What does the Quran say about losing weight?

Losing weight is a part of health because obesity is a disease itself and leads to many complications.

so losing weight is indirectly supported by Holy Quran in all those verses that tell Muslims to maintain good health; to consume fruits ( fruits help you lose weight); to consume food in moderate amount ( to be moderate in all paths of life is an important part of faith); to play healthy games and sports (exercise and martial arts is supported in those ayah that tell muslims to prepare for war against evil).

Muhammad (PBUH), advised us to leave one third of our stomach empty when taking our meals.

Holy Prophet (PBUH) forbade to skip dinner - this will help you to prevent weakness and early aging.

N.B: if you want to lose weight for health purposes, it is well supported by Holy Quran and if you want to lose weight for good-looks, it's ok but, make sure that your intentions r not to expose ur body.

If you are looking for some ayah that will help you lose wait then I suggest you to look in some books of "Rohani ilaaj" (treatment with the help of Quranic verses)

Why did the religion of Islam split into two branches?

[Because the "two groups" are not specified in this question, it has been kept separate from the question: Why did Islam split into Sunnis and Shiites? which is a much better-written answer and for which a link is provided below.]

Answer 1

They divided into more then two groups. Like Christianity there are always differences of opinion about interpretation and disagreement about who wields power over the faithful. Over time rifts develop and you end up with different groups under the same religion all claiming to have it right and often committing acts of violence upon each other in order to get more power over those that are just not interested.

Answer 2

Because the Shiites and the Sunni had trouble picking a leader so they split into two groups.

Answer 3

It is not a real split. It is just two different schools that looking differently to some minor issues that not belonging to the main Islam principles. Refer to related question below.

Answer 4

Ali was a member of the Hashim Clan. Ali was Muhammad;s causin and his son-in-law. Mu'awaiya was upset because Uthman's death, which was caused by an angry group of Egyptians. Ali was elected caliph, but Mu'awaiya was pressuring him to charge the people who had killed Uthman. This caused a split between the Muslims. They became the Sunnis and the Shiites.

Answer 5

Sunnis- they feel that decout Muslims can be caliphs. They support the rolde of the first three caliphs, who were not blood-related to Muhammad.

Shiites- NEVER accepted caliphs who werent blood related decendents of Muhammad.

Answer 6

Muslims did not split into two groups. They split into many, many more than that.

According to Muhammad (peace be upon him) the Muslims would break up into many sects. He said "seventy-three", but in the classical Arabic language, the numbers seven, seventy, seven hundred, etc., simply means "a lot".

Then Muhammad said that ALL of those sects are headed for Hell - except ONE.

When he was asked, which one, he replied: The one that remains on what I and my Companions are on today. It is the Majority.

A solid 85% of all Muslims follow the Qur'an and the example of the Prophet. We are referred to as "Sunni" Muslims; but, in fact, we are the original, orthodox, pure Muslims.

In my understanding, ALL of the others have deviated from Islam.

Of course, a Shiite, a Sufi, a Zaydi, an Ahmadi, a Druze, an Alawi, woulddisagree with me. BUT . . . read the Qur'an, and the teachings of Muhammad, and you can see where they have gone astray. My opinion, of course.

Answer 7

The end of the Rightly Guided Caliphs

It was after the sorrowful death of the third Rightful Caliph Hazrat Usman RAU by the rebels that the Muslims split occured. The two groups are now known as Sunni (almost 85%) and Shias (10%).

The rebels killed the third Rightful Caliph and forced Hazrat Ali RAU to become the caliph. It was rumoured about that Hazrat Ali RAU didn't want to save Hazrat Usman RAU from the rebels. While the fact was that Hazrat Ali RAU had deputed two of his sons -Hazrat Hassan RAU and Hazrat Hussain RAU to watch the house of the Caligh and try to defend him. This misunderstanding resulted into bloodshed of thousands of Muslims fighting against one another. Those who favoured Ali were called Shiyan-i-Ali and those who opposed and demanded that the rebels and killers of the caliph should be brought to book were the other group. A third group-Khawarjis- also appeared out from this split.

Answer 8They divide into two schools or groups as the Shiites believed that Ali Ibn Abou Taleb should be the first Caliph after prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) death. However, when Abou Bakr was elected all Muslims; including those opposing Abou Bakr; were all one unity. Again, when Omar and Othman were elected, all Muslims were one unity. Then, Ali Ibn Abou Taleb was elected as the fourth Caliph. All Muslims; irrelevant to their schools; should remain as one unity irrelevant to their minor side differences. It is to be recognized that the differences between these two groups; Suniis and Shiites; are minor and side differences. The basic Islam beliefs are the same for Islamic groups or schools as well as they have the same holy book Qur'an, they have the same ritual worships of praying, fasting, pilgrimage (or Hajj), same direction when praying. It is to be emphasized that the persuasion of the west to deepen differences between Islamic different schools and agitate conflicts among them to help in implementing their policies of the creative disturbance will never succeed. The differences among Islamic schools are never the same as the Christian different denominations and sects. Refer to related question below,

Why did Muslims believe that the Qur'an was the literal word of God?

