What did original tarot cards look like?
Tarot cards began as card games in the 15th century. I do not know of any pictures available of the original cards.
First, make a good pot of loose-leaf tea. Any kind you like, pour it into a wide teacup with a handle and saucer. Add whatever you normally do to it, sit and drink your tea, thinking about the situation you are concerned about; the future in general; or a specific question. Drink as far down as you can, leaving just enough tea to swirl the leaves around the cup. Turn your cup three times clockwise, and turn it upside own on the saucer to drain. Lift the cup and look at the tea leaves in the cup. Use you imagination and "see" signs in the shapes of the clusters of leaves.
General bits of advice: Symbols closest to the handle are events closest to home. Actually, I think our subconcious pick cards..remember the law of attraction? Subconcious knows all answers,your past, your future and everything else. So when you use tarot,our subconcious mind choose the best cards for us which represent our future.
I somewhat agree with that but I believe it to be our spirit or "soul" that knows all. That spirit is able to connect to those in the higher spiritual realms and they in turn guide and cards and us as we do a reading. That is why is important to pray and get i tune with spirit before doing a reading.

Can people really tell fortune?
No, people cannot really tell your fortune. It is just fiction that people can tell your fortune, as no one can tell the future.
"Fortune-telling" isn't "seeing the future", that's a common misconception and worse, prejudice, that people have about certain aspects of these types of practises(such as astrology, etc).
In a larger sense, fortune telling is a way of examining who you are and what you do and what you are capable of, and a doctor can reasonably be said to be "telling your fortune" by examining different parts of your body and blood, etc.
Numerous ways to "tell a person's fortune" have come up through the ages, some more contrived and less faithful than others, but simply through acts like getting a person to roll sets of dice while asking questions, etc. can a "fortune teller" get an idea of what a person is, where they are at, etc.
The teller can then mirror these observations back to the person to hopefully try give them some new sense of guidance and assuredness of their next steps in life, etc. and it's far from any type of "magic" or "seeing the future" misconception(at least on its best terms...like all crafts, professions and endeavours, it's only as good as the person who's performing it).
There's more to it, of course, but in a nutshell I would say that "yes, people can tell your fortune" and that they can do it in nearly an infinite numbers of ways(urologists do it by studying your urine, for example) :D
