Yes, anyone and everyone can get lice no matter what economical class you are in. Not many African Americans get lice because of their hair type.

No! No matter what you do your going to have to comb through your hair. Even if you buy the medicated stuff from walmart, it doesn't kill the eggs, so you'll just have lice again if you don't comb them out. That's why most medication says to use once and then again in a week or two to kill any newly hatched eggs.

Only if your head freezes, too. The best treatment for head lice:

1. Buy a commercial shampoo designed especially for that purpose. That's not so hard. There are several brands available at Walgreens and CVS. A double treatment runs around $15 - $25. Don't go with the cheapest one and don't be stingy in the application.

2. Apply the shampoo - as directed - to EVERYONE in the household.

3. COMB the hair (on every head) with a FINE toothed comb, under a bright light and magnifying glass. (really. Do this or the little critters will get away from you). As you comb, frequently dip the comb into a glass of alcohol and swish it around to clean it.

4. RINSE, RINSE, RINSE the hair.

5. Go back to the bright light and magnifier and check for any lice or nits that you might have missed. DO NOT GIVE UP until you are SURE the hair is clean.

Recent articles have said that it is not necessary to do the whole house extermination and throw away the bed clothes and couch, etc. They are called HEAD lice for a reason. Having just dealt with a severe infestation in a home where I did charity visits, I tend to agree with that. IF you get all the lice AND nits out of the hair and kill them in the alcohol, then immediately wash clothing that you and the lice carrier are wearing you should be just fine. Good Luck!

I tried this, the vinegar did kill them, wet your hair in the vinegar and leave a shower cap on for couple of hours, not only did it kill them, the nits dislodged and came off into the comb very easly

If you have lice, your family will too. Everybody will have to use the over the counter lice shampoo and lice comb to kill the lice and then comb them out. You can find it at places like Wal-mart or Rite-aid or Walgrens, etc. Then all the bedding needs to be washed in hot soapy water. And use a dryer if you have one or go the the laundry mat to use one there. The warm air of the dryer is an important part of getting rid of the lice from bedding. And make sure all clothes,worn while in contact with the lice, and espiecially hats are washed like the bedding.

Go to your local drug store and buy a good set of lice combs. Flip your hair over and start the comb at the nape of your neck and go up both sides. This is were head lice usually start their breeding grounds so if you find nits and those creepy little bugs there you can bet that you need a treatment.
