Gallbladders and Bile

Bile is produced in the liver, stored and concentrated in the gallbladder and released into the small intestine. Bile emulsifies the lipids in fatty food and makes it easier to digest. Unfortunately, the gallbladder can develop gallstones which can be tiny grains or as big as golf balls. Some cause no trouble but others may become life threatening.

Can your gallbladder cause you to feel full and bloated?

One of the potential symptoms of a gall bladder condition known as gallstones is feeling bloated.

However there are a number of other conditions (some of them potentially serious) that can cause similar symptoms to that caused by gallstones so it is important that you should speak to a doctor so the cause of your symptoms can be properly investigated.

What is cholecystitis with cholelithiasis?

Kidney stones are solid accumulations of material that form in the tubal system of the kidney. Kidney stones cause problems when they block the flow of urine through or out of the kidney. When the stones move along the ureter, they cause severe pain.

A gallstone is a solid crystal deposit that forms in the gallbladder, which is a pear-shaped organ that stores bile salts until they are needed to help digest fatty foods. Gallstones can migrate to other parts of the digestive tract and cause severe pain with life-threatening complications.

What happens after you eat greasy foods after you had your gallbladder out?

Yes, you can. Whether or not it is wise is another question entirely. I don't have a gallbladder anymore, and my doctor didn't give me any specific guidelines about fatty foods. Fatty foods in general aren't very healthy, so "should" and "can" are different things here. :) I still eat pizza and cake as often as I used to. Basically your gallbladder is almost useless so you shouldn't worry too much about it. Your gallbladder is just a sack containing bile, bile is produced by the liver so it isn't too much different after the surgery. However, the bile is stronger and a little more effective after sitting in the gallbladder for awhile so there are small differences in your body's digestion.

Can gallstones cause pain in left side as well?

=== === Between 1 - 3% of people with symptomatic gallstones develop inflammation in the gallbladder (acute cholecystitis), which occurs when stones or sludge block the duct. The symptoms are similar to those of biliary colic but are more persistent and severe. They include the following: * Pain in the upper right abdomen that is severe and constant, and may last for days. Pain frequently increases when drawing a breath. * Pain may also radiate to the back or occur under the shoulder blades, behind the breast bone, or on the left side. * About a third of patients have fever and chills. * Nausea and vomiting may occur. Anyone who experiences such symptoms should seek medical attention. Acute cholecystitis can progress to gangrene or perforation of the gallbladder if left untreated. Infection develops in about 20% of acute cholecystitis, which increases the danger from this condition. People with diabetes are at particular risk for serious complications.

What gets produced in the liver?

Bile is produced - produced in the liver and stalled in the gall bladder

Can you get gallstones with no gallbladder?

You can still get gallstones, although they are less common after the removal of the gallbladder. Gallstones are caused by too much cholesterol or calcium in the bile your liver produces, which then can crystalize. Normally if they crystalize it happens in the gallbladder, but it could still happen in the ducts that connect your liver and your stomach.

How much bile produced by liver per day?

The liver does not produce blood. It produces a bile that is used to help break down food in the stomach and digestive system.

How long should you wait before seeing a doctor for gallbladder?

Gallbladder symptoms can come and go or be constant. You should check with your doctor to see if they can do an ultrasound of your abdomen to see if there are gallstones. If no gallstones but you are still having problems you might want to see a Gastroenterologist (GI) doctor.

Where are Gallstones found?

Most gallstones remain in the gallbladder where they cause no symptoms. Sometimes they may pass into and obstruct the bile duct, which may lead to a variety of problems.

What is the danger of excessive amount of cholesterol in bile?

It may cause the formation of stones in your gallbladder. An effective way to fight excess of cholesterol is tea made with aubergine skin, every day at morning before having not eaten anything.

What happens if you have too much bile?

When your body produces too much bile it increases the acidity in your digestive tract. It can cause diarrhea, loose stool, change in color of your stool, and your bile can enter your stomach from your intestine causing your stomach to become overly acidic. This can mimic symptoms of acid reflux. Acid reflux medication may temporarily ease symptoms, but ultimately will not work. To keep bile levels normal you can take prescription medications such as colestid.

What is yellow bile?

Bile is yellow (it is the only colour it comes in!). It has two principle functions 1) as a detergent, emulsifying fats, giving them a higher surface area to enhance digestion, and 2) to alkalise (to increase the pH of, make less acidic) material passed into the duodenum from the stomach which is very acidic and would be damaging to the relatively unprotected tissues downstream of the stomach.

If you have one gallstone is it likely that you have others?

No its not normal, but not rare

I think it is somewhat hereditary, or it may be related to the kind of diet you follow,

try to take green tea regularly. It may be related to high cholesterol levels, LDL or HDL. Ask your doctor for a cholesterol level checking. Lowering fat ingestion is also good.

Control fat ingestion and increase ingestion of omega 3. Aubergine's peel is very good in the form of tea. Try a medicine which contains methionine, choline and betaine.

What does a shadow on the gallbladder mean?

Depends on the context, and the radiological technique used to observe the kidney. If you or a close one benefited from an exam to see the kidneys, this term was probably used to describe a vague image, but that the technique used was not able to determine exactly what (if anything) was there. But as I said, it depends on the context and the reason why the exam took place in the first place.
