Why do you see dragonflies after a loved ones death?
I can't answer why, except for the symbolic journey of the dragonfly from the bottom of the pond and it's transformation into another world where they are not able to return to the old world. I never knew the connection to death and dragonflies, despite my work with grieving people for twenty years. After my brother died I had so many experiences with dragonflies. Never before in my life can I recall a single dragonfly interaction until after my brother died. I was at a Grief Conference and I saw a vendor selling dragonfly things. I asked what the connection was and she told me the story above. I told her all my experiences with dragonflies over the past year and she tells me she hears stories like mine all the time. I realized it was my brother reaching out to me knowing how much I was struggling with losing him. As much as I miss my brother all of those dragonfly encounters did give comfort knowing he is still with me. On the one year anniversary of my brother's death I was in a hotel room on Time Square in NY eight stories up and I sat at the window looking out over the busy street below thinking about my brother and I saw something out of the corner of my eye and sure enough it was a dragonfly on the side of the building. It stayed just long enough for me to see it and flew away. I am a believer.
