The final results of this action are mixed, both from the feeling that now, they are, in a way, in control over their own pain, another is that they are punnishing themselves, giving themselves up to suffering because they see themselves unfit to live without it. Probably one of the most important ones, if you ask an "emo" person WHY they cut, they will usually be at a loss for words except the vague statement that it makes them feel better. This is usually because when they cut, their body releases lots of complex hormones and chemical enzymes, giving them a sensation of feeling good, though the consequential pain certainly does not. This combination of the body's functions and the psychological need to punish themselves physically, "emos" are able to cope with their insecurities on their own.

Well not exactly ^_^ Many people choose to be emo because some people follow the trends and others just have something depressing going on in there life. I find most 'emos' and 'scenes' to be posers. I go by being myself. And they choose being depressed because that what makes them 'emo' or whatever they feel like they have pain in there life. I admit I was 'emo' at 13 (I just turned 15) and I was for no reason because the guy I liked, excuse me loved wanted someone else besides me and I felt dead inside and I wanted to run away and bleed. (Yea dark). But the point being is some choose some don't.
