How do you play the french horn?

You place your lips on the mouthpiece, make sure your lips are tighter at the corners. Just blow into the mouthpiece. If your a natural like me, your lips will do all the work, but if your not, all you have to do is try making your lips vibrate. It sounds harder than it really is, trust me. Now your going to want to place your hand in the bell, but not to far in or the sound will get distorted. When you play higher notes, you're going to want to tighten your lips, and push out as much air as you can. When you play lower notes, you're going to want to loosen your lips so your lips are free to vibrate into the lower range. You will notice that a popping sound will come from the bell every now and then. This is because of spit build up. If your French Horn comes with a spit valve, use that. But if your French Horn, like mine, doesn't come with a spit valve, take out your mouth piece, tip the French Horn over and the spit will come out the hole where you place the mouth piece.

That should do it :]

it will come don't worry:-)

How many steps up is a trumpet then a french horn?

A trumpet is a perfect fifth (P5) higher than a horn. Another way to say it is that there's 7 half-steps in-between them.

For example, if you wanted the trumpet pitch for the horn's G, you would go G-A-B-C-D or G-G#-A-A#(Bb)-C-C#-D.

What does a french horn player put into the bell?

Normally, then hand is slightly cupped and the side of the index finger and the thumb are touching the bell, holding the instrument up. When the piece of music calls for a special sound, horn players can adjust the position of their hand to allow a half step change in the pitch. There are also times when horn players raise the entire instrument, holding the bell from the outside, to allow a louder/ blasting sound. In addition, there are also different mutes that creates different quality of sounds when needed for special parts of (usually orchestral) music.

What is an f horn?

An F horn, also known as a French horn or just a horn, is a brass wind instrument consisting of around 13 feet of metal tubing coiled up into a circular shape with a very large bell and 3 rotary valves, though some have a fourth key that acts as a bass key, which would make it a double horn. As the name suggests, it plays in the key of F, with it's concert Bb scale starting on F, and it's the only brass instrument played with the left hand. It can be played in both brass and woodwind groups, even though it is a brass instrument. It's arguably the hardest instrument to play in an orchestra.
