How long is the biggest hermit crab?
The Lobster Institute site says that the largest lobster in history was caught off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1977 and weighed 44 pounds, according to the Guiness Book of Records. But the 1970s are relatively recent, following many years of people eating lobster.
Before the 1900s, very few people ate lobster, and a lot of very large critters were crawling around. Because of their low metabolism and few predators that would want to tackle them after reaching a good size, they could have very long lifespans, continuing to grow all the while.
My wife and I now are in our 70s. When we were in our 30s, we lived on the East Coast, and enjoyed many summer trips in New England. I distinctly remember seeing a lobster's approximately 6-foot-long exoskeleton mounted in a restaurant on one of those trips, and the lobster's quoted original weight was 170+ lbs. No exaggeration!
The description accompanying the exoskeleton stated that it had been captured in the late 1800s.
No, they are scavengers/detritivores but they are not decomposers, Detritivores obtain nutrients from consuming decomposing animal and plant material in addition to feces.

I found this on the "Louisiana Foods Seafood Distributer" website. "Cormorants are a well known pesky crawfish predator, but now there is another critter out there feasting on crawfish: raccoons. The number of raccoons in southern Louisiana apparently has skyrocketed over the last decade, ever since the region's fur industry went bust. The masked menaces turn over crawfish traps in shallow ponds and even haul up the lines attached to traps in deeper waters to eat both bait and crawdads." Homo Sapiens eat crawdads.
I strongly don't suggest feeding your hermit crab BACON!
Because:
- The salt (unless you buy sea salted bacon i guess) can kill your crab!
- Don't you want more delicious bacon for yourself?

How do you get your pet hermit crab to switch shells?
First of all, you should make sure it actually needs to change shells because it has become too big for it.
To make your hermit crab switch shells, place ONE crab in a small container that the cannot escape out of, put a shell in the container that you would like them to switch into. Turn off all the lights, and have a dark quiet room for them to switch in. Peek on your crab every hour.
Well in the cage you should have more than three shells so whenever it grows it can just change when it wants to.The crab will change when it wants to, when it grows bigger it should change when it cant fit in that shell anymore. Make sure that the shells you put in the cage are bigger than its old one.

How do you find a hermit crab if its lost URGENT?
if its lost but you think its still in the tank, they love to dig and it is somewhere in the floor of your tank. hermit crabs are escape artists, so if you have a branch at the top of the tank, it would climb up and fall out the edge. if its lost and is not in the tank, theres not really much to do except watch the floor carefully and put a lid on the top of the tank so it doesnt happen again, or the crab could just be in another shell.
first of all, there should already be a lid on the cage so you wouldn't have this problem! but, if the hermit crab got out, i would suggest closing the door to the room so it stays in the room and put food on the floor. if the crab has a favorite type of food, that would be better to put on the floor. if that doesnt work, start up a search party and find that little sucker! good luck.
I lost mine 3 times in one day. We looked everywhere. They are nocturnal so we turned off the lights in one room and waited. The crab finally came to the dark room and we found it. If this dosent work put food (tuna or peanut butter) on foil and if the crab goes to get food you will hear it on the foil.
What does water hermit crabs look like?
Land Hermit Crabs consume fresh water. It is suggested by some pet stores to have two watering dishes. One for bottled fresh water and the other for bottled salt water. How do you take care of baby hermit crabs?
NO NO NO NO NO! WRONG! I will answer.
Hermit crabs need a place to hide in. So like a hermie hut or anything that they can hide in and be away from others. You need a food bowl and a water bowl. You need water that's in a bottle NOT tap water. You need to have the correct substrate so like jungle bedding, Gravel, sand. Don't do your whole tank with Gravel they can't burrow. You need a spray bottle to mist them and keep humidity up and a temp gauge and humidity gauge to see what the temp is. Your tank needs to be 70-85 degrees F. To help keep humidity up you can get a undertank heater. If you do get an undertank heater you need to put it on the side of your tank not the bottom. You don't want it on the bottom of your tank because if a crab burrows down and gets to close they could get over heated. You need salt water which you can get at your local pet store so like Petsmart, Petco, or any other like pet store. Give them salt water once a week. I would recommend HBH hermit crab salt. You can get oceananic. You may want a sponge in your water bowl to help with humidity. You need something to climb so like drift wood, rocks, or choya wood. You also need some extra shells. 2 smaller then your crab. 2 bigger then your crab and 2 the same size of your crab.
to take care of a hermit crab you need a castel or a thing to hide in . you need a food bowl and extra shells for them make sure u have moss so they can sleep or relax in it .hermit carbs like attenchen so watch them alot i recommed not to pick them up too much !! make sure you have food and water change or clean tub ever 5 days give them salt

Is it safe to eat crab legs with black spots?
Yes.
DON'T EAT BAD FOOD! If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck and swims like a duck, it's probably a duck.
Any food that looks and/or smells bad should be considered suspect.
When in doubt, throw it out!
If you mean "Pinchers" yes, i believe every crab will be born and will live with a claw. It sometimes can fall of or detatch at times, but i think they can reproduce claws and legs when it molts, i dont now if every crab molts, but i do know hermit crabs molt.
This is someone else...actually it is pincers you jackass. Just looked all over to find out if its "pincers" or "pinchers"...and its pincers sooo.........
How can you give water to your hermit crab?
There are these tiny little sea sponges you can find in little clear baggies hanging up in the fish/reptile care and supplies section of any Walmart and you just soak them with water and set them in the cage. You can also place the sponge in a small jar lid after you wet it if you don't want all the surrounding sand to get wet. You just replace the sponge every few days when it gets drier.
If a crab were to lose its legs it would probably would not be able to move around and die.
Hermit crabs do not 'go to the bathroom'. In other words hermit crabs DO NOT POO.
I have had hermit crabs, and I know they definitely don't poo.
Hermit crabs use all the energy and nutrients from their food and turn it into vitamins for the body. Hermit crabs are great pets, as there is no stinky poo to clean out!!!
