Just to the left of the engine temperature gauge , at the center of the normal
operating temperature range . It is a symbol of a person wearing a seat belt with a
circle in front of them
Most likely a partially plugged catalytic converter Or engine misfire Is the check engine light on?? If not have your exhaust backpressure checked
Check the yellow wire under the front seats one of them must be lose.
Check fuses
Check Vacuum dump switch located at the upper end of the brake pedal (similar to brake light switch) for alignment and adjustment
Check the center stop light ( I don't know why, but they tell me if center brake does not work cruise will not work.) neither seem to have power but the fuses are all in good condition but no cruse ot traction control please help
Normally its just the fuse. See your owners manual.

Just adding to the answer :
With engine oil filter change the 2.0 liter Zetec four cylinder engine in a 2004
Ford Escape takes ( 4.5 U.S. quarts )
* 5W-20 as mentioned above
put a spacer block between the seat rail and the floorboard.
Plug on the upper side of the transmission. Use only the proper lube as outlined in your owner's manual.
Oxygen Sensor
Some vehicles have (2) and some have (4) O2 sensors.
When you start looking at the O2 sensors, they are normally numbered something like "Bank 1 Sensor 1" Bank 1 is on the passenger side; Bank 2 is on the driver's side. Sensor 1 is the upstream sensor (near the frame, between the block and the cat) and Sensor 2 is near the Y-pipe (downstream of the cat).
Normally it is the upstream sensors (sensor 1) that go first. They see the harshest conditions.
You will need;
Oxygen Sensor Socket
Anti-Seized
Penetrating Oil
I have even used a small plumbers propane tank and heat it up and it help get them free.
Sometimes it will take 15 minutes or take a few hours it depends on your luck...

Oxygen Sensor
There are actually (4) O2 sensors on your truck. If you look inside the wheel wells behind the fender liner, right about where the frame is one O2 sensor, the other is underneath the truck about half way back in relation to the transmission. If you see where the exhaust joints together, you went about 6" too far.

I am not familiar with your model of Ford, BUT... I have owned Fords for years, including right now an '89 F-150 and a '93 F-150, and have helped family and friends with other brands of vehicles.
Most late model vehicles don't require dis-assembly of the lens from the assembly. Usually, the bulb is inserted into a SOCKET which inserts into the BACKSIDE of the reflector of the light assembly with a one quarter turn clockwise [to the right] of the socket into the assembly.
On some vehicles the tail light assemblies and their wiring are CONCEALED behind some carpeting and/or fiberboard panels. If this is the case, these panels are usually just sized to be a force-fit into the compartment, BUT... before trying to "muscle" it out, CAREFULLY CHECK see IF "they" used some screws to secure the panel or carpet in place. IF SO, then remove the screws before trying to remove the fiberboard or carpet concealment panels.
To change a bulb, you open the trunk, find the right socket for the tail light, grasp the socket [the wires come out of the back of it] and gently rotate the socket about one quarter of a turn counterclockwise [anticlockwise-left].
This will allow the socket to be pulled out of the assembly exposing the light bulb. While holding the socket in one hand, with the other hand gently "rock" the bulb in the socket while pulling outward which should release and remove the old bulb.
Then insert the new bulb in the socket, reinstall the socket into the opening in the back of the assembly reflector, and gently turn 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in the reflector.
Then if present, reinstall the concealment panel or carpet.

According to the 2008 Ford Escape Owner Guide :
Both the 2.3 liter four cylinder engine and the 3.0 V6 are designed to use :
( " regular " unleaded gasoline , 87 octane )
If the check engine light is flashing every second or so with the engine running that
means an engine cylinder misfire has been detected
Should be Ok, check towing capacity against GVW to be sure, stay well below the limit.
Also check with the dealer if the Escape has an automatic transmission, damage can result from towing if not done properly.
on the bottom of the transmission there is a plug that you take out. you can stick your little finger in the hole where the plug was to see if it is low. if you do not get fluid on your finger, it may need a quart or so.
What do you mean by "Torgue Setting"? Here are the Spec's. for that engine. Horsepower 175.00 HP (128.8 KW) @ 4000.00 RPM Torque 245.00 Ft-Lbs (332.2 NM) @ 2400.00 RPM
if the ignition is cycled, driver's seat belt is unbuckled for
more than 10 seconds and the vehicle speed is greater
than 5 mph (8 km/h).
The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be enabled
or disabled by your authorized dealer or by
following these steps:
NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first
60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON
or START position. DaimlerChrysler does not recommend
deactivating the Enhanced Warning System
(BeltAlert).
1. With all doors closed and the ignition switch in any
position except On or Start, buckle the driver's seat belt.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait
for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.
3. Within 60 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the
ON position, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver's
seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending
with the seat belt buckled.
NOTE: Watch for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn on
while unbuckling and off while re-buckling the seat belt.
It may be necessary to retract the seat belt.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. A
single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully
completed the programming.
The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated
by repeating this procedure.
NOTE: Although the Enhanced Warning System
(BeltAlert) has been deactivated, the Seat Belt Warning
Light will continue to illuminate while the driver's seat
belt remains unbuckled.
The pump is located next to the windshield water tank, to access it you have to go by the passengers side, remove the Allen nuts for the mudguard that is right above the front tire, remove the cover and you will see the pump just in the right side, almost behind the fender.
I discover this location because suddenly the water sistem in the windshield stop sendig water, I touhgt it was the pump, but water was still going out, the mudguardcover and wheel were wet. I removed the mudguard and found that the hose was disconected. I fixed it and put the mudgard back in place. I prefered to do it myself and took me about 30 minutes from start to finish. I could have took a day in the ford dealer to fix it and who knows how much they could have charged for it.
My SUV is a 2006 Ford Escape 3.0 V6, I have been comparing the haynes manual (Special:Booksources) for 2001 to 2003 models and basically us the same thing for all the models. So is useful for everyone who wants to do repairs by your own.
