In Vitro Fertilization

In vitro fertilization is a process by which egg cells are fertilized by sperm outside the womb, then placed back into the womb. IVF is a major treatment in infertility when other methods have failed.

301 Questions

Can an egg be taken directly from the ovary?

No, an egg cannot be taken directly from the ovary in a natural or practical sense. The process of retrieving eggs typically involves ovarian stimulation and a surgical procedure called transvaginal ultrasound aspiration, where eggs are collected from mature follicles. This process is done in a controlled medical environment, usually for purposes like in vitro fertilization (IVF). Direct extraction from the ovary without such procedures is not feasible or safe.

What are the chances of twins in test tube babies?

yes...fraternal twins (different ova and different sperm). although it is also possible to generate identical twins I suppose (single ovum and single sperm). I have no idea what the statistics on this are however.

Although if you're *really* asking "can I *force* a fertilized ovum to split into two and generate a set of identical twins?" then I would have to say "Not likely".

Yes, an ovum can be forced to split. The above information is outdated.

How long it takes for next period after ivf faliure?

I'm sorry for your loss. Hang in there! The arrival of your next period will depend on how regular you are, and what medications were used during your IVF cycle. Talk to your reproductive endocrinologist for advice specific to your situation.

What is invitro?

when fertilization takes place outside of the human body. example when the sperm and egg are mixed in a lab in a dish.

What is in vitro development?

When you see the phrase "in vitro" it means 'in glass'. This is in contrast to "in vivo" which means 'in the living system'.
Thus organic chemistry began when a German chemist made urea 'in vitro' - in the laboratory. Prior to this discovery, it was thought that chemicals/compounds found in living systems, like urea, could ONLY be made by living systems.

In other usage, you may have seen "in vitro fertilization", which means that an egg was fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, rather than in the bodies of living organisms. An important example is the Panda. Apparently these bears have trouble getting pregnant and so many recent baby pandas are the result of "in vitro fertilization", and then implantation of the fertilized egg into the mother panda.

P.S. Laboratory experiments do not always involve the use of glass now, so technically
some "in vitro" work is really "in plastic".

Why is doxy-1 l-dr forte is used for IVF treatment?

Doxy-1 ldr forte is used as a cure of any kind of or a perticular kind of infection

Can I use a in vitro pregnancy test even if I am not trying an in vitro pregnancy?

Yes. In vitro means, "in glass" or "outside of the body", and In vitro pregnancy test is a test that is performed "outside" of the human body. In vitro fertilization is egg fertilization that is performed outside of the body. All home pregnancy tests are "in vitro".

How much did nadya pay for ivf?

Nadya Suleman, also known as "Octomom," reportedly spent around $100,000 on her in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. She underwent multiple IVF cycles before successfully conceiving octuplets in 2009. The high cost of IVF includes medications, procedures, and consultations, which can add up significantly.

Is there any pain during embryo implantation after ivf was performed?

The question itself is slightly confusing, but here goes: If you mean the embryo implanted and then pain was felt, well it is hard to say, as you would need to know that the pain was the result of the embryo implanting itself which would realistically happen a few days later (after embryo transfer) and as a human, one would surely be guessing!

If however, you mean; was there any pain after the embryos were left inside - then I would have to say, for me, yes. The pain was unbearable and I could not move my legs. I remained in foetal position in bed all night on the day of my embryo transfer. My abdomen was swollen and I wasn't allowed to take any strong pain killers. I am convinced this is why my first cycle did not work. This and a few other contributing factors.

As I was in pain for most of the 'journey,' it would be hard for me to say if the worst pains I had that evening were solely down to the embryo transfer alone. Possibly the fertility drugs needed to be purer to make my system less reactive. I had too many follicles - 35. Borderline OHSS, but they continued my treatment. When I think back now; it should've been abandoned. They had no problems abandoning my 2nd cycle/go, as this time it was our money, not the NHSs.

Just wanted to post in response to this ^^

I have just had my embryos transfered back and I felt no pain at all. I think this poster was unlucky as the process should not be a painful one. I didn't even require any sedation but neither did I have OHSS. As for implantation pains, they say that you may feel twinges as your Uterus contracts when the embryos are put back in. The embryos should implant 5 - 7 days after fertilization.

Another response from me: I guess it varies from patient to patient. As the above shows some have a lot of pain and discomfort, some none at all. Same goes for the extraction of the eggs, it was slightly uncomfortable for me yet the other two women being there at the same time were in so much pain they had requested a mild morphine drip to take the edge off. The transfer itsself is SAID by experts not to cause much discomfort, and it would seem more likely women experiencing pain, cramps etc. do so more because of the ovary stimulating fertility drugs than the transfer or nesting of the embryo...

For test tube baby is it the problem of male or female?

A test tube baby is another option if the couple cannot have a baby in the usual way. Reasons vary for the issues that would call for this method of conception, but it could be that the combination of this man and this woman will not result in a baby without assistance.

How can you differentiate between invivo and invitro hydrolysis?

The words tell you where the hydrolysis (breading down of water) occurs. Invivo means within an organism and its' cells.

Invitro means "in glass". This reaction would not be studied in a cell or in a living organism but in a test tube or a petri dish.
