Pretty simple. head to the East side of the map, where it's easier to survive. Once you're on the east side, go north until you can get to Freeside, then further into New Vegas. If you don't, and just head straight to New Vegas, you'll need to kill more than a few Deathclaws, which at lower levels is suicide. You can go into the Freeside casino and with large luck (8+) to win large amounts of caps, to purchase better weapons and gear to further help you in the city. Remember that 2000 caps are required to enter the strip, so that the "poor folk" don't come in a crowd the place up.

You need to recruit 'arcade gannon' as a companion, he is found at the 'ol mormon fort' in freeside. After you do this you must take him to certain to certain points in the game which will remind him of his days in the enclave. Eg the crashed vertibird, reppconn headquarters. Note that when you take him there he will make a comment and open a dialogue conversation. Every time you get him to do this you earn a trust point , and you need 5 trust points for him to trust you and offer you the needed quest 'for aund lang syne'. Other places to earn points are taking him to dr Thomas hildern at camp mccaran. After simply saying hello to hildern then good bye , Arcade Gannon will open another dialogue conversation. Another place is Ceasers fort , soon as you enter the fort he will ask why we are here, replying with lets just here him out will earn you a point. After completing the quest 'The white wash' , if you blamed the death of corporal white on the Scorpion gang , you will get another trust point. Lastly make a good impression on the followers of the apocolypse by doing tasks and he will trust you enough to give you his side quest 'for auld Lang syne' and you can take it from there :)

Play through the game until you get the BB gun. After receiving it, do not shoot the targets. Open the console menu and type "coc MegatonPlaza", without the quotes. This will teleport you outside the Vault, and into Megaton. Bear in mind that this will make the game essentially unplayable, without using the console to set quests as begun. To fix some of these glitches, find and enter Vault 112, beginning the "Tranquility Lane" quest. This method does have some of it's own glitches, however.

Another idea is to type "setPCyoung 1", again without the quotes, into the console menu. However, I haven't yet tested this.

If you mean in the memorial then the water becomes bad to drink and damage the lone wanderer and the creatures of the wasteland and the so called "Aqua pura" (clean water passed out by the brother hood of steel) Becomes bad to drink as well

Enter the console command screen

Type "setessential" (without quotation marks) then leave a space, and input the companion's base id (which can be found easily on the fallout wiki). Then leave another space and put a 0 for nonessential or a 1 for essential. This command can be used on many NPCs besides companions.
