Can carpet be placed over existing linoleum?
Yes provided the linoleum is still sound (no large sections missing, well adhered to the floor, etc)
Can you use acetone to clean tile floors and grout?
Probably not the best thing to use for several resons. 1. Acetone is highly flammable. 2. Acetone will dissolve the glue holding the tile to floor. 3. It's fumes are noxious 4. It is easily absorbed into the body through the skin.
How long will it take to strip and wax 18000 square feett of tile floor?
You have to break this prjoect up into 3 areasL strip, finish and dry time.
Assume that you are only going to strip 1000sq. ft per hour. This includes the actual stripping, wet vacuuming and rinsing, also, you've got to factor in scrapping (edging) and going back over any spot you might miss. If you're taking on a job that may have been potched by other people or neglected for a long time you may not even get 1000 sq feet done per hour. Assume for instance that you've been asked to do a floor that never got stripped but rather just scrubbed and recoated, for seveal years. You could be looking at 5, 8, 10 layers of finish in the floor. Assess jobs beforehand so that you can price them correctly.
Then, laying the finish, assume that you will apply finish at a rate of 8000 - 10,000 sq feet an hour, or course, this number will go down if you have to travel to multiple rooms, have to work in tight spaces, etc...
Then assume 45 minutes drying time per coat of finish. This figure come double or triple if you are work in an area that does not have good ventilation or excessive humidity.
So, the long answer is that no two jobs are the same and to apply a standard per square footage price to floor work is risky and can cause you to cut corners to make the numbers work or it you're like me and care about the finished product you can lose money. Unless you are familiar with the floors in question and now how they have been maintained it may be best to agree to an hourly rate for the first job and then a per square footage charge thereafter.

If a rectangle measures 16 inches by 1 foot what is the area?
Since 16 inches is really 1.333... feet, then since the area of a rectangle is LxW
L=1.3333 and W=1
1.33333 x 1 = 1.333333 ft2
or if by inches, then 1 foot is 12 inches
L=16 and W=12
16 x 12 = 192 in2 you need to make it more simple
You can hire someone to do an independent evaluation of your carpet.
If it was improperly installed, the only option maybe legal.
If the problem is matting/staining/fiber loss then you could try and deal with the carpet mill yourself. The problem with this is, if this carpet is more then a year old, they will have to have all your documented professional cleaning receipts required under most warranties.
how many boxes of wood flooring would i need if there are 19.72 sq feet in a box to cover 640 sq feet of an area?
Can you install a solid wood floor over an existing wood floor?
Absolutely, but you have to be aware that it will raise your floor level and you might have a problem with door jambs and levels of flooring from one from room to another.
You have to do a project and you are looking for flooring 4 a basement what should you consider?
I would recommend commercial grade vinyl such as Amtico. It is nothing like the vinyl from a roll so give it a chance be before crossing it off the list. It is very easy to clean. extremely durable and will survive a flood. It is laid in pieces (either planks or tile depending which design you choose) and glued down.
Other choices that come into play if you are not concerned about flooding are: engineered flooring, carpet, porcelain tile and cork. I would stay away from the cork if you have young children.
How do you seal prefinished hardwood floors?
You don't need to seal prefinished flooring. Prefinished flooring comes with many coats of factory finish seal which is much stronger than any finish you could apply at home.
If the flooring has been down for some years and you feel it needs to have new coat of finish. It needs to be lightly sanded and polyurethane (about 2-3 layers) need to be applied.
Once again I would not recommend doing this unless the factory finish has worn down.
How many square feet is 10 x 13?
130 square feet. Multiply length by width - the result is the area in square feet.
How many 16 x 16 inch tiles would cover 350 square feet?
A 16 X 16 inch tile encompasses 256 inches (16 multiplied by 16). A square foot = 12 inches X 12 inches. So 350 square feet would be 350 multiplied by 12 multiplied by 12 = 50,400 inches. So 50,400 inches (350 square feet) divided by 256 inches (16 X 16 inch tile) = 196.875 which would mean you would need approximately 197 tiles. This is only the math portion of your question, however you may need more than that to account for errors and tile cuts to fit the dimensions of your room.
Can bleach damage laminate flooring?
Yes. Even soap-based cleaners can damage laminate flooring. If you do need to clean laminate, use either a laminate-specific cleaner or a weak vinegar solution (4 parts water to 1 part vinegar) and dry the wet areas ASAP after mopping. If possible, use a spray bottle and wipe as you go.
