If each room is a rectangle and measures 21 feet by 15 feet and the carpet costs 24.00 per square yard including installation How much will it cost to have all 4 reading rooms carpeted?

The cost will be 3360.00 for all 4 rooms (4 x 35 sq yd = 140 square yards).

Area = L x W = 21 x 15 = 315 square feet.

Divide by 9 to get 35 square yards per room.

Multiply 35 x 24.00 = 840.00 and times 4 rooms is 3360.00

Can you install a hardwood floor over an existing hardwood floor?

I've done it many times. Make sure the original layer of wood is nailed tightly to the subfloor so that it doesn't squeak. Ideally you would go perpindicular to the original flooring, especially if it is Fir which has very loose milling. If you go the same direction as the Fir, you are married to the same vertical problem of movement that is inherent in that product. A layer of 30# felt helps reduce that movement problem. Most people want to lay it the same direction, because that asthetically looks the best, which is why they layed it that way in the first place. Summary: lots of nails in original floors to stabilize, 30# felt for movement if it's Fir

Can t molding be glued downed instead of nailed for laminate flooring?

Can you put tongue and groove on to concrete floor?

It's always best to follow the manufacturer's recommendations but in general, solid tongue and groove hardwood flooring should not be installed on concrete. Many of the laminated tongue and groove pre-finished products can be glued down to a concrete slab.

Actually (I am simply improving this question I didnt want to delete the first response) I manufacture hardwood floors, If you are installing floors in a basement the question should be if the floor is solid or engineered. Typically solid wood flooring should not be installed in a basement because the sub-terrain environment is more susceptible to humidity. The moisture then causes the floors to warp. Engineered wood, however is recommended for basements and they often come as tongue and groove.

Cement used for ceramic floor tiles?

Ceramic floor tiles need an acrylic fortified thinset. The acrylic can be added as a liquid or can be already in the mix. There are premixed thinsets available on the market. These are not preferable since they are often not as strong.

_________________________________________________________________________________

The cement used for fixing ceramic tiles is white cement or ordinary portland cement.

The white cement gives better bonding than the ordinary cement.

The use of white cement will not be economical when compared to ordinary cement.

Why does concrete floor get real hot?

Could be a thermostatically controlled heating source embedded in the concrete, or it may be that the concrete is absorbing heat from the sunlight to which it's exposed.

What can you do to fix a heaving basement floor?

You have to find out the cause of the heaving. Water is a likely culprit, but is relativel simple to remedy (simple- not cheap). You have to smack up part of the floor and install some sort of drain, preferable to the storm sewer. You may end up putting in a small sump and pumping the water outside. Frost and ice heaves are more involved and may require digging up part of the outside fill to add insulation ( usually fairly dense foam sheets ). Soil heaving is the worst and likely need the entire area broken up, excavated, compacted and refilled with sand. Fortunately this is pretty rare. Good luck.

What type of flooring is 2nd best over radiant floor heat?

What is best? Well, it is a fit between efficiency and comfort.

You can cover a radiant floor with practically anything, but generally less is more.

Bare concrete will transfer heat at the lowest design water temperature, followed by vinyl, tile, engineered wood, marble, engineered bamboo, oak, maple, thin carpet and pad and cork in typical installed thicknesses.

Low design temperatures mean lower fuel bills, especially when a condensing boiler is used as the heat source.

Most suppliers will have an R value for their product which is a critical design detail that must be determined before starting any radiant floor design.

Can you steam clean bambo floors?

How do you repair soft spots in mobile home floors?

You have two options; option a: Crawl under the mobile home and locate the soft spot(s). Remove the insulation and anything else in the way. Then use framing lumber (such as 2 x 4's or larger) cut to length to run perpendicular (90 degrees) to floor joists. Nail or screw them in place (maybe even use joist hangers) and voila' a new solid floor. option b: This is my preferred method especially if you found the floor to be very rotted out when you crawled under the trailer. From inside the trailer you need to cut the flooring as close to the walls as possible (usually within an inch and a half) then add framing lumber (see above) nailed in such a way that it will support new plywood sheathing. Screw or nail the new sheathing in place with a little bit of construction adhesive on each joist for the first layer that lays directly on top of the joists and voila' you have a new solid floor. ( This example being if you have an entire room such as a laundry room that is bad)
