If you have a compatible motherboard then this will work. But I highly doubt it will be compatible.

the problem with replacing the core 2 duo with the newer i5 is the size and pin difference, the core 2 duo is simply smaller than the i5, you would have to buy a new mother board, which in most cases it would be cheaper to just buy a new laptop with the i5 or i7 in it.

The i3-370M. It simply has a faster clock, that i3 can be clocked at 2.4GHz and the Pentium only 2GHz. I think the Pentium is aimed more at the budget market. I looked at a CPU mark score and the i3 has 2,211 and the P6100 is just 1,566. I also guess that the i3 had better integrated graphics than the P6100 if you're not getting one of those mobile cards like the radeon HD 5650 mobility etc.

the i5 480m can turbo-boost to 2.93 whereas the 370m is stuck at 2.4

yes you can but the frame rate is so low you wouldn't bother playing it better you upgrade it to 9600gt which is a good overall performer

Multiple cores only give you additional performance when the OS and software are coded to use them. Typically, all the cores in a multicore processor run at the same speed. um looking at the speed difference the 2 ghz and 2mb cache is better but if the speed diff. was like 2 ghz and 2mb vs 3ghz and 1 mb then go in for the 3 ghz one as in this case the larger memory storage gives u an advantage in many areas

Well, it supports 64-bit instructions, that means you can use it with 64-bit Operating System and install more then 4 gigabyte memory. Basically with nowadays technologies not many applications support 64 bits, so the only advantage is that the OS can see and use more than 4 gigs of RAM. In contrary if install on 32 bits system 4Gigabytes of RAM, it can use only 4Gig minus 640 Mbytes so it sees arround 3.28 Gigabytes. It used mostly on servers.

With Vista, you will find that "handle" depends more on the available memory than the processor. The Core 2 Duo supports EM64T, so it is physically capable of running Vista.
