Do hamsters defecate when they're scared?
Sometimes, yes, all animals including hamsters will defecate when scared. The "fight or flight" instinct in animals when they are frightened can sometimes wreak havoc on the central nervous system and can make animals lose control over bodily functions.
Yes! hamsters will eat bugs. they lived in the wild once! and only feed them store bought meal worms and crickets. only feed them two insects at a time though because they can get diarrhea which leads to wet tail. and be aware that meal worms turn into beetles...

Can hamsters live outside in a cage?
For best health, pet rats are best kept in temperatures between 60 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. This is to avoid the respiratory ailments. Pet rats can live in colder temperatures, but their lifespan will be decreased. If it freezes, your rat might die right away, especially if they do not have adequate insulated shelter, and other rats to snuggle with. If they are just in a cage with no shelters (boxes, rags, etc) inside it, they will definitely die, unless you live in a shady tropical paradise. Direct sun on a very warm day can also overheat them. If there are wild snakes or other predators that can get through the bars, rats may be eaten, killed, or injured. A neighbor's cat might harass and terrify the rats, even if they cannot get in to physically hurt them. Animals can die of fright, and rats are very sweet and sensitive little creatures. Have their cage inside the house where it's safe and warm if you can. They're worth it! Also, it is best to always have two or more rats, because a single rat can get lonely and bored, as you are not always there to play with them, especially when they are awake at night.
Can you get HIV from a hamster bite?
A bite from a dwarf hamster isn't any worse than getting a paper cut. You should use a disinfectant just in case. You probably won't get a infection, but it is possible.
What do you do if your hamster never comes out of its bed?
Hamsters are nocturnal, which means they sleep in their nests during the day and come out at night while you are sleeping. Some hamsters are very heavy sleepers too. As long as the hamster is breathing, don't worry about it - he is definitely coming out at night for food and water. If you are concerned that your hamster may be ill, please take him to see a vet.
Hamsters have naturally bad eyesight, but there isn't a massive chance of them developing blindness, although if your hamster seems to be confused or it's eyes seem glazed over or are leaving a discharge take it to a vet immediately.
How come my winter white dwarf hamster isn't turning white?
unless u seen the pair do the deed, u will just have to observe, tiny behavioural changes such as gathering more material, building nest, eating more, and near the final few days (1-5 days at most) they get fat, easiest way to see this is look at your male/the father, and now look at the female/the mommy, and u will see, u could also near the end if you have a good bond with your hamster, carefully feel the area near the hind legs but i wouldn't recommend that as they are easily stressed and touching them when they are pregnant isn't a great thing unless u are super confident they won't struggle
How do you handle baby Syrian hamsters for the first time?
Be VERY patient with it. When you first buy it leave it for the night to settle because too much stress can cause illness (wettail etc). The next evening don't wake the hammy (lets say hes called bob) dont wake bob because he is still settling in. Wait until hes woken up and then change or fill up bobs food so he knows you wont hurt him (unless hes paranoid) then rest your hand on the floor of the cage most likely- He will sniff your hand He will climb on it If its mating he might do something else He will bite it If he bites you you will wanna kill him cos trust me it hurts but be calm and give him a treat then get your hand out the cage and then you can go ow. Anyway do the same routine every night adding on another activity- Night 3- Very gently stroke him with one of your fingers on his back. Give him a treat and say "good (hamsters name here)" like hes a dog. Night 4- Now tonight be very brave, do all the above and then scoop your hands around him and lift him out the cage (be near the cage in case he jumps) stroke and comfort him (sorry he cant comfort u) then after about a minute put him back then do the same after routine. Night 5- Tonights the hamster ball! Okay not a dance ball a hamster ball get one here- http://www.google.co.uk/products?sourceid=navclient&hl=en-GB&rlz=1T4SNYK_en-GBGB319GB298&q=hamster+ball&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=t_RnSov1G-PKjAeW--WdCw&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=6 I recomend the Space Ball, my hamsters Muffin and Lilley love them! (there children Keigan, Logan and Chloe are too young) Anyway do all the above but instead of putting him back put him in the ball. Then sit on the floor and let him run in his ball for a max. 20 mins and return him to the cage. Make him a treat celery with peanut butter and seeds is nice and give him some cool water. Night 6- Tonights the end of hammy training if you are not planning to mate him/her. Do all of above (put in hammy ball for 10 mins) then lift him out and put him in a bath tub (no water) and get in too. Let him sniff you, pick him up and stroke him. Then give him lots of fuss and clean out his cage. So i hope that helps-Do night 5 or 6 every night so he won't forget you and soon you will have a strong bond!

How do you spoil your hamster?
The best way to take care of a hamster:
FOOD: Give them a good nutritious mix of pellets and seeds, the best seed pack brand would be fiestamax.
WATER: Give them fresh water about every 3-5 days.
CAGE: Clean it once a week, with new shavings, and arrange the cage exactly how it was before so the hamster won't be stressed.
TOYS: Give them a good variety of chew toys, like a limestone tube, or a mineral
stone, maybe blocks of wood, or apple tree sticks. You can get these all at a pet store in the hamster/small pet section.
CARE: Be nice to the hamster, to coax it into your hand, have a yogurt treat, or some seeds, and put your hand at the bottom of the cage and have your hamster sniff it. if it hops onto your hand, eating the treat, slowly lift your hand up to pet and hold the hamster.
Keep in mind that a hamster doesn't always like to be held, so hold them at the
best time you think is possible.

What is this big red bump on the back of the hamster's leg?
If he fell, and then you found a red spot on his back, he may have internal bleeding and this is a sign of the bleeding on the inside. If you think that maybe he bruised himself on his wheel, or on tubes or whatever, then its probably just a bruise. But if none of this has happened, then its just a spot, keep him warm and conforted as its probably nothing to him but give him your usual love :)

What should be doing for a hamster not to die during travelling?
For car transportation gather some small cups with tight fitting lids and place each crab in its own cup. The cups should be large enough that the crab can turn around and take a few steps and should have some substrate from the tank. The lids need an X or holes in them so the crab can breathe. Place the cups in a corner of the tank to they do not get jostled to much on the car. When you reach your destination remove the crabs from the cups as soon as possible and place in the tank. This is the least stressful method I have found. If you have any questions or need more information on transproting crabs or on crab care in general please visit www.hermitcrabassociation.com