Because that's what Mohammed claimed it was. To a devout Muslim, the Quran is older than the physical universe, Allah having gotten it ready billions of years ago in preparation for Mohammed being born and reciting it ("Quran" actually means "recitation").

A repressed Islamic sect, the Mutazillites, taught that the Quran, though holy, was a human-created book.

Can a Muslim befriend a non-believer?

Some very conservative Muslims believe that they're all evil and will go to hell. Most Muslims don't think it's right not to believe in God, but they don't really mind them. And of course, a lot of Muslims like me believe that everyone is free to believe what they want and nobody should judge anyone else.

Did the Prophet Muhammad have 13 wives?

Answer 1:He says that a Muslim can have two, three or four wives, provided he treats them all equally and has enough money to support all of them. He also says that a Muslim can have as many concubines (sex-slaves) as he can capture, with nothing about a concubine's right to equal treatment. He says that these rules do not apply to prophets, who can have as many wives as they like.
_____________________________________________________________
Answer 2

The answer above is misleading and not reflecting the true facts.

  1. Islam per Quran revelation to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) limited the number of wives that one cam marry with to four as maximum and subject to strict conditions. There was no limit of number of wives in previous religions and faiths including Judaism and Christianity. This limitation in Islam is imposed by Quran and not by prophet Sunnah.
  2. Having concubines was a common practice before the prophet and was practiced by all faiths and religions all over the world. However, Islam religion imposed rules to limit having concubines. as one of these measures, if one can't afford to marry a free woman he can marry licitly a concubine after approval of her parents and after giving her a present to his capacity. The other measure was that if he gets a child from a concubine then she should be freed and announced as a licit wife to him.
  3. All the marriages of prophet Muhammad were per God instructions him and for the support and benefit of religion and society and to give a practical examples of who you are entitled to marry. He married who is older than him and who is younger. he married the widow and the virgin. He married the Muslim, the Christian, and the Jew wife. etc.

Why do Muslims not eat meat?

They re all wrong. You can eat pork in emergencies and in case of starvation. "Forbidden to you (for food) are: Al‑Maitah (the dead animals - cattle - beast not slaughtered), blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which Allaah's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering (that which has been slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allaah, or has been slaughtered for idols) and that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns - and that which has been (partly) eaten by a wild animal - unless you are able to slaughter it (before its death) ‑ and that which is sacrificed (slaughtered) on An‑Nusub (stone‑altars). (Forbidden) also is to use arrows seeking luck or decision; (all) that is Fisqun (disobedience of Allaah and sin). This day, those who disbelieved have given up all hope of your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these above mentioned meats), then surely, Allaah is Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful".

Brief Answer

Muslims don't eat Pork for the following reasons:

If God, The Creator and the All-Wise, commands us, explicitly, not to eat Pork, then we should obey Him without any debate and without asking why.Forbidding eating pork goes back to the time of Abraham. Pork is forbidden also in Judaism. The fact that consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam is well known.

The following points explain various aspects of this prohibition:

1. Pork prohibited in Qur'an

The Qur'an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115.

"Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah." [Al-Qur'an 5:3]

The above verses of the Holy Qur'an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.

2. Pork prohibited in the Bible

The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus

"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you".

"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you." [Leviticus 11:7-8]

Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy

"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass." [Deuteronomy 14:8]

A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5. Pig cannot be slaughtered at the neck due to its anatomy. To slaughter any animal, Muslims makes an incision through the jugular veins, leaving all other veins and organs intact; thus causing the death of the animal by a total loss of blood from the body. This is similar to the Kosher laws of Judaism. Chemical analysis of this blood shows that it contains an abundance of uric acid, a chemical substance which can be injurious to human health. There is evidence that eating pork has negative impact on health.

Non religious answer

Both Judaism and Islam forbid eating pork, as in the climate in that regions meat goes off easily. Since pork meat doesn't smell when it goes off one may not be able to tell, and get food poisoning.

