Apart from a basic built-in video cards such as an Intel-integrated graphics card, many brands compete to offering the best video cards, namely Nvidia GeForce and ATi Radeon. Another noticeable company is AMD.

Try Nvidia's 9 series (like geforce 9200 or 9800 for gamers) they also came out with a heavy duty card. geforce 350 to handle the modern day games. But cost 500 bucks.

A motherboard has expansion slots, most boards even new ones will have a pci, pci-e 1.0, slots. Depending on how old the motherboard is it will not work well with todays software. The expansion slots today are mostly used for:

- Adding or replacing a video card if the orginial video port goes bad or not detailed enough (pixals in the image) to work with certain software.

- Adding USB ports if the if the older computer does not have enough or any. This way more modern perpherals (printers, keyboards, mouses, external hard-drives...etc.) can be used.

- Adding or replacing a network card.

Now take the newest boards, they have pci-e 2.0 16x, which are the fastest slots, but they still have a pci slot for say a wireless card.

Many of the connections for video, sound, keyboard, printer and anything else used on the computer is connected some way or another all built into the motherboard most times. Sometimes these connections go bad. Rather than buy another motherboard the expansion slots offers and alternative and possible upgrade to the repair of the problem.

If you can, search 'intel graphics drivers' on google and click on the link that leads you to the official intel website. Once that's done, download the graphics driver for your card (most drivers have a list of which graphics cards are compatible with this version).

I guess the file name that you will need to search for in the Atheros website is xp3264-7.6.1.1 84-whql..

However, This driver is still not the most recent updated one.. But this will solve the immediate purpose of connectin to the internet and getting more drivers..

The easiest would be to refer either to your motherboard manual or at your packaging that came with your graphics card.

Or just download a copy of Everest Ultimate Edition

Being quite an old (2002?) graphics card Nvidia's original Mac drivers were written for Mac OS 9. The card can support Open GL/Quartz but many manufacturers made their own versions of the card some are more Mac friendly than others. (See links below)

Start a game, go into the options/settings, click video, click advanced and check "Enable Vsync"

Personally I don't see why anyone would want to enable vsync, so don't do it.

Alternatively you could go into your driver and find image quality and settings and enable it in there.

More thann 3 quarter laptops cannot have there graphics card changed saddly. However, there are people out there who has a kit which allows you to hook a graphics card to a device and the device to go into your laptop. I would not recommend doing so.

Laptops have the graphics chips soldered directly onto the motherboard, to save space. Unfortunately, during fault finding, reference is still made about your 'graphics card', assuming the system is a desk top. Repairs to a laptop graphics system, involves re-flowing the solder on the motherboard. Something which requires expensive equipment beyond the average repair shop.

Any PCI-Express video card will fit into this motherboard. As to the specific make and model, it does depend on what you intend to use the computer for. If you are using this computer for an HTPC setup, there are inexpensive "silent" video cards which can perform this function admirably. One example would be an ATi Radeon HD 3450. There are a couple of online retailers which price the card between $40-$60.

Intel makes this particular, very high performance, graphics card while Nvidia is one of the best manufacturers in the known universe for the GMA X4500.

They all come in series for the Geforce graphic cards which are the best. The 7 series will get you some fun but not everything. The 8 series will get you almost everything but is shaky on high performance games. They have a series out right now that has a number in the 200s on it like Geforce 250 and these are the best you can get.

To the date, the best GPU out there is the £1000+ Asus ROG Ares II. This is basically a dual gpu card and watercooled

Depends on the computer, some use F1, F2, DEL, ESC. When your first turn the computer on at the logo, you should see something somewhere either at the top or bottom of the screen saying press "what ever button" to enter setup..or something along those lines

Yes, the laptop is good. But do not expect much from 525m. While it is not bad, it is really far from allowing you to play high demanding games (Crisis 2 etc) with all graphics options enabled.
