Why is the forest cover of the world fast dissapearring?

The forests of the world are disappearing due to one main reason: We're are cutting them down. Other smaller reasons could include fast spreading diseases or parasites like the pine beetle however the largest reason remains that we are cutting them down. We are causing this depletion in the size of the world's forests because of a need to expand and build in more places. We, as a race, are growing exponentially and that combined with the unsustainable way of life most humans live has created this need for more space. Another reason that we are destroying these forests is due to the unsustainable harvesting of trees. This means that the trees are cut down in vast expanses and none are planted in their place.
