What percentage of each is needed for a 3 4 and 5 inch wood floor installation?
Let us assume this poorly worded question is a math problem, let us further assume that the numbers are the width of the boards in a mixed width flooring installation.
3"+4"+5"=12"
so each 1" of board is 1/12th of the total.
1 divided by 12= .0833 or 8 1/3 % of the total
so if you multiply 3X 8 1/3 you get 25% (and 3/12ths is 25% so this looks promising)
3"X 8 1/3%=25%
4"X 8 1/3%= 33.333%
5"X 8 1/3%= 41.667
add those up & we get 100% so the work is good & the proof is valid

Why is it best to use underlayment when replacing a floor?
Your new floor will only be as good as the subfloor it goes over. New underlayment doesn't have wax, cracks, stains, rot or anything that is the reason you are replacing it, and it is smooth & provides a good surface for adhesion... the process of removing the old unearths bad subfloor conditions very often that would have compromised your new floor , so it is also part of a good process too...

Can carpet be put down on an uneven floor?
FLOOR PREP CARPET
You can put carpet over an uneven floor, BUT
Every ridge, Gap or mis alignment in the sub floor will show through over time.
Here is a good rule of thumb.. If a gap or a height difference greater than the thickness of a Nickel is present, it will show through the carpet sooner or later.
Carpet cushion will help, but it is not "floor prep" on a roll & will not fix anything, only mask it some.
Ardex floor feather finish is a great & easy product to skim coat & feather out and fill in differences, it is available at any carpet installation supply house or the home centers.. DO NOT use dependable white crack filler, it will crack & break apart and cause you more problems in the long run.

VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile) should run .30-.50cents a sq ft & you will provide the adhesive about $25 per gallon. Floor prep will be an add on
Ceramic can be $3-$7 depending on the job & quality of the work. expect to also provide the thin set, grout trims & floor prep as extras out of your pocket...
How do you replace a cracked ceramic floor tile?
you will bust it up & remove & drop a new one in it's place..
That is the short answer.
The grout will have to removed as well & breaking tile & flying grout can be dangerous on your eyes & ears, fingers & toes, so make sure you wear safety glasses, hearing protection & gloves & shoes are nice in the workplace too.
Please understand that you will need to remove enough of the old thinset/ to put more in to hold the new tile & the grout will never match..NEVER!
so while you will get rid of a crack the new tile will not match the old & the new grout will not either... good luck..
Can I use construction glue to install my wood floor?
The answer is PROBABLY, BUT; each manufacturer has an approved adhesive & usually for a reason, if you do not use their adhesive (& they can tell if you did or didn't!). if you ever have a problem, they will blame it on the adhesive & pay you nothing.
DO NOT take what anyone here says, even if they are right. The maker will want you to use their glue. Construction adhesive will probably cost more than the right glue so why would you want to take the chance?

Is ply wood stronger than regular wood?
Given that there are dozens of different kinds of wood, all of various hardnesses, one should define "regular wood" when asking such a question. Regardless, the short answer to your question is "no." California Redwood is a very soft wood, which is rated at about 400 on the Janka Hardness Scale, and Brazillian Ebony is one of the hardest woods, rated at about 3,700 on the Janka Hardness Scale. By comparison, most plywood is made of birch and/or mahogany, which are rated at about 1,300 and 2,200, repsectively. The hardest plywood is sometimes made of teak, which is rated at about 3,500, which falls short of Brazillian Ebony by about 200 points on the Janka Hardness Scale.

Can you do hardwood floors and tile floors in same home?
Yes. I have done it. First have the hardwood floor installed. After the hardwood floor is installed have the tile installer install the tile. The reason for this is that the hardwood is very firm and has little room for adjustment. An excellent tile installer can adjust the height of the tile to be flush and level with the hardwood floor with little or no seem. When its done it looks beautiful.
