Catholics have an obligation to celebrate Easter and to attend church. Easter Sunday (sometimes know as Resurrection Sunday) is considered the holiest day or the Catholic Church.

It is quite common for families to gather together and celebrate together, especially over a meal. This is effectively a family-centered party!

After you've met your obligations to God, there is nothing stopping a Catholic person from having or attending a party. There are many ways to show your love for God and man and in some cases a party is appropriate. However, you should consider the theme and nature of the party before making your decision.

Can you become a Catholic if baptized in another christian church without completing the RICA classes and waiting until Easter or do you have to be baptized in the Catholic Church?

Yes and no... Yes, even if you are baptized in another Christian Church you must go through RCIA or religious instruction of some sorts... one of the major reasons is that by becoming Catholic you are participating in sacraments which are a covenant between you and the Lord. They are not to be entered into lightly. At Easter you would receive three sacraments at once, First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. You would not be rebaptized.

That being said, you can join your Catholic Church and "be" Catholic while you are going through the process of learning and educating yourself about the sacraments the same way children who are baptized Catholic and are not old enough to take Communion or Reconcilation or to be Confirmed "are" Catholic. (Not that I'm saying you're a child, please don't misunderstand).

Take heart! We all had to do the same learning you'll do, only it took me 10 years of Catholic school to make all my Sacraments.

Why was water a symbol of Easter?

water is a modified symbol of the wine shown in the bible that represents Christs blood that he shed for the atonement as shown in Matthew 26:27-28 "And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." (out of the king James version) it was because of Christ's sacrifice for us that led ultimately to His resurrection that allows all of us to live again with Him.

How do people celebrate Christmas in Guatemala?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Christmas in Guatemala, as in every catholic country, is very special. We do celebrate Christmas eve and Christmas day (December 24th and 25th). Usually the night of the 24th we gather in families to have a nice dinner and at midnight everyone burns fireworks to conmemorate the birth of baby Jesus. For kids Santa comes and gives them presents (same as in the US) but kids open their presents at midnight.

On the 25th, we gather again with family to eat lunch (in some houses they eat turkey, in others pork) and everybody celebrates the birth of baby Jesus with fireworks at noon and at 6pm.

As in the US, that day a lot of movies are premiered so going to the cinemas is very popular.

For New Years it depends on the place of destination. The city is left almost empty because most people like to go away for the holiday. Antigua Guatemala celebrates new years with a big party in the central park and in the Santa Catarina Arch, where the countdown for the new years is done. They have there live music, people are celebrating on the streets, and all of the bars are open until after hours.

The beaches are also full of people and there are a lot of parties that go until dawn.

Lake Atitlan is another popular destination for new years.

In contrary to other latin American countries, we don't have a holiday on January 6th, still small family gatherings are done. This date is a big deal in neighboring Mexico.

If you want specific information about your destination please tell me where exactly are you spending Christmas and new years and I can find out what will be going on on your destination. Have a great trip!
