What is the significance of rhett and melanie's relationship in Gone With the Wind?

Scarlett hates Melanie in the begining, for Scarlett thinks she is in love with Ashley Wilkes, Melanie's husband. Melanie, oblivious to Scarlett's love for Ashley, loves Scarlett like a sister. Toward the end of the book, Scarlett and Ashely are caught hugging each other, (And in those days if a married man hugged a woman, it would be considered cheating on his wife) and they were caught by India Wilkes, Ashley's sister, who tells Melanie. Melanie now knows of Scarlett's lust for Ashley, but still defends her and loves her. In the end of the book, when Melanie dies, Scarlett realizes that she loved Melanie, and that she never loved Ashley, but she loved Rhett Butler, whom she was married to at the time. But when she goes home, she tells Rhett that she loves him, not Ashley, and he doesn't believe her, and leaves her. No, although many real places have naturally claimed to be the inspiration. Most of the movie was shot on film sets in Hollywood. The exteriors of Tara and Twelve Oaks were only built partially with matte paintings used to fill in the rest.

What happens at the end of Gone With the Wind?

Fiddle-De-De! I can't believe you don't know how this classic tale of the Civil War ends. Well, Scarlet and Rhett's daughter Bonnie is killed in a riding accident.(jumping her pony) At long last Scarlet realized she didn't love Ashley, but instead loved Rhett. Too late, Rhett didn't give a damn and walked out of Tara and out of Scarlet's life. As the last scene faded to black, or you turn the last page if your reading the book, Scarlet was bound and determined to get Rhett back again. The End.

Where did scarlett tell Ashley she loves him in Gone With the Wind?

Ashley told Scarlett, who was vigorously pursuing him, that he could not betray the best wife a man had ever had, and he would go up north to work in a bank. Scarlett did not approve of that and so she apologized for throwing herself at him.

Ashley asked Scarett to take care of Melanie, which was a dangerous undertaking, considering that Melanie had just delivered a baby, and she shaking of the dilapidated wagon was enough to make Melanie faint, on the way back to Tara. However, since Atlanta was under seige by Sherman, there was no choice.

Sherman cut a wide swathe from Atlanta to St. Augustine, burning everything in his path, including livestock, crops and other food that would have been of great benefit to the widows and lone women who desperately needed such food. Following this brave act on the part of an apparentl arsonist, Sherman opined, "War is Hell." He should know.

Most memorable scene in Gone With the Wind?

This varies, for everyone has different opinions, but my favorite part, is, when Atlanta is under siege, and the Union troops (Yankees) are invading Atlanta, Scarlett decides to flee the city for the safety of her rural Clayton County home. She sends her maid, Prissy, to fetch Rhett Butler, so that he can help them. He goes to the home she is staying in (Her Aunt Pittypat's home) and finds Scarlett weeping. She is crying, and he says that she is crazy to try to haul Melanie Wilkes, whom had a baby that day and was very ill, in a rickety wagon, bouncing all the way to Tara, her home. She cries and screams to him, punching in the air, "I will! I will! I will if I have to walk every step of the way! I'll kill you if you try to stop me! I will go home!" Rhett then takes Scarlett in his arms, and speaks to her comfortingly, calming her down, for he loved her. He says : "There there. Don't cry, my brave little girl. You will go home." And they get into the wagon. (Here is were it gets exciting) They are halfway to Tara, the Yankees on the tail, when Rhett stops the horse, and beckons Scarlett out of the wagon. He tells her that he feels guilty for staying out of the army, and is abandoning them to join. She thinks he is joking, and when she realizes that he is not, says, "What if the Yankees get us?" to which Rhett replies, "God help any Yankee who gets in your way!" meaning that when Scarlett is determind she will stop at nothing to get what she wants. He then Kisses her Passionatly, and she tells him that she hopes a bomb lands on him and kills him. She makes it home to Tara, to find her mother dead, and her father stupified. She later meets up with Rhett, for he doesn't die, and eventually marries him.

Was Gone With the Wind black and white?

Well yes but it depends on how you look at it. GWTW has brought in the most money after inflation and most sold tickets, however, it has also had about 7 or 8 re-releases between 1950 and 1970, with one of those in the 1990's I believe when it was remaster. Very few movies have had a re-release since 1980 because of vhs tapes and now dvd's or blu-ray's. Titanic has had one re-release in 3d, but how likely is it going to have anymore in the future, not very. It took in quite a few new ticket sales in that re-release, it would really start to add up if it were re-released several more times and didn't have to rival against dvd's today. So the numbers are misleading. I have seen list that account for these things, no re-releases, plus population % and other things. When those are taken in account Gone With the Wind drops out of the top 10 and usually The Sound of Music bounces up to number one. I've seen GWTW even go down to number 23 on one list.

It was not as big in 1939 and 1940 as we are lead to think, but it definitely was a big movie at that time. Some movies seem to get bigger with time, than they were at the original release.

It depends on which version it is.

The first one is the rarest, it had Hattie McDaniel on the back bottom right corner, and printing was halted due to southern views on 'coloreds' at the time. The next version had a blank back and the third and final version showed Alicia Rhett in place of McDaniel. The last one is the most common and depending on condition sells for $35-$150.
