Although some sources ascribe him a middle initial of "A," the fact is he had no middle name.

Macarthur was a US Army General- while he did teach English at the Point ( West Point, USMA) he was not generally thought of ( no pun intended) as a writer. I am not aware of any fiction by Macarthur. Some of his exploits in the War ( world War II, pacific theater) were wildly exaggerated by the Media- such as the phrase Macarthur"s Bombers- Macarthur was never an Air Corps officer ( a the time the Air Force was part of the Army) =nor was he a Marine- though involved in many amphibious operations.

Only one man in the world could equal "Dug-Out Doug", and that was the President of the United States of America...President Truman had to relieve him of command during the Korean War (1950-1953). Some say, that there had been a "power match" between the two.

Actually, the general was retired from the US military shortly before the attack by the Japanese and was serving as a "field marshal" heading up the Philippine army. When he was reactivated by the US Military, he retained his FM cap with its fancy embroidery of the bill and just changed out the main emblem.

During the early stages of the Korean War, General of the Army Douglas MacArthur was a proponent of liberating the entire Korean Peninsula from communist influence. President Truman and Secretary of State Dean Acheson felt that if this plan was followed it would cause the Communist Chinese to enter the war and expand it beyond acceptable limits.

Following the Inchon landing, General MacArthur's United Nations troops pushed the North Koreans north to the Yalu River, the border between North Korea and China. General MacArthur advocated attacking Chinese forces, but was denied this action by President Truman and Secretary Acheson. General MacArthur then began to publicly disagree with his Commander in Chief and to seek to weaken him politically with the support of U.S. Senators, including Joe McCarthy.

He was an important US military leader during World War 2. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

The United States was losing public support for the Korean war so Truman and his advisors decided to work for a negotiated peace. MacArthur disagreed. The general believed that America's future lay in Asia, not Europe. In an inflammatory letter to the House minority leader, Republican Joseph J. Martin, he denounced the Korean stalemate, declaring "There is no substitute for victory". His strategy backfired and on April 11 Truman relieved MacArthur of his command, accusing him of insubordination.

The proper quotation was actually "People of the Philippines: I have returned." General MacArthur said this when the US landed on Leyte, Philippines in World War II.
