How would you install ceramic tile the right way?
You need to measure your wall/floor accurately to work out the square footage of tiles needed. Your tile supplier will be able to work this out for you if you take along your measurements. Your walls/floor will then need to be clean and free of old tile adhesive. You may need to install a new hardboard floor to cover old floorboards. Use a spirit level then starting from the longest straightest part begin to install your tiles. You will need an adhesive suitable to the weight of the tile you are using, a tile cutter to cut tiles to fit odd gaps and grout to finish off the joints between the tiles. Use spacers to ensure that the tiles are laid out evenly. A good DIY book will have all the information you need to make a good job of this task.

How many 18 inch by 18 inch tiles do you need to cover 121 square feet?
53.77 is the text book answer, but you will need at least 10 to 20 more tiles depending on the layout of the floor. A good layout is a balanced layout that starts at the center of the main entrance. There will be corners and side cuts. Cuts around doors, vanities, kitchen islands, closets, etc. There is also the damage and waste factors. Tiles do break!
I have laid many floor tiles and I found it best to set up a floor plan drawing of the floor and account for all of the cuts before I start then add in 20% more for waste. It happens.
How many square feet of tiled floor can 1 man burnish in an 8 hour shift?
That depends on the floor layout and the size of the tile (8", 12", 18", 24"). If the floor is a straight forward floor with no cuts or glitches it would go faster, but if there are many cuts and glitches it will go slower. You would also have to account for lunch and coffee breaks. Then you would have to factor in 'thin-set' mixing time. Of course, it would also depend on whether the home owner wants a professional job or a sloppy job. I would estimate that he could lay between 25 - 150 square feet (on average about 50-75).

How do you shine mosaic tile floor?
Start with clean, but the issue may be that the tiles are often not shiny when they are made. Many mosaic tiles are made to have a low lustre or de-lustered finish and were never intended to shine. The surface of the tiles is actually glass/ Glaze and often has a de-lustered finish to add to the look or to decrease the unsafe slippery factor that many shiny tiles have.
with that said, you can actually mop floor wax onto dull tiles & buff to get a shine if that is your goal.
How much would a tiler charge to lay 12 sq ft of porcelain tiles 600 x 600?
600X 600 would be approximately 27" X 27" tiles and that means each tile is over 4 sq feet if that is so, it is highly unlikely that you really only have 12 sq feet to do, what I suspect you mean is a room 12 feet square which would be 12X12 or 144 square feet, OR you may have a counter top or entry to do & it may in fact be 12 sq feet...
Install pricing varies widely from city to city and even from one tradesman to another, I have seen $6 per foot with one guy that is always busy and an hour later another guy offers to work for $2.5 per foot. The quality of the work is another variable, not every Tile setter can do every job.
Small jobs are usually priced as a Minimum & that can be anywhere from $200 to $600 flat fee.
Minimum labor charges not withstanding, I would use $6 per foot as a minimum if you have over 100 sq feet or $600 minimum if the job is small. Dont forget they will not provide the thinset, trims, backer board or the grout that is all on you too.
Hope that helps

Can you put slate over ceramic tile?
The answer to "Can you", is probably yes, the more thorough answer is you probably shouldn't.
Lets drill down a concept or two...
You are about to add another inch of thickness with the thin-set & Slate, that means redoing the base trim, kick space & cutting doors really short.. The extra thickness probably weighs 6-9 pounds per sq foot when the thin-set, slat & grout are all wet & in place... and that on top of the other flooring is getting to be a pretty great load...
Guessing her but either the old floor is ugly or not performing, Ugly is your call, not performing means cracks, loose or some other performance issue & that indicated rip it out...
There are a lot of other answers on here about tile over tile & that is almost completely interchangeable with slate over tile.. .might want to read those too...
all the best!
