Who founded Electronic Arts Corporation?
Trip Hawkins founded Electronic Arts on May 28, 1982. He began working on the foundations of the company a decade earlier and decided in the summer of 1975 that he would formally incorporate in 1982 because he needed time to first help sell more computers into homes. While he worked at Apple from 1978 to 1982 he developed the foundational ideas of the company including the treatment of developers as artists and his idea to bring many Hollywood business principles to computer software for the first time. Hawkins met privately with famous venture capitalist Don Valentine in February of 1982 and, encouraged, he left Apple for good in April and began working out of his home office before taking some space in Valentine's office in August, when Hawkins hired his first employees. He personally funded 100% of the company's expenses for most of 1982 and loaned his first employees money so that they could buy the stock he offered them to join his company.

Why is Electronic Arts discontinuing service for their game Earth And Beyond?
Though Electronic Arts made no official statement on the reason for the closing down of its service, critics have pointed at the falling number of subscribers as the cause.
EA eventually announced in March 2004 that Earth & Beyond was to be discontinued it officially shut down on September 22, 2004.

John Riccitiello is Chief Executive Officer of Electronic Arts, the world's leading developer and publisher of interactive entertainment.
Mr. Riccitiello originally joined EA in October 1997 as President and Chief Operating Officer. He was President during a period of dynamic growth - with his help EA grew market share, diversified our product portfolio and strengthened our international business. He left the company in 2004 to become a founding partner and managing director of Elevation Partners, a private equity partnership focused on the media and entertainment sector. In addition to his responsibilities as a Managing Director at Elevation, he also served as the Chairman and CEO of VG Holdings (consisting of BioWare and Pandemic Studios, both leading developers in the video game business). He also served on the Board of Directors of Forbes Media LLC. He returned to EA as CEO in April of 2007.
Prior to joining Electronic Arts, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the worldwide bakery division at Sara Lee Corporation. He also served as President and CEO of Wilson Sporting Goods Co. and held executive positions at Haagen-Dazs, PepsiCo, Inc. and The Clorox Company. Mr. Riccitiello holds a Bachelors of Science degree from University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Riccitiello lives with his wife and children in the San Francisco Bay Area.
