IQ

Measurement of someone's intelligence through the administration of an intelligence test

3,993 Questions

My IQ is 96 but im just 12 years old what's the meaning of this?

An IQ of 96 means that your IQ is average.

Your age doesn't make a difference to your IQ. In fact, your IQ tends to remain about the same over the whole of life.

An average intelligence is nothing to be worried about. Most people (about 2 thirds) have an average intelligence.

It is smart enough to become a doctor, lawyer or engineer, but you might have to work harder at it than someone with a high IQ.

What is the average act score for a 15 year old male?

The average score for The United States of America is 98. However, IQ is entirely relevant to the test taken and the sample used to norm it.

Internet tests are NOT normed and therefore are not a valid indication of one's IQ. If you subtract 20 points from an internet IQ test, then you may have a more accurate score.

If you are truly interested in your IQ then you must choose a professional test to take and then compare your score to the normed samples of said test.

Anyone who spouts off scores above 120 on internet tests are likely below 100, as is the case with my friend who thought he was a genius based off a score of 135 on the tickle test.

He later took the WAIS-III and scored a 98. I took the tickle test and scores a 140, I also took the WAIS-III and scored a 118. Therefore, we can conclude large discrepancies should theoretically be common.

Btw, my friend graduated with a bachelor's of arts and I dropped out of high school in grade nine. We both work in the same company and I am his boss.

How smart are you when your IQ's 145?

What an IQ of 145 means really depends on the test. On some tests it might means that you are smarter than 99.85% of the population, on others it might mean that you are brighter than about 80% of the population.

Modern IQ tests tend to be designed to give a normal distribution of scores with 100 as the mean. A normal distribution is a bell shape, so that the closer the IQ is to 100, the more people there are with that IQ. Exactly how many for a given IQ depends on something called the standard deviation.

About two thirds of people have an IQ within 1 standard deviation of 100 (the mean). For example, IQ tests commonly have a standard deviation of about +/-15. This means about two thirds of people have an IQ between 85 and 115. You might call this the average range. About 95% of people will be within two standard deviations, so using the same example, about 95% of people will have an IQ between 70 and 130. And 99.7% within 3 standard deviations.

So, on an IQ test with a standard deviation of +/-15, you might say that people with an IQ of 130 or more are above average (in the top 15% or so), and if your IQ is 145 then you are in the top 0.15% of the population.

However, the standard deviation depends on the test. Standard deviations on common tests range from 10 to 24.

Because of this, these days psychologists tend to talk of percentile ranges when talking about IQ with a certain confidence interval. So, you would be far more likely to be told that your IQ is in the 94% percentile range with a confidence interval of 90%

I just took an online IQ test from Free IQTest dot net does anyone know if the tests and scores given by this website are accurate?

No. Online are very broadly accurate, but are a long way from being definitive.

An IQ test needs to be administered by a trained professional, in most countries this means a Psychologist or Psychiatrist. Typically, it will take about 2 hours. If you want a very accurate result, you might need to have multiple tests over the course of a few months.

A good test will measure a lot of different things, and takes a lot of analysis and statistical work to make good sense of the results. For example, a psychologist will take in a lot of other factors that an online test won't be able to, like if you have a specific disability or are tired or distractible. They will also be able to choose a test which is appropriate for you, based on your age and circumstances, and be able to interpret the results.

They will also explain what the results mean.

How 1 and 1 and 1 is equal to 6?

How 1 and 1 and 1 equals to six. You take the 1s (ones) and add them together to get the sum of 3 (three). You then add that sum to the total number of ones there are (which is, again, three) to get the sum of 6 (six). Here is a diagram: 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 + 1(3) = 6 1(3) = 1 x 3 = 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 3 + 3 = 6 There you go! You now know the secret behind that trivial question.

What IQ is required to be a member of MENSA?

Here you go..this is from their international website. The requirements for membership (as to be expected) are the same everywhere.

Membership in Mensa is open to persons who have attained a score within the upper two percent of the general population on an approved intelligence test that has been properly administered and supervised. There is no other qualification or disqualification for membership eligibility. The term "IQ score" is widely used but poorly defined. There are a large number of tests with different scales. The result on one test of 132 can be the same as a score 148 on another test. Some intelligence tests don't use IQ scores at all. Mensa has set a percentile as cutoff to avoid this confusion. Candidates for membership in Mensa must achieve a score at or above the 98th percentile on a standard test of intelligence (a score that is greater than or equal to that achieved by 98 percent of the general population taking the test). Generally, there are two ways to prove that you qualify for Mensa: either take the Mensa test, or submit a qualifying test score from another test. There are a large number of intelligence tests that are "approved". More information on whether a test you have taken is approved, as well as information on the procedure for taking the Mensa test, can be obtained from the nearest Mensa office. There are no on-line tests that can be used for admission to Mensa. Feel free to contact Mensa for specific details about eligibility. Mensa has no other eligibility requirements other than IQ testing. However, many tests are not valid for people under the age of 16. You should contact the nearest Mensa office for more information.
