With the recent death of Christopher Kelly (51) of an apparent Aspirin Overdose, we are reminded that the lowly Aspirin, if used improperly can lead to death. The details surrounding the death of one of the key players of the former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's legal woes are still sketchy, but according to Law Enforcement, Aspirin overdose is the apparent cause of death.
First prepared in 1853 by the French chemist Charles Frederic Gerhardt, and in1899 marketed around the world by Bayer, aspirin remained very popular until the introduction of acetaminophen (Tylonol) in 1956 and Ibuprofen in 1969. Today aspirin's uses include being used as a preventative treatment for heart attacks and strokes.
It is still very popular and can be found in most medicine cabinets in either in its own form, or as an ingredient in such products as Alka Seltzer, Ecotrin, and Excedrin. It is also found in prescription drugs such as Percodan.
Aspirin overdose comes in two forms, Acute, and Chronic. In an acute overdose, someone has intentionally, or accidently taken a very large dose. Symptoms of acute Aspirin overdose include nausea, stomach pain, and vomiting. About 2% of the people that suffer an acute aspirin overdose die.
In a chronic overdose, a daily dose of aspirin has built up in the body over time and has lead to the overdose. The chronic overdose is generally seen in people whose kidneys are not working correctly, or are dehydrated. Chronic overdoses may include fatigue, fever, confusion, collapse, rapid heart beat, uncontrollable rapid breathing. About 25% of the people that suffer a chronic aspirin overdose die.
A large overdose can cause ringing in the ears, temporary deafness, hyperactivity, dizziness, drowsiness, seizures, and coma.
The cause of death in most cases of Aspirin overdose is noncardiogenic pulmonary edema, a condition where fluids build up in the lungs.
How many ibuprofen does it take to die?
On most cases it is usually around 200mg (standard OTC) per pound of body weight. Equalling 100 = 100 tablets, Possibly less but this is a safe bet. If with 600mg tablets the dose would be 1 per 3 pounds, meaning 150lbs = 50 pills, and if 800mg tablets, then would be 150lbs = 37.5 (so 38).
To overdose on ibuprofen is difficult, but possible, as for migraines the doctors will give you 45 a month, with refills usually.
The overdose to be lethal is usually at these levels, for a nonfatal overdose, just a handful on an empty stomach; Then will give you terrible sets of pain and vomiting for hours.
To die on ibuprofen accidentally is at the odds of being at Columbine, Virginia tech, or others while you are the main target, not very likely. But be careful and stay alive!

People who say dogs can take ibuprofen are wrong. DO NOT give your dog ibuprofen. I sure you as a 16 plus year experienced veterinarian, dogs or cats cannot metabolize Advil or Tylenol or any NSAID for humans. You can seriously hurt your pet if you give them any human meds. I assure you I have seen many cases of dogs sick from owners giving even just one Advil or one Tylenol. animals metabolize (process) medications differently then humans, their liver can get damaged immedieltly. Please see your veterinarian before you give your pet any human medication what so ever. Trying to save money by giving over the counter meds like this will only cost you more money because your pet will become sick. Dogs and cats can't tell you they are sick, and most owners are unaware of their pet being sick till their pet is extremely sick, costing the owner more money. Be smart, see your vet if you think your pet needs any kind of medications. Cats especially can't take anything.

Yes. Endocet does contain acetominophen, however, so I wouldn't take any additional Tylenol or any pain reliever that contains acetaminophen, unless you have no liver problems and are monitoring how much Tylenol you are getting in a day. For an adult with no liver problems, the maximum is 4g. So if your endocet tablets contain 500mg each for example, and you are taking 8 a day, then don't take anymore Tylenol. If you are only taking 4 a day, then you could potentially take up to 4 Tylenol a day. Ibuprofen is fine to take with both.

Aspirin, Ibuprofen and the like are highly acidic and even on the own can cause indigestion and stomach problems. Together, the side effects just multiply.

You can mix the two because they are not the same medication. However I would not take anything else with acetaminophen (AKA Tylenol) such as NyQuil or Neoproxin (AKA Motrin) You should always consult a doctor before you do anything with medication.
