To get your horse's health up, first of all make sure it is not to fat or skinny. You can do this by clicking on "feed my horse". If your horse is a foal, it will gain health as it grows. You have to groom, feed and water your horse every day. If your horse's health is drastically low (15% or less) you must use a black orchid or your horse could die. If it's already 24:00, then there's no use trying, it won't work, but if you have the time, you can stroke it or groom it and the morale will go up. Also giving it carrots, apples or radishes and letting it out in the field or in it's box will boost the moral.

As of 8 February 2012, Howrse has changed the karma system. All players have a maximum of 10 points and players will lose karma for not following the rules. Losing karma means that one will lose privileges on the game such as access to the forums and the ability to private message. Karma can be regained every thirty days after loss of it. New players start with ten points.

Riding levels run from 1 - 10 on Howrse, the same as achievements. There is no level 20.

Place your mouse pointer over the house icon at the top of the screen and click on the button showing the heads of two horses grooming each other. This will display a page with all your horse's names and affixes, a head-only picture of each one, and some info in symbol forms (equestrian centre = in board and lodging, conjoined male and female symbols = pregnant, horseshoe = worked but not sleeping, zzz = put to bed for the night, hammer = for sale). Under the horse's name are three grey arrows. Click on the arrows. It will reveal a row of symbols. From left to right: See this horse's genealogical (family) tree, see this horse's offspring, rename this horse, change affix (only if you are the original breeder) and change this horse's breeding farm. Click on rename this horse (the text will come up when you hold your mouse over the symbol). A box will appear. Type the new name into the box and click OK.

There are a lot of ways of raising the horse's energy on Howrse. You only need to get it above 5%. If the horse goes to bed with 5% energy, it will wake up the next day with about 20% energy and low health and morale, but it will survive. Your horse must go to bed before midnight, or 24:00 in its history. No actions will be allowed after this time. If it is midnight there is no chance for your horse other than using the Black Orchid. The Black Orchid can be bought at the black market. It costs 1 pass and restores your horse to full health, energy and morale. If it is before midnight and any of these actions have not been done, do them now: Stroke your horse, feed a carrot, feed a turnip, give it water, use a salt stone (almost no energy, provides the best energy when energy is high). If these have all been done, open the Feeding box and give your horse concentrates. This won't give much energy as it works best when the horse has high energy.
