I am not sure how many there are. But people have been saying there are about 6,000,000 left in the wild. Doesn't sound endangered to me!

How do sea turtles protect themselves? The most obvious answer to this question is prominently displayed upon their backs. The hard, bony external shell, called a carapace, not only indicates the relative age and species of sea turtles; it also functions as a natural suit of armor.

Unlike land turtles, however, sea turtles cannot retract their heads and limbs under their shells. Their bodies are streamlined for endurance and speed in the water, which comes in handy when adult sea turtles are confronted by their primary predators: large sharks and killer whales. Ironically, the characteristics that make them powerful swimmers (large paddle-like foreflippers and smaller, rudder-like hind flippers) also make sea turtles clumsy and virtually powerless on land.

In addition to their shells, sea turtles are armed with claws on each foreflipper, large upper eyelids to protect their eyes, and acute senses of sight and smell under water. Neither sea turtles nor land turtles have teeth, but they have well-built jaws that vary in shape according to species and diet (herbivore, carnivore or omnivore).

Females turtles have a vent called a cloaca, and the male does have a penis. The male climbs on top of the female to insert his penis in her cloaca. The female already has eggs, the male just need to fertilize them.

The first thing we can all do as a nation, is to stop using turtles as lamp shades. Its discusting and gross how people do this. In my opinion, if we didn't do that, there would be more and more leatherbacks here on Earth. If we had more leatherbacks, our national dept would deeply decrease.

Yes green sea turtles migrate. They migrate to warmer areas farther south. They start their migration during probably late September or early october. They come back from their migration around spring time

Unless you own a zoo, you shouldn't and can't buy a sea turtle...but lets say you did a sea turtle would cost tent housadn dollars or more, it depends where your buying from. :) hopefully this helps!

Many freshwater turtles in temperate climates may experience winter periods trapped under ice unable to breathe, in anoxic mud, or in water depleted of O2. To survive, these animals must not only retain function while anoxic, but they must do so for extended periods of time. Two general physiological adaptive responses appear to underlie this capacity for long-term survival. i think they dont get affected as because of their large size

Humans hunt turtles so they can eat the meat or turn it into local delicacy's, and to make the shell into ornaments that they can sell to people like tourists.
