After eatiing meals you always get the hicups?
If you happen to eat to fast, a muscle under your diaphram pulls down, letting more air into your lungs. Theres a sort of flap in there that will snap shut if it thinks too much air is getting into your lungs.
What does it mean if you hiccup a lot?

Why do I have hiccups after eating?
Simple physics and biology...
When you eat something, it need to be digested... the secretion in your mouth begins to breakdown the food as you are chewing it. The stomach also churns out acids and other digesting chemicals...
once broken down, the nutrients are the absorbed by the blood in the small intestines... the more food you eat the more blood required to get the nutrients.
You feel cold because the blood is reduced from the skin area and diverted to your tummy... less blood means less energy means less heat...
After a while you'll feel all glowy and satisfied... after the blood's done its work and now it brings the nutrients to your muscles and you'll feel warmer... Cheers..

Why are the hiccups called hiccups?
Hiccups are caused by uncontrolled spasms in the diaphragm (the thin piece of tissue located at the base of the lungs that makes them expand and contract). The phrenic nerve (located in the neck) controls the diaphragm and causes these spasms. When the phrenic nerve triggers a spasm the diaphragm contracts violently, resulting in a sudden inhaling of air aka a hiccup. The only full proof method I've found to get rid of hiccups is the following:
Step 1: Inhale deeply
Step 2: Hold the breath
Step 3: Drink one glass of water while holding the breath
Step 4: After drinking the water exhale extremely slowly
Step 5: Should hiccups not go away repeat steps 1-4
Another way is:
Step 1: fill your mouth with water (don't swallow)
Step 2: try to touch your toes (Try)
Step 3: then swallow if it doesn't work try it again
A tumor or infection in your central nervous system or damage to your central nervous system as a result of trauma can disrupt your body's normal control of the hiccup reflex.
Which antipsychotic is also used for treating intractable hiccups?
Promethazine.
*to memorize: remember the letter "P" for "Promethazine", and "P" for "pruritis"
Is hiccuping normal to a newborn?
Hiccup is usually normal in newborn babies. == Hiccuping is VERY common in newborns and is not harmful. Sometimes gently rubbing the neck area from the chin to the sternum (up & down, not side to side or in circles) will relax the muscle that is causing the hiccup.
not sure is this isscientifically correct but you know
A hiccup is when you your intercostal muscles (the muscle in-between your ribs) have a spasm and it courses your diafram to move up and down which forces air out
I hope this has helped xx I am only 13 so sorry if it isn't very good xx but i tried xx
Can scaring somebody get rid of there hiccups?
Many believe it is just a myth that this helps but I've used it and it always made the person stop hiccuping. The scientific reason for this is that, during a scare, most people either scream or gasp sharply. Doing so is said to stretch the diaphragm (which is spasming causing the hiccup in the first place) and, it is believed, to allow trapped air out or back into the normal passage of breathing. (Not sure about that last part)
Whatever the case, I cure my friends hiccups this way. It helps them and...it's fun! XD
If you hiccup during pregnancy does your baby hiccup too?
Yes, babies begin hiccuping late in the first trimester or early in the second, although they are typically not big enough to be felt by the mother at this stage. Once the baby is further along in its development, a mother will be able to notice the hiccups, which feels like small rhythmic movements. Hiccups can also be seen via ultrasound.
In general, things that irritate the diaphragm cause hiccups. Examples include: (1) eating very quickly; (2) eating something that is hot in tandem with drinking a cold liquid such as water, milk, etc,: (3) sobbing or crying; (4) eating very spicy or hot (high temperature) food as well as extreme coughing and/or laughter.
Are hiccups a side effect of oxycodone?
No side effects per say but you'll feel the withdrawals if you don't stop taking it by reducing your dosage incrementally. Unless you like withdrawals.
Easiest way to reduce your level is to cut your pill into quarters or halves, then reduce it by 1/4 or 1/2 (depending on how much withdrawal symptoms you have afterward) each week or 2 weeks, and keep dropping it by the same amount until you can stop.
If you try and stop cold turkey you're in for a rough time - it's not recommended.
Is hiccups an early sign of pregnancy?
Possibly, but it's not a very reliable symptom. Many people get frequent hiccups occasionally and aren't pregnant. If you are later for your period, take a home test. If you don't want to wait that long, go see a doctor.
Hiccups are caused when you have contractions of the diaphragm. The diaphragm is what makes your lungs take in oxygen and expel it.
What over the counter medicine can be used for hiccups?
Hiccups are spasmodic rises of the diaphragm beneath the lungs, usually caused by nerve stimulus or digestive irregularities. They can usually be stopped by increasing the carbon dioxide content of the lungs (breathing in and out of a paper bag, for example). Drinking water or consuming certain foods may stop hiccups, when stomach irritation is the location of the cause.
Hiccup Cures
*If you notice ALL the answers regarding drinking, swallowing upside down, singing hanging from an antique willow bush at noon on Tuesday while sipping wine,...the thing they all have in common is the need to hold your breath while disguised as some other nonsense behavior. Somewhere beneath the diaphragm is a nerve called the vagus nerve that causes spasms in the diaphragm and causes hiccups. The cure is carbon dioxide. Enough repetitions of holding your breath builds up enough carbon dioxide and stops hiccups.
This is the most consistent method for getting rid of hiccups. This only works though if you catch it early though.
In severe cases, there is a surgical procedure where they clip the nerve that makes you hiccup.

Why do you hiccup when you eat?
You're probably talking about choking. Choking appears when an object goes down the wrong tube. You see, your esophagus and bronchular tube cross. Normally, when you're eating, two flaps cover up and seal the bronchular tube from the esophagus so the food goes down only one tube. But, when you're choking, you swallow too fast for your brain to react and close up the bronchular tube, so the food leaks in and you start choking to get it out. Windpipe is another name for your bronchular tube. If it isn't what's happening in what I just described, you probably have an allergy to some foods and you have an allergic reaction to them, which may be choking, getting a rash, or fainting.
Answer
You hiccup because your diaphram spazzez. There is no proven evidence that hiccups are caused by a lack of carbon dioxide in the blood. At this moment in time, no actual cause is known for the cause of hiccups. Its because you swallow air and the nerves, senses, and muscles want to push it out. So they PUSH on the sides of your stomach and the air comes back up your throat./ Therefore this makes a funny sound when te air is travelling up your throat and that funny noise is a hiccup. This is natural and if you hiccup it doesn't stop for a while it does NOT mean you are sick or ill. Do not consider this as an illnes.
