You can find information on hardwood floor cleaners at many of the so-called big-box stores such as Wal-mart and Lowe's. You can also look at the Web sites for specific products dedicated to hardwood floors.

At most retailers, you can get 20 vinyl flooring tiles for between $10 and $30, and depending on the caliber of quality you would like, they can be as much as $50 for 20 tiles.

If so, that is 4 square feet and you will need 200 divided by 4 = 50 tiles of 4 sq.ft.

That is without wastage or cutting etc.

That depends on the floor layout and the size of the tile (8", 12", 18", 24"). If the floor is a straight forward floor with no cuts or glitches it would go faster, but if there are many cuts and glitches it will go slower. You would also have to account for lunch and coffee breaks. Then you would have to factor in 'thin-set' mixing time. Of course, it would also depend on whether the home owner wants a professional job or a sloppy job. I would estimate that he could lay between 25 - 150 square feet (on average about 50-75).

Wonder board is a cement board that is very firm. Unlike wood it doesn't warp or rot. It is especially used as the underlayment for tile floors and shower walls.

Start with clean, but the issue may be that the tiles are often not shiny when they are made. Many mosaic tiles are made to have a low lustre or de-lustered finish and were never intended to shine. The surface of the tiles is actually glass/ Glaze and often has a de-lustered finish to add to the look or to decrease the unsafe slippery factor that many shiny tiles have.

with that said, you can actually mop floor wax onto dull tiles & buff to get a shine if that is your goal.

600X 600 would be approximately 27" X 27" tiles and that means each tile is over 4 sq feet if that is so, it is highly unlikely that you really only have 12 sq feet to do, what I suspect you mean is a room 12 feet square which would be 12X12 or 144 square feet, OR you may have a counter top or entry to do & it may in fact be 12 sq feet...

Install pricing varies widely from city to city and even from one tradesman to another, I have seen $6 per foot with one guy that is always busy and an hour later another guy offers to work for $2.5 per foot. The quality of the work is another variable, not every Tile setter can do every job.

Small jobs are usually priced as a Minimum & that can be anywhere from $200 to $600 flat fee.

Minimum labor charges not withstanding, I would use $6 per foot as a minimum if you have over 100 sq feet or $600 minimum if the job is small. Dont forget they will not provide the thinset, trims, backer board or the grout that is all on you too.

Dal-tile has a showroom in every major city. Look them up on line or in the YP.com under ceramic tile wholesale... call them & tell them you are trying to find out if it is still a current style & if so, where is a local dealer.

The answer to "Can you", is probably yes, the more thorough answer is you probably shouldn't.

Lets drill down a concept or two...

You are about to add another inch of thickness with the thin-set & Slate, that means redoing the base trim, kick space & cutting doors really short.. The extra thickness probably weighs 6-9 pounds per sq foot when the thin-set, slat & grout are all wet & in place... and that on top of the other flooring is getting to be a pretty great load...

Guessing her but either the old floor is ugly or not performing, Ugly is your call, not performing means cracks, loose or some other performance issue & that indicated rip it out...
