How can you get a headache to go away without taking any pills?

Depending on the headache laying in a dark room with some type of light pressure on the eyes and sinus (ex: your arm draped over your eyes or something similar) and placing an object under the back of your neck to tilt the head slightly back eleviating pressure on the lower back of your head. A neck massager works wonders. Alot of the pressure built up in a headache seems to derive from optical strain and muscle tension in the neck...usually where the lower part of your head meets with your neck. What is the youngest you can have a migraine?

Any age, although the teen years to the early 20s are the time where many people begin to have their first attacks.

Children can get migraines. Usually, when children get migraines the main symptom is vomiting. Sometimes after vomiting, the migraine will begin to go away. Parents are more likely to think that the child has a stomach bug than to think that their child has migraines.

Children are harder to diagnose, especially young children, because it is hard to get them to list the symptoms that usually lead to diagnosis (unilateral throbbing head pain, sensitivity to light, etc..)

Puberty or the end of puberty can be the age where many migraine sufferers begin to have their first attacks, especially for women. Also for women, other times of great hormone changes can cause migraines to begin (pregnancy, post-childbirth, menopause).

Oxycodone for Migraine?

Sometimes. It depends on what those other migraine medications are.

If you are talking about migraine specific medications, such as Imitrex (or anything where the ending of the generic version is "triptan") then yes.

If you are taking about preventative medications used to treat migraines, then also - yes.

Midrin contains acetaminophen. Fioricet with codeine also contains acetaminophen. Oxycodone is often prepared as Percocet, which has acetaminophen too. If you have been taking Excedrin or any Tylenol product, you need to be aware of this as well. People do die from liver failure from taking too much acetaminophen. The limit is 4000mg in a day, or 3000mg if you are taking it daily.

What things can be done to ease a headache?

The best thing i have found is washing the head with HOT water. It eases a tension headache by relaxing the muscles and a migraine by dilating the blood vessels. Also, drinking a lot of cold water will help. Pills such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and Advil are what some call "sugar pills", though they do ease some pain, water does all the real stuff. Another way to ease a headache (but temporarily unless done properly) is finding pressure points. There are two that are known to work best: The thumb joint on the left hand, and the back of the neck. The thumb joint's pressure point is right on the skin that looks a bit like webbing on the upper half of your hand. The neck's pressure points are just under the skull at the top of your neck on the softest spots.

Thumb Joint: Simply squeeze the pressure point for about 2 minutes, and slowly release the pressure. Your headache should almost instantly go away. Neck: (you may need someone to do this with you) have a scarf or bandanna (or something that wraps around something) and this will need to be snug against your forehead and tied/held in the back. Have a friend hold it for you. Then have your friend gently begin to push their thumbs onto the soft pressure points, then stay that way for about 30 to 50 seconds. The headache should slowly go away.

Should you eat cold stuff when you have a sore throat?

No food is per se "bad" for a cold. However, dairy products can increase the sensation of stuffiness or mucus production. You will feel somewhat better by avoiding them for the duration of the cold.

What could cause numbness on the right side of the head going into your neck when you lie on your left side?

Subluxation could be the cause. It is very important that you visit a Chiropractor to assess the problem. You can get x-rays and a detailed physical of your nervous system, spine, and overall health. A subluxation is when your spine is misaligned which causes either pinched nerves, damaged nerves, damaged discs, etc. Your nerves are like the life line to your organs. If it is pinched or not allowed to function 100%, then it is like pinching a water hose. Everyone can benefit from Chiropractic, especially you at this time.

Why does fever cause headaches?

Not just your forehead. Your entire body temperature goes up when you have a fever, but people traditionally use a hand against the forehead to tell if someone is running hot.

Don't take Tylenol for more than a day or so! I have migraines and took a Tylenol containing migraine medication for several days in a row while I was on Coumadin. At the end of that time, my pro level was 6! Yikes! Afterwards, I read that it is not a well publicised fact that Tylenol (acimetaphene) has this effect taken with Coumadin. Ask your medical provider or blood management nurse what you can take.
