Why is jumping with two feet not allowed in High Jump?
Jumping from two feet is not allowed since it is possible to perform a gymnastic tumble ending with a final bounce from two feet which would permit a higher jump. Basically it's limited to one foot to maintain the event as it is currently known, but the high jump is NOT the highest a human can jump unaided, and so it not a 'pure' event like the long jump, or 100m.
How do you find out how high you should be able to jump?
At a track and field meet you can participate in the high jump competition where you run in a "J" formation at a bar held up by 2 standards, and is held up above a 2 foot mat. The bar is set at a certain height and is increased by about 2 inches every round. You will get 3 attempts at every height and are out after you knock the bar off 3 times using up your 3 attempts for that height. Another way to calculate how high you can jump is to find your vertical jump height. This one I don't know too much about, but I will tell you what I do know. You measure the difference in the height of your head, your standing height and the highest point your head reaches.
