The only way to get out of that situation is if it autosaved and if it didn't I don't believe there are any other way's. I have had it happen to me plenty of times and that way and just getting lucky twenty tries later are the only things that have worked.

Enter the McCarran Airfield, go through the terminal building, use the second floor exit to reach a domed room, head to the other side to the door. You're now in the quartermaster's room, by speaking to him (you may need barter or speech skills) you can get a mission to make a deal with the Gun Runners. He'll give you This Machine as a reward if you complete it, or if you turn him in to Lieutenant Boyd, you get it from her instead.

It is at the northwest of Canterbury Commons. There's a trail to follow, so it would be easy to find it. You can also get a marker on your map if you have The Superhuman Gambit quest (which you can get from Canterbury Commons).

even with the dlc patch up it still works fine, i heard recently that the newest patch would remove it but after downloading the patch i tested it and even then it still works.. so the glitch is still up and running.

Think of it this way. If you blow up megaton you lose karma and cant help Moria finish her report. But you get more caps and a better room. If you don't blow up megaton and instead tell Lucas Sims (the sheriff) you can go with I'm to kill Mr.Burke and get some more weapons. Plus you gain karma. Then when you disarm the bomb you get less money but you can help Moria finish her report and get plenty rewards that way. Both ways have their ups and downs but I think you shouldn't blow it up, the go to Tenpenny tower and kill Allistair Mr.Tenpenny and gain some karma. -Charon can be contracted by talking to Greta, in the underword and buying his contract. (You can receive Charon's contract for free by killing Greta for Ahzrukhal.) He will join you regardless of your Karma.
-Clover can be bought from Eulogy Jones in Paradise Falls if oyu have Bad or Very Bad Karma.
-Jericho can be recruited in megaton if you have Bad or Very Bad Karma.
-Sergeant RL-3 can be bought form Tinker Joe if you have Neutral Karma.
-Butch DeLoria can be recruited if you have Neutral Karma (and completed the quest Trouble on the homefront by destroying the Vaukt 101's air filters) in Rivet City at the Muddy Rudder.
-Star Paladin Cross is in Citadel and can be recruited if you have Good or Very Good Karma.
-Fawkes is found in front of The Underworld after the quest Finding the Garden of Eden and willl join you if you have Good or Very Good Karma (he can also be recruited directly after exiting Raven Rock in the quest The American Dream).
