The largest effect of a reduction in bird populations is the increase in insect populations. Insect populations grow if there are fewer birds around to eat them.

The Stone Age is divided into two parts, and all of it is prehistoric. The older part is the Paleolithic, which started when the earliest humans began using stone tools, and the later part is the Neolithic, which started when humans began to farm, sometime after 10,000 years ago. The start of the Neolithic depends on where you are referring to, because people began farming at different times in different parts of the world. Assuming you are referring to the Paleolithic, humans in Europe and Asia hunted animals such as mammoths, steppe wisent (the European equivalent of bison), horses, deer, etc. In the Americas, the people would have hunted mammoths, mastodons, camels, deer, horses, etc. These would have been used primarily for food, but the bones could have been used for toolmaking, the tendons could have been used like a tough fiber for tying things together, and the hides could have been used for warm clothing and to make portable shelters. In Africa, animals hunted by Paleolithic people probably included antelope, gazelle, wildebeest, etc.

The emu is neither extinct, not in any danger of becoming extinct. Its status is "secure".

However, there were several varieties of emus prior to European settlement. The Tasmanian emu, King Island emu and Kangaroo Island emus are now extinct.

If a local plant was to become extinct, there would be lots of problems. Virtually all plants are part of the ecosystem, so if one plant disappeared, the animals that ate that plant would also likely disappear.

The eskimo Curlew is probably although not confirmed to be extinct. According to Thomas et al, "Can intrinsic factors explain population declines in North American breeding shorebirds? A comparative analysis," in Animal Conservation Volume 9 Issue 3, Pages 252 - 258, its decline is probably due to large-scale habitat change. The conversion of upland areas (along with suppression of fire) into agriculture is one of the main reasons for the extinction of the Eskimo curlew Numenius borealis, a continental migrant whose numbers plummeted during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Mammoths became extinct in the last Ice Age (10.000 B.C). A combination of severe climatic changes with over hunting resulted in their extinction.
