I'm in 6th grade and we just had a test on this kind of stuff. The answer to this question would have to parasitism. My teacher said that its like a tape worm and a human. The tape worm is being benefited by the human and the human at the same time is being affected.

WOW I have the same question in my grade 7 unit A chapter 3.1 question page. Sorry don't know the answer.

Sri Lanka is a South Asian country with only one ecosystem, which is the tropical rainforest ecosystem. The entire island is covered in lush rainforests, providing a diverse habitat for a wide array of flora and fauna.

It was once thought that the relationship between the oxpecker and hippopotamus was mutualistic. However, new evidence points to a semi-parasitic relationship. The oxpecker cleans the hippopotamus, but also opens up wounds so that the will become infected with flies, creating more food for the oxpecker.

Mosquitoes are important in the ecosystems as they are an important food source for organisms such as tree frogs, lizards, snakes, fish, birds, bats and arthropods including dragonflies and spiders. The mosquito larvae are also important food for fish and other predatory aquatic organisms.

The only common component between ALL living things and ALL nonliving things is atoms. An element is made up of one type of atom, and a living organism is made up of many, many different types of atoms.

The absence of ostriches in an ecosystem could disrupt the balance of that ecosystem. Ostriches play a role in controlling vegetation and insect populations through their feeding habits. Their absence could impact other species that depend on these resources for survival.

Because it acts in conjunction with the food chain, for example there is the sun, helps plants to photosynthesize and create food, then a grasshopper comes and eats the plant, then a bird eats the grasshopper, then a human shoots the bird and eats it. That is considered a food chain, and if one of those links disappears it would result in a food shortage for one of those species, thy would then die and so on and so forth.

Energy is lost as heat through respiration, metabolism, and waste production as it moves up the food chain. Each trophic level can only convert about 10% of the energy it receives into biomass that is available to the next trophic level, resulting in an overall inefficiency in energy transfer.

Abiotic factor is any non-living thing that makes up an ecosystem.

Ex. A Rock and wind

Biotic and abiotic factors are not interrelated. If one factor is changed or removed, it impacts the availability of other resources within the system.

This process may be defined as biomass energy transfer. The main elements NEEDED for energy transfer is (1) Carbon, (2) H2O, and (3) bacteria. Everything else in this process can be providing from the decomposition process itself.

If the ochre sea star were removed from the ecosystem, shellfish populations could increase significantly. Ochre sea stars are predators of shellfish, and without them, shellfish could thrive unchecked, leading to potential overgrazing of algae and other organisms in the ecosystem. This could disrupt the balance of the ecosystem and impact other species dependent on these resources.

The role of an organism in the ecosystem is called its ecological niche. It refers to how an organism fits into its environment, including its interactions with other organisms and the physical environment. This niche includes the organism's feeding habits, behavior, and its role in nutrient cycling.
