I buy horse bales of timothy/orchard grass blend of hay or pure timothy for my pigs at Southern States -- the 2nd and 3rd cuts which are typically fed to horses are ideal for pigs too since they aren't as coarse as 1st cuts. No need to waste money spending $8~10/pound of Timothy hay at a pet store when you can get a bale for the same price or less!

Yes, you can. Line your guinea pig hutch with newspaper, then put the straw on. You can use more or less straw depending on the weather. A bedding of straw and newspaper will need changing once a week. Instead of straw, you could use wool, paper shredding or tissue paper. Instead of news paper you could use thin cardboard, scrap paper or sawdust.

This depends entirely on where you live. Guinea pigs are sensitive to cold, so you need to only put them outside during the day as the days begin to warm up, and only leave them out at night during the summer.

You'd need to use the same technique used to train a ferret to do anything else. When you play with the ferret, watch carefully to see when it's about to roll over as part of its natural play and when it's about to do so, use a vocal command such as simply saying "roll over!" If it does so, reward the ferret with something it likes, such as ferret treats. If you keep this up, the ferret will learn that it gets a reward for rolling over when it hears you say those words and will do it on command, so you'll no longer need to give it the treat.

Ferrets are more like cats than dogs in many ways, so do not expect it to do exactly what you ask every time. Whereas a well-trained dog will do what it's told every time it is told, a cat or a ferret will only do so when and if it suits them.

Your hamster could be acting 'odd' if it doesn't have enough outside of the cage time (in an exercise ball and/or even a hamster pen), or maybe for a medical reason. If a hamsters cage isn't cleaned properly it is very very very easy for them to get a disease called "wet tail". The name of the disease basically says it all. They have antibiotics in any pet stores and I even saw them in some Wal Marts. Your hamster could also possibly be dehydrated. Hamsters drink a lot of water. Kind of like humans - if humans don't drink enough water they become dehydrated and can get very ill.

Also Guinea Pig pellets even though enriched with vitamin C do not maintain adequate levels to ensure that the pigs get enough vitamin C. If vitamin C intake is inadequate parasites can invade their digestive system and cause diarrhea resulting in dehydration, weight loss, and death following very quickly. The best way to ensure adequate intake of vitamin C is to buy liquid Vitamin C (in a glass bottle that is dark brown and keep refrigerated, dark brown to prevent light from weakening the vitamin C) and give them 25 mg each day. You can't add it to water because it quickly loses potency. Use a syringe to administer it to the pig. They may not like it at first but they get used to it. It is for their own good.

It's best not to breed them, it can be dangerous for the mother and babies. Always get guinea pigs of the same sex to prevent anything from happening. Or if you have male and female guinea pigs already, get them fixed or always keep them separate. But males will start trying to mate at 3-5 weeks old, it's safest for females to have babies at about 5 months old. I wouldn't recommend doing it though.

I would NOT recommend this! guinea pigs when sick often stop eating and drinking. this is cause in the wild there is no medicine and they will die quicker that way. take your guinea pig to the vet immediatly so he/she can start feeling better. If you really can NOT do so then make sure your guinea pig has plenty of food, water and warmth, they should not be too warm however, good luck!

They can, but won't necessarily digest it well. Cats are obligate carnivores. Though, we had one domestic shorthair that enjoyed snacking on corn-on-the-cob, as well as pistachios, raspberries, sugar snap peas, peaches, bananas, winter squash, grass and catnip. We think he might have been a dumpster-diver before we got him.
