Is a subdural hemorrhage a terminal disease?
A subdural hematoma (hemorrhage) is usually the result of a serious head injury. When it occurs this way it's called an "acute" subdural hematoma. Acute subdural hematomas are among the deadliest of all head injuries. The blood fills the brain area very rapidly and compresses the brain tissue. This often results in brain tissue injury or infarction and many times even death. In the elderly, subdural hematomas can also be a result of a slight knock to the head or falls.

How long after a head injury can a child fall asleep?
When a child has bumped their head, to a point where you may be concerned about a concussion, then you need to call your pediatrician and seek advice. There are important signs and symptoms to watch for in a child with a potential head-injury, and he or she should be taken to the emergency room immediately if they appear. They include: # Loss of consciousness (even if brief) # Seizures # Confusion # Weakness or lethargy # Vomiting # Changes in mentation or personality # Intractible crying # Numbness or tingling in extremities If the head injury was the result of a fall greater than the child's standing height, or the result of external force (being bumped by a car or pushed against a hard surface), then summon your local Emergency Medical Services and leave the child in the position he or she fell, unless they cannot breathe. If you need to clear the airway, do so very carefully and with assistance to keep the head and neck inline with the rest of the body. Keep the child calm and still, as they need to be properly immobilized by the EMS crew to prevent further injury to head and possibly the spine.

Can you shower after receiving a minor head wound?
I would say yes.
An open wound may sting a bit, but it is always a good idea to keep it clean.
Be gentle with the shampoo and dont rub the wounded area too much. Let the water flowing do the main work.
It may freshen you up a bit to have a shower after a minor head wound.
Be gentle when drying your hair afterwards. a hairdryer is a good idea. Your wound should not be allowed to be wet for an extencive period after a shower. That would make it an ideal growthplace for bacterias.
After you have dried your hair, you could/should put some antibacterial powder like bacemycine talkum over your wound. (this if it is an open wound, otherwise no need.)
Why cant you sleep after a head injury?
It's not so much that a patient who has suffered a head injury cannot sleep, it's that depending on the injury, neurological tests need to be done. In the nursing world, we call them "neuro checks" and involve the patient answering questions. We need to determine if the patient is oriented to person (who they are), place (where they are, such as specific hospital, person's home, etc.) and time (the month, day and year). Since obviously this is harder with young children who are either not verbal or may not know the answers, we awaken them frequently and make sure they give age-appropriate answers, and are not too "sleepy" to awaken fully and maybe eat or interact with mom and dad. Neuro checks also involve observing the pupils for being reactive to light, and several other types of tests that involve neurological reactions. The length of time neuro checks go on for depends on the type and mechanism of injury, and if any of the neuro checks come back abnormal.

Can Arnold Chiari be caused by a head injury?
You should ask the doctor, but I have Chiari 2 and it was caused by Spina Bifida. Chiari 1 is also something that develops while the baby is unborn. So I don't think either type can be caused by a brain injury, at least I found nothing about it online. But still I'd ask the doctor if I were you. Certainly brain injury can cause a problem with hydrocephalus, fluid building up in the brain.
Yes
How do you keep a patient awake with head injuries?
Most people with head injuries still maintain their hearing abilities and as much as they can't open their eyes, move or speak, they can hear you just fine. The best thing to do is talk to them; tell them things that always interest them so that they can concentrate, otherwise if you talk boring, you'll be soothing them to sleep more. Touch is very important; squeeze theirs hands, run your hands on their hair, faces (skin) at some point they might reciprocate either with a wince or moving their fingers. Its very important to keep their minds active at-least an hour each day, it helps with their recovery.
That is an extremely difficult question to answer because no parts of the brain control one thing, really every part of the brain contributes to everything (though some contribute to some things more than others). For example, if someone gets deterieration in a part of the brain that renders them unable to talk normally, they might be able to sing. The human brain is the most interesting thing in this section of the galaxy. Everybody should study it because they wil understand others and themselves better.
