•The maximum age for bottlenose dolphins is between 40 and 50 years. The average a dolphin can get (the life expectancy) can be calculated from the ASR Annual Survival Rate (the percentage of animals alive at a certain point, that is still alive one year later). For the dolphin population in Sarasota Bay, the ASR has been measured to be about 0.961. This yields a life expectancy of about 25 years.

How large can a whale get?

Killer whales are not whales, they are Orca's, the largest members of the dolphin family.Females (cows): average 16-20' and 4000-8000 lbs (record:28' and 16,500 lbs)Males (bulls): average 20-24' and 8000-12,000 lbs (record: 32' and 22,000 lbs)

The male dorsal fin averages 6' tall.

The orca is the fastest marine mammal able to swim 35 mph.

A Killer whale weighs up to 1000 stone which is 14000 pounds, they are members of the dolphin family and their average length is 26-32ft

Males typically range from 6-8m (19-26 ft). They can weigh up to 6 tonnes.

Females are smaller, generally ranging from 5-7m (16-23 ft) and they may weigh from 4 to 5 tonnes.

The largest Killer Whale ever recorded was a male off the coast of Japan, measuring 9.8 m (32 ft) and weighed over 8 tonnes(17,636 lb).

Calves at birth weigh about 180 kg (350-500 lb) and are about 2.4 m long (6-8 ft).

The Killer whale's large size and strength make them among the fastest marine mammals, often reaching speeds in excess of 56 km/h (35 mph). The males dorsal fin is about double the size of the females.

Can dolphins survive in salt water?

Dolphins do not necessarily need salt water. Most species of dolphins live in salt water (although they do not drink the water because it is far too salty). Freshwater dolphins, also called river dolphins, usually live in fresh water, with the exception of the La Plata dolphin. As noted, dolphins do not drink salt water because synthesizing the salt water would cause water loss as opposed to water gain (and also why humans should not drink sea water either). Rather, dolphins get their water through the metabolism of their food, much like Australian Desert mice.

How do dolphins talk?

Dolphins talk to each other by using clicks and whistles. Some people use click languages. Some people use whistle languages. No group of people speak a language consisting of both clicks and whistles and no spoken words. Perhaps if someone created one it would become possible to talk to dolphins.

A dolphin is covered with a very thick skin, over 10 times the thickness of land animals. This skin is constantly flaking off and being replaced by new skin, in fact it is being replaced as quickly as every two hours. This helps keep the dolphin swimming quickly.

Can dolphins be camouflage?

Yes. Their camouflage is they blend in to the ocean, what I mean is if you are under a dolphin and look up, it will be hard to spot because of its white under belly. If you look at it from the top you will see its blue top side and it will blend into the ocean.

Do dolphins eat plants or meat?

Dolphins are meat eaters, because they eat fish and squid. They can eat up to 40 pounds a day. They need this much food to keep up their energy, because they can swim up to 70 miles a day. Just a fact: When they sleep, they shut off half of their brain so they can be alert of any enemy's. The brain that is not shut off, also needs to make sure the dolphin doesn't drown in the water. This is because dolphins are conscience breathers, meaning they have to remember to breath, unlike us.

Are dolphins nocturnal?

they are diurnal because they are never spotted during the night. they always apear at the surface during the day not the night. eventhoug people say that they are nocturnal i think that they are diurnal. if you think that you are a smart person please think. when have you ever seen a picture of a killer whale are any whale at night? think and dont be and idiot

WELLLL.. i beg to differ..

I know for a fact that blue whales do not sleep. This is because if they did, then they would drown. Think about it, how to whales breath? through their blowholes. How do they breath if they are sleeping? They don't. That's why most whales, it not all, are neither nocturnal or diurnal, because they dont sleep. Also, whales dont have involuntary breathing, they have to think about breathing and they have to make sure that they actually breath every 30 minutes or so. They do, however, take little napes now and then, but other than that, they get their energy from their food. Now it's time for you to think and stop being an idiot because CLEARLY most of the whales would be dead if they slept. If you dont believe me, then look up 'do whales sleep', and you'll find that they either dont sleep, or half of their brain sleeps at a time, like dolphins.
