It's hard to tell because Hofner changed this guitar pretty frequently so it depends what model of senator you have. Any way, It's a really great guitar. It depends in what condition the guitar is, but most of them sounds really good and also the neck is pretty comfortable so its easy to play. But usually vintage Hofners goes in a range of between $800/$900 up to about $3000 for the fancier Hofner Committee.
Unless there's actual proof (Signature, photo or video clip to compare) that the drum kit belonged to John Walton from the band 13th Floor Elevators, it will only be worth as much as its condition allows it to be or its demand by a collector for that brand. If it can be proved that the drum kit in fact did belong to John Walton from the band 13th Floor Elevators, a collector might make you a substantial offer for it.

What are the best drum-kits on the market?
That's hard to say since there are sooooo many drum makers out there. First, you have the mass-produced companies (TAMA Pearl,Yamaha, etc.), then the semi-custom companies (DW, Noble and Cooley, Ayotte) then, your smaller "uber-custom" companies (Joyful Noise, Moon, Thumper) that will make each drum to your individual specs.
Do a Google search for "Custom Drums" and you will find a multitude of small custom builders. Prices will range from the hundreds to the thousands.
I think the only way you can determine the "best" is what sounds the best to you. Although the better the craftsmanship will produce a better quality instrument, there isn't in my opinion a "best drumkit".

i have one. sounds great. herd they are jap. made but would not trade for a martin for sure. i have played many an acoustic and very rarely does any come across the sound of these. i do think they are mahogany tops, swamp ash sides. beauty of an instrument. $250-350 easy enough

It's pretty good for it's price. I got a $99 one and it's very responsive on the upper register and still plays out on the lower one. It has a stiff construction though and an awful a flat (at least the one I have) and it isn't exactly even pitches throughout. Otherwise it's not actually that bad, but of course you need to know how to play with it or know how to adjust from instrument to instrument. I would never use this full time professionally, but to play around with or for a gig or two with a lot of high shrills maybe.
The most important thing is are you good enough to make anything that comes your way sound at least decent, if not good?

the reason why people get screw bells sometimes is to find different kinds of metal bells to get different sounds. there can be 2 different kinds of metals 2get 2 different kinds of tone. The truth is, it really doesn't matter if you get a screw bell or a fixed bell because even if you're not going to get different kinds of metals it still looks cool to have a screw bell. i have a screw bell but both the body of the horn and the bell are rosebrass and it still sounds nice
