Cork flooring is a wonderful product for any room. Think about it.... A Cork can spend a 100 years in a bottle of fine wine and not deteriorate. Cork flooring is soooooo durable and now comes in a lot of designer colors. It can be used in residential settings and is often used in commercial applications. Go on don't be afraid of Cork...it wears like iron.

Slate tile can be easily cut with a hand masonry saw using a blade with 14 teeth per inch (the coarser the teeth the better the cut). Scribe a line on the slate, whether it be a circle or straight, and cut through vertically.

grout removal and replacement is a hard and long project unless you already have the tools and knowledge, If you hire a tile contractor you are likely to spend anywhere from 2.50 to 3.50 a sq foot depending on the age of the grout and the thickness and width of the grout..........

for a concrete order, I would calculate the cubic footage first: 15 X 31 X 0.33 (4 inches) =153.45 cubic feet. there are 27 cubic feet in one cubic yard, so 154 (round up in construction--believe me..) again 154 divide by 27 is a concrete order of 5.703 cubic yards. cheers mate!

I would be skeptic of the abilities of anyone charging this low a price. The average price for ceramic tile installation in VA is 5.00/ square foot. Lowe's installation quotes start at $4.69/sq.ft. at our local store and we are in a small, rural low/med economic area. Tile can be a diy but contractors are not robbing their customers at this price, it is very time consuming and unless you want your house or room torn apart for many days or weeks, I'd just hire the professional and pay.

Search in your local Craigslist and, you would find very affordable guys. Remember, there are Handyman connection guys charging a $300 per service call, but you would find reasonable guys charging 100 for the same job. All it takes is few phone calls or do a posting in your local craigslist and you would get a good amount of response.

If this is for flooring linear feet may be established with just the length of 15' x 4". If flooring is being sold by the linear foot the width will already be established by the flooring you choose. Most come on a roll that is 10-12 feet wide. If it is the parameter measurement that is needed, just add the four sides. It is not a bad idea to just round inches up to feet and add.(16+16+9+9= 50') Feet can be converted to inches by multiplying by 12 and then adding the four sides. Feet would then be found by divided that answer by 12. The answer will be about 48 feet.

It depends on what you are gluing it to (concrete, plywood, tile). Research the different adhesives available from your flooring dealer.

There are several stone soaps available from Stone Tech (available at Lowe's as DuPont), Aqua Mix, Miracle Sealants (available at Home Depot). Before mopping on natural stone, please make sure that you vacuum well so there is nothing left to scratch the surface of the stone, especially polished stone. The easiest way to clean the floor is to spray the floor with stone soap and than use a steam cleaner. You use much less water and the steam evaporates and the floor dries in minutes. I've never liked the results of a string mop, personally I thing a sponge is better. I recommend steam cleaners on all types of stone. To shine ceramic tile floors, start by sweeping or vacuuming to remove debris. Then, mop the floor with a solution of water and a mild detergent. Finally, buff the tiles dry with a clean, dry cloth to achieve a shiny finish.

Generally a colour difference is the thing to be looking for. An oil based poly will generally have a browning effect on the timber that increases with age. A waterbase poly will generally give very little if any tonal change. Bear in mind that newer waterbased polys are 100% polyurethane products that will exhibit very litlle tonal change in their lifetime, but earlier products (and some "new") are co-polymers that sometimes seemed to bleach or even whiten timbers. Old solvent based poly (a product still available in some countries) will have a definite yellow coloured characteristic.

ask at any home improvement center, they'll show you which to use ---- You can also, if the floor is old or the nails are not going in easily, glue tack down. Always try to nail it first, but if this isn't working, good old fashion Liquid Nails works just fine too. This method is advisable if you have old 9" vinyl tile. They often contains asbestos which is best left undisturbed.

Ammonia in hot water used to be a good solution to remove wax from floors without damaging the floors. The Pledge site states, "To remove build-up on floors, mix 1 cup of ammonia and ¼ cup of Armstrong® Floor Cleaner with ½ gallon of cool water. Spread over a 3' x 3' area. Let stand 5 minutes, scrub and rinse with plain water. Repeat until build-up is removed and entire floor is clean."
