Great Danes have shorter lifespans compared to smaller dog breeds primarily due to their large size, which predisposes them to various health issues. Their rapid growth can lead to skeletal problems, and they are also more susceptible to conditions like dilated cardiomyopathy and bloat. Additionally, the metabolic and physiological demands of their size can strain their organs, contributing to a shorter lifespan. Overall, while they are gentle giants, their size presents unique health challenges that limit their longevity.

What type of large dog not the great dane is in the latest petsmart commercial?

I believe it is an Anatolian Shepherd. I just saw the commercial and was wondering myself what kind of dog it is. It's large enough to be a dane, but clearly isn't. I found some pictures of Anatolian Shepherds and some of them resemble the dog in the ad (if your talking about the one with the dog sitting in between the husband and wife on the couch and then in bed). The Anatolian has the same tail, coloring and has the capabilities to be that long. I have had several large dogs and am researching getting a new one, and i think the Anatolian will deffinatley be considered. They are great looking dogs! Hope I've been helpful! -Lisa

Where was the first great dane breed?

The Great Dane is a very old breed, known as the "Apollo of all dogs.". Dogs resembling the Great Dane have appeared on Greek money dating back to 36 B.C. There are also drawling's of these dogs on Egyptian monuments from roughly 3000 B.C. The earliest writings of dogs that sounded like Great Danes were in Chinese literature dating back to 1121 B.C. In 407 A.D. German Gaul and part of Italy and Spain were invaded by an Asiatic people (the Alans) who brought with them powerful mastiff-like dogs. They were admired for their ability to bring down bear and wild boar. The dogs were thought to have been Wolfhound mixed with the old English Mastiff. With selective breeding the Greyhound was added in to create the Great Dane. Besides being used as a hunter, they were also used as estate guard dogs. Despite the fact that they are called Danes in English, they have nothing to do with Denmark. The Great Dane was recognized in 1887. Some of the Great Dane's talents are tracking, watchdog and carting.

What is stronger a great dane or a pit bull?

I have heard many professionals state that the pit, is the smartest dog known to man. I have never heard one say that about Danes. Now, none of that really has anything to do with the actual value of the relationship, one has with their dog. The dumbest dog in the world, can be your best friend. It all comes down to your expectations of the relationship, and what you are willing to put into it. In fact, I have to say that pits, being so smart, make them harder to own. The best way to choose a dog, is to read a little bit about all the breeds, then, go to your local animal shelter, and wait until one makes a connection, with you. The best things in the world, have happened to me when I was not looking for it to happen. But, when I set out to make something happen, the worst came of it. I guess what I am saying, is, sometimes in life, we have to go out, and make things happen. Example, we need to control things like jobs, and friends, and some things happen best, when we do not force them, but, are open to opportunities. A relationship with a dog, is one that I have found, for me, that is best left open to chance, thus reducing my expectations of the relationship, and making it more enjoyable.........Chuck.

What is the jaw pressure of a great Pyrenees?

About 750lbs...

second only to the bull terrier (775lbs)...

and people think that pitbulls are strong haha (225lbs)...

size matters in this case actually (except for the bull terrier)..

Great Dane,Cane Corso,Bull Mastiff,Asian Shepherd, caucasian shepherd and Dog Bordeaux bite force are much stronger then for example Doberman,German Shepherd or Pitbull.

tho you must consider that for example Doberman would attack the neck and not your arm (like most of the dogs) and its attack is way more leatel.

in my opinion, the most dangerous dog's breed are :

1. Great Dane. (if a 90kg dog would attack you,you stand no chance).

2. Caucasian Shepherd. (im sure you know why and i dont need to get into detail here.)

3.Asian Shepherd.

4.Bull Terrier

5.Bull Mastiff

6.Cane Corso

7.Doberman

8.Dog Bordeau

9.German Shepherd.

10.Dogo Argentino.

Hope i helped you.
