Don't trust flat rates. Get a quote or quotes from installers that have seen your job. Flat rates do not exist as each job has different requirements. I would be cautious of anyone who gives a flat rate.

Tiles come in a variety of sizes. With the tile size of 18 x 18 the amount would be 39 tiles. The recommended amount that you should have for this job would probably be 40 to 45 to consider that problems may occur during installation. That would be up to the individual. Also keep the Style and Lot# of your tile for future reference.

That depends entirely on what the finished floor is going to made of. If it's 'click' laminate then wavy thin foam sheet is best. If good quality lino then thin plywood is best , etc.

The strip is called a "transition or molding". You will need one called a "T-moulding", which from the end looks like a T. This will allow a smooth transition between the 2 floors.

The amount of BTU's per square foot varies. The BTU's per ft2 in my area is 30-35. In your area there might be more or less.

For reference sake... Btu's are not used in Metric settings, Joules are used.

The first thing you want to do is be sure that the original tile is secure and even. If it is loose, or uneven the new tile may pop out or crack under normal wear and tear. If it is uneven or unsecure you can lay a sub-floor to give the new tile a even base.

It will vary a bit depending on age of the building. Old rough sawn are 2x12, new ones are 1 1/2 by 11 1/2 with 1/8 inch variation either way on the width.

Assuming that you mean 20" x 20" (inch) tiles.

600 (square feet) x 144 (square inches in a foot) = 86400 square inches

1 tile = 400 square inches. (20 x 20)

86400 / 400 = 216 tiles.

This of course, assumes a square surface, which houses rarely are. ;)

Two and Four are both common denominators of Four and Eight, therefore either of these can be used. You would need only two 4ft square tiles or eight 2ft square tiles to cover the 4ft x 8ft floor.

Multiply the length of one wall by the height to give you the square footage of that one wall. Then repeat for all other walls in the room and add up the total.

Obtain a tube of seam sealer from a flooring supply company. Thereafter, whenever you slice the floor, gently clean and dry the area. Use a small amount of the seam sealer to glue down the slice, or to fill in the gap. It will become invisible since no dirt can get into the spot. Don't walk over it for a good 24 hours and it should be good for a long time.

Not very thick. Many building codes (perhaps most) allow 3/4 inch waferboard or 5'8 inch plywood as the structural subfloor over 16" O.C. joists.

This is fine for normal sized floors with carpet or vinyl overlay, but is insufficient for very large floors or floors to be finished in ceramic, slate or porcelain tiles.

I have a quantity of these white tiles taken from a 1909 house in Wales. They measure 17.25 inches X 12 inches.
