Euthanasia

Euthanasia involves deliberately ending the life of an individual suffering from a terminal illness or an incurable condition painlessly by lethal injection or the suspension of extraordinary medical treatment. Active euthanasia is illegal in most jurisdictions, while passive euthanasia, or the withholding of some life support systems, has legal standing in some jurisdictions. Questions about voluntary or involuntary euthanasia, assisted suicide, and the "right to die" are asked and answered here.

Do you agree that euthanasia should be allowed for people who have no quality of life?

Absolutely positively not, not because it is illegal in most states but because it is very dangerous. People have been euthanized in the U.S. because doctors have decided that they had a bad quality of life. The reason for the bad quality of life is because the medical staff may have put them into a severe drug coma and the patient was in a vegetative state because of that means that medical staff who overdose patients with deadly sedatives can say the person has no quality of life when in reality the staff overdosed the patient instead. That makes it easy for medical staff to commit murder. There are psychopaths in every field. Not every medical staff cares about saving a life, like people would like to believe. Some medical staff believe in murder instead for whatever the reason. Euthanasia that is accepted will make it too easy for medical staff to get away with murder. Instead, all euthanasia should be illegal and not accepted everywhere in the United States and any medical staff who does euthanize should be put in prison for life.

Is euthanasia moral for you?

This is a very big topic, if it's a personal question rather than a research one then i really suggest you speak to family and friends. I can only offer my personal opinions as its a moral discussion not a scientific one.

I believe it's a persons own prerogative, they should be allowed to make their own free choices and if this includes death then why should we stop them? At the end of the day one persons life is only important to their peers and if they are mutually confident this is the best outcome of somebody suffering in pain or living a futile vegetative existence then why would we spend money and time keeping them alive?

If writing about this, your best using your own opinions, expressing your feelings here, many religions disagree with this and class it alongside abortion and murder... I think religion is ridiculous... So it's all a matter of opinion.

Who are some famous people who have been euthanized?

King George V of England was euthanized by his doctor by lethal injection of cocaine and morphine so that the announcement of the king's death should appear in The Times rather than a less respectable newspaper later in the day.

Is euthanasia is morally permissible?

The Morality of euthanasia depends on which side of the fence you are standing on. The argument is religious and political above all. for example the same people that say helping a person in suffering from a terminal disease voluntarily end their life is not ethical say that dropping napalm on the homes of village children and their parents is because they are under the power of a group whose politics they don't like.

Where in the world can you legally die?

A person can die anywhere, given the right circumstances. However, if you refer to suicide, assisted suicide, or euthanasia, people will do their best to stop you no matter what you want. Suicide was illegal in the US until lawmakers overturned the law in order to get attempted suicides to come forth for treatment. The Netherlands support full-fledged euthanasia, meaning the doctor can end the life of (kill) the patient. Switzerland does not punish euthanasia or assisted suicide. The states of Oregon, Washington, and Montana have legalized assisted suicide.

What does euthanasia do?

Humans

It more-or-less painlessly ends the life of someone who is either terminally ill or in chronic pain or debility. In its modern form, it is sometimes termed "death with dignity" but may be legally classified as suicide, or homicide, when done outside professional medical practice.

Animals

Animals are euthanized (usually by drug sedation) when they are either critically or irreparably injured, or for stray animals, when there is no viable option to care for them. Euthanasia is common for severely injured pets because of the low probabilty of survival for any extended period, which would cause unnecessary suffering.

In early veterinary practice, there were several cases where attempted "euthanasia" by over-sedation failed, but resulted in the survival and recovery of the animal, once the stress of its injury was lessened. In humans, the analogous condition has become a deliberately-induced coma.

Is it painful to die from carbon monoxide poisoning?

No, obviously not as long the CO is not produced with noxious other gases such as in car exhaust. That's why it's called a "silent killer" many victims die unknowingly in their sleep. If there were pain or sensation at all, it wouldn't be a source of accidental death.

What is the greatest happiness principle in reference to euthanasia?

The greatest happiness principle states that the greatest amount of pleasure should be given to the greatest number of people thereby maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain. On this principle, one could argue that euthanizing someone who is in great pain would be okay because it would be minimizing their pain.
