Bark Control Birdhouse or Petsafe Indoor Bark Control unit at the following online pet store. Bark controls are great if you are not always home to correct their behavior: http://www.BargainBuyPetSupply.com/outdoor_bark_control.htm
Not exactly. Dogs don't really have conversations or even sentences. If they could speak, it would sound something like, "Food! Food!" or "Play? Play!" Dogs would only blurt out something they see or want.
Can chihuahuas be potty trained?
If your puppy is sleeping in a crate (recommended) it will make the training easier. Take the pup to the box after he eats, wakes up, and anytime you see him circling. If he does make a mistake and soil on the floor, clean it up right away. You can put some of the soiled paper in the box, as the puppy will go in the same spot once he smells the scent.
well chihuahuas can be stubborn about housetraining of any kind. just be consistent -- if u tell ur dog go inside, don't expect it to go outside or not to go other places in the house at first. if you use newspapers NEVER leave newspapers lying around because the dog assumes it is the same
Chihuahuas are VERY smart (don't let anyone tell you any different, these little devils are always plotting something). This means they are NOT easy to train. Stick with it though, just be persistent and consistant. Do not get angry, do not loose your temper. Reward like crazy when the gets things right. Visit http:/www.chihuahualovers.com for more tips on training Chis.
Chihuahuas can be stubborn yes, I'll give you that, But that does not mean that they will be hard to train... it just means that you have to train them on their terms... that you have to figure out what tricks of the trade work with them { it really all depends on the personality of the individual dog.} I have owned 2 of them so far in my lifetime. I have also owned or currently own 1 Lab, 1 Sheperd mix, 1 pomeranian, 1 boxer mix, 1 pit bull mix, 2 American eskimos, and have worked with various other breeds throughout my career.. of all the dogs that I have been responsible for training... the ones that took the least amount of time to train have been the CHI-CHIS... Just be as patient and consisted with them as you would be with any other animal you planned on training...
Kechara
A different answer:Yes Chihuahuas are stubborn the majority of the time, and no you do not train them on their terms...And seeing how each dog is different it really doesn't matter what different kinds of dogs you have worked with (although if you wish to bring handling different breeds into the conversation, I have 5 Chihuahuas, 1 Dachshund, 1 min-pin, 2 large mutts, 1 Australian shepherd...also i have horses, 1 pig, cats, goats...shall i go on?) Ok now, to train your little dog you will most likely want to start with paper training, pick where you will want your litter box and put papers on the ground there...once the dog starts going on the papers, put the box down with papers in it, then eventually you can mix shredded newspaper with doggie litter, and then just doggie litter...good luck training! Also, Chihuahuas can be easily wounded by harsh words, never work on training you dog if you are upset over something, also praise them like crazy when they do what they're supposed to! Treats, bell rubs, ear scratches, whatever makes your dog happy :)All dogs are able to bite (unless they are missing part of there jaw or something) however you must be sure to gentle with a dog and never to sneak up on from behind. or to touch it while it is eating. If you follow all these rules you have a good chance of not being bitten. Also be sure to make sure the dog is tame and gentle.
I have a mother dog (brown 3 years old) ans she doesn't bite, a few month ago she had 7 babies an none of them bite, we only kept one and he still doesn't bite.
no, not all dogs will bite, many are friendly.
This is a training issue. All dogs, barring physical abnormalities, can and will byte. I handle "Hard / War" dogs (30+ years) and if you accustom them as pups to being approached from behind, petted, spoken too, etc. even while eating the answer is NO, they don't byte you, although there is always the occasional exception. If they nip, the most common error is not correcting any of that sort of issue as a pup (it can be done when they're adults but you'll probably need the help of an experienced trainer to manage it.)
It's really a handler/owner issue rather than something innate with dogs. Several of mine are not trained to hold (like K9s) but but as protection dogs -- they will do irreparable damage. Still, the neighborhood kids pet them while the dogs are eating, pull their ears, tail, try and ride them (which the dogs don't really appreciate) but all without any incident in three decades. So I suppose the answer is: "Well bred, clear headed, well trained, they will take care of you and they don't byte unless you're threatened, and then they're concerned with the threat, not you."
