If you have a DWI on your record when can you apply for a CDL license?
When you get a DUI, DWI, or open container, there's typically a license suspension period which follows afterwards. Once this suspension period is over, and you've met all the conditions for reinstatement of your license (including payment of reinstatement fees), you can get a CDL 30 days later (you must hold a valid DL in your state of residence for at least 30 days before that state can issue you a CDL). However, if you don't have at least five years between your DUI/DWAI/open container conviction and the time you're trying to find a CDL job, you're only wasting your time and money - nobody will hire you for any driving job, least of all, a CDL driving job.

Can you get a gun permit with a DUI felony?
The basic answer is no. A felony of any kind precludes you from legally owning a gun, therefore, no state will issue a gun permit to a felon.
This statement is untrue.
Oh. I wasn't aware of that. Federal law 18 U.S.C. § 922 states the following: "...prohibits the shipment, transportation, receipt, or possession in or affecting interstate commerce of a firearm by one who: has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence; has been convicted of a felony, or any other crime, punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year."
The law does not differentiate between a DUI felony and any other felony. A DUI will not automatically preclude you from owning a gun or obtaining a permit in most states, however, A felony DUI will, because it is a felony. The only exception to that is a felon who has had his or her rights restored. That is not particularly easy to do, and judges normally only restore some rights, not necessarily all.
I have a Felony DWI that is 19 years old, I have had ALL of my rights restored without ANY firearm restrictions, also I was placed into the FBI'S VAF. I also hold a NYS CCW permit as well. Have a great night! :)
I didn't say it never happened. I implied that it wasn't that common. I know a whole bunch of people that were denied when trying to restore their rights.
How much is a reasonable fine for a DUI?
It depends on how high your blood/alcohol level is and if it is low you can get 3 demerit points and an $500-$800 fine. If your b/a level is over 1.5 or 2 you can go to jail but either way don't do it
The key to beating a DUI charge is understanding how the criminal justice system works. When the police charge you with DUI, they have to prove the charge in a court of law. They must prove that you were driving the vehicle while your blood alcohol content was over the legal limit. To determine your blood alcohol limit, they will subject you to a breath test or a blood test. There are certain procedures the police officers have to following when making a DUI stop and when arresting a person for DUI. The DUI check post must follow the requirements laid down by the Supreme Court. In case of a DUI stop, the officer must have reasonable cause to subject you to a DUI test. If the police officer did not follow the procedures or the DUI check post or stop itself was illegal, the charges against you will be dropped. You can also challenge the results on the breath or the blood tests. If you create doubts about the accuracy of the test results, the charges can be dropped.

Can you teach English abroad if you have a DWI on your record?
I'm researching this myself. I contacted the Japanese consulate and they are a definite NO. It must be completely expunged (which is impossible in US now, it's on record for life and thus with the FBI for consulates checking abroad). I know Japan is a major employer for teaching English, but I'm trying to find other countries. Post here if you find any that will take you on a work visa, b/c I don't know either. You must ask the actual consulate of that country to be sure. I know you can't even visit Canada with a DWI (and vice versa for the US from Canada). It sucks.
Are DUIs considered felony in Florida?
A DUI in Florida is a misdemeanor up until the 3rd or subsequent offense within ten years, at which point it becomes a 3rd degree felony.
A case may be "closed" in several ways. It can be adjudicated or dismissed with or without prejudice. A case closed by way of a dismissal might be refiled or restored to active status under the right circumstances. Cases are "adjudicated" when a decision has been rendered on the merits of the case, such as after a trial. Cases are dismissed usually because of some procedural matter, like failing to provide discovery on time. Confusion is caused in this area because even judges and lawyers tend to throw the word "dismissed" around like it meant adjudicated almost to the point where the two are no longer distinguishable for any practical purpose.

Be careful of the excluded driver option, however. With an excluded driver endorsement, there is NEVER any coverage for the excluded driver -- EVER. Sounds pretty obvious until that person gets behind the wheel and wipes out a busload of nuns. Interestingly, people tend to forget all about being an excluded driver under those circumstances.
