Can a golfer play both right handed and left handed in the same round of golf?

No, it doesn't make any difference just whatever you feel most comfortable with. The world's number 2 player (Phil Mickelson) is left handed, although there are not many famous left handed pros. As a rule of thumb, a right handed writer would play right handed and vice versa, although this is not always the case, Phil Mickelson writes right handed.

Are you allowed to ground your club in a bunker?

How many pars in a 18 hole golf course?

Each hole and every course has its own predetermined par. Par is the standard number of strokes set for each hole or for the entire course. there are 4 par 3's, 10 par 4's and 4 par 5's

There are always 18 pars on an 18 hole golf course. Par is considered to be the score an expert should require to finish a particular hole. now, perhaps the above (4 par 3's, 10 par 4's and 4 par 5's) is true on a "standard" or regulation (par 72) course. But there are also courses that are par 69, 70, 71, 73 and so on. These will obviously not follow the standard breakdown. Then also consider "executive" courses, consisting of only par 3's and par 4's. These are often par 58 but again, these can vary as well.

Can you move an out of bounds stake to hit a shot?

What is the penalty for teeing off in the wrong area in matchplay golf?

If you play from the wrong teeing area, in strokeplay, there is a two shot penalty, but you must correct your mistake before playing a stroke from the next teeing ground. All strokes taken up to this point don't count, so it is essentially 3 off the tee. If you fail to correct your mistake you are disqualified.

It is very different however in matchplay, if a stroke is taken from the wrong teeing ground, your opponent may simply ask you to cancel that stroke and replay the shot from the correct tee.

These rules apply for teeing from outside the teeing ground also.

If you swing and ball does not move is it a stroke?

Yes. From the Rules, available at www.usga.org: "A "stroke'' is the forward movement of the club made with the intention of striking at and moving the ball, but if a player checks his downswing voluntarily before the clubhead reaches the ball he has not made a stroke" So if you intended to hit the ball, it's a stroke.

Personally, I don't like that rule. I don't think it should count if the ball doesn't move. But I don't make 'em up, I just tell 'em.

Answer by FutureLPGAgolfer

Yes, it counts as a stroke if you swing and the ball doesn't move.

Are putter chipper golf clubs legal?

Depends. There's nothing wrong with a club that looks sort of like a putter with loft. It can't, however, be usable from both sides. According to the rules: Appendix II, 4c states that: The clubhead must only have one striking face, except that a putter may have two such faces if their characteristics are the same, and they are opposite each other. This rule was intended to specifically prohibit clubs with two striking faces, but they made an exception for plain blade putters with two identical opposing faces.

If you can not find your ball in a hazard is it considered lost?

This is known as a lateral hazard, it differs from a water hazard as you can drop on either side of the hazard. There are a couple of options;

  • Take a two club length drop, from the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole.
  • Replay the previous shot, from the previous position.
  • Keep the point where the ball entered the hazard between you and the pin, and go back as far as you like.
  • You do have the option of playing the ball as it lies, but remember, you can not ground you club in a hazard.

Can a person who is putting under PGA golf rules use just one hand to putt?

Yes, you are allowed to do this, people usually do this if they have a very short putt that you can't miss. But from long range it isn't ideal as you wouldn't have full control of the club.

What if a player hits his ball in the woods off the tee?

There is two options open to you, they each cost you a penalty stroke. You can replay the ball from the tee (which will be your 3rd shot), or you can take a drop. To take the drop, you can go back as far as you want, keep the point where the ball entered the hazard between you and the flag and drop the ball (the next shot will also be your 3rd).

As it is a water hazard, you do not need to get the ball, as long as you saw the ball enter the hazard, you are allowed to play another ball.