Interestingly enough, chemical analysis of this blood shows that it contains an abundance of uric acid, a chemical substance which can be injurious to human health. Also, there are many harmful effects of the consumption of pork, in any form, be it pork chops, ham, bacon. Medical science finds that there is a risk for various diseases as the pig is found to be a host for many parasites and potential diseases as the pig's biochemistry excretes only 2% of its total uric acid content, the remaining 98% remains as an integral part of the body. I imagine that in antiquity it would have been noticed that those who frequently ate this meat were subject to various diseases and maladies. Answer B We as Muslims believe that Allah (SW) is a Legislator, not like any other human legislator. He is God who is All Knowing and when he commands us, so that is definitely in our favour, even if our limited minds are unable to understand why. Sometimes we make trials to understand why, and we can fully or partially succeed, but sometimes we still don't understand why; that is to say the above answers could be fully correct or partially correct, because there could be other reasons that Allah (SW) knows but we don't.

If we made a simple test getting a cow, a goat and a pig, starved all of them for a day and kept them in a close place and offered them green grass in one heap and another heap of rotten flesh, bones and blood and see what will happen. I do believe the pork by its nature will go to the rubbish while the others will eat from the grass.

If this is the nature of this being, so the probability of ingesting pathogenic organisms and parasites available in the rubbish will be much higher than the other Herbivora animals, thus in the sense of probability, the pig will be more responsible for transferring diseases to human beings than the other allowable to eat animals.

If somebody told me that we have farms where we offer only grass for our pigs, so no disease transfer is possible, I will tell him that Allah (SW) is a Legislator who when decrees, so that is for all humans not you alone. Can you guarantee that poor people who are in drought will be having your farms to properly take care of their pigs? they will definitely let it eat the rubbish, and accordingly will be more liable to diseases, that is possibly why Allah (SW) wants to save them.

All of the reasons could be exactly or partially the right ones or still there could be other reasons that Allah (SW) knows but we don't, that Allah (SW) knows best.

Allah Almighty prohibits for His servants to eat swine. The Qu'ran says, "Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked a name other than that of Allah." (Al-Ma'idah: 3)

Muslims are forbidden to eat meat that hasn't been completely drained of blood and slaughtered not in a religious way or cause. But are also forbidden to eat certain meat, in this case "pork," because of many other reasons. #NOTE -IF a pig's mating with other animal (eg: goat, camel, llamma or any animal whether by nature or its caused by human activities so the offspring of it (pig & other animal) are also Prohibited (Haram) too.

Answer CPraise be to Allaah.

Firstly: Our Lord has forbidden eating pork in definitive terms. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "Say (O Muhammad): I find not in that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be Maytah (a dead animal) or blood poured forth (by slaughtering or the like), or the flesh of swine (pork); for that surely, is impure or impious (unlawful) meat (of an animal) which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allaah (or has been slaughtered for idols, or on which Allaah's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering)" [al-An'aam 6:145]

By the mercy of Allaah and His kindness towards us, Allaah has permitted us to eat all good things, and He has not forbidden anything but those that are impure. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "he allows them as lawful AtTayyibaat (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), and prohibits them as unlawful AlKhabaa'ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods)" [al-A'raaf 7:157]

We do not doubt for an instant that the pig is a dirty and filthy animal, and that eating it is harmful to man. Moreover it lives on dirt and filth, and it is something that is off-putting to those of a sound nature who refuse to touch it, because eating it is either a cause or a sign of a person's oddness.

Secondly: With regard to the physical harm caused by eating pork, modern science has proved a number of things, such as the following: Pork is regarded as one of the kinds of meat that contain the most cholesterol, an increase of which in the bloodstream leads to an increased likelihood of blocked arteries. The fatty acids in pork are also of an unusual formation, when compared with the fatty acids in other types of food, which makes them more easily absorbed by the body, thus increasing cholesterol levels.

Pork meat and pork fat contribute to the spread of cancers of the colon, rectum, prostate and blood.

Pork meat and pork fat contribute to obesity and related diseases that are difficult to treat. Eating pork leads to scabies, allergies and stomach ulcers.

Eating pork causes lung infections which result from tapeworms, lungworms and microbial infections of the lungs.

The most serious danger of eating pork is that pork contains tapeworms which may grow to a length of 2-3 meters. The growth of the eggs of these worms in the human body may lead to insanity and hysteria if they grow in the area of the brain. If they grow in the region of the heart that may lead to high blood pressure and heart attacks. Another kind of worm that is to be found in pork is the trichinosis worm that cannot be killed by cooking, the growth of which in the body may lead to paralysis and skin rashes.

The doctors have confirmed that tapeworm disease is regarded as one of the serious diseases that may result from eating pork. It may develop in the small intestine and after several months may grow into a large worm whose body is composed of a thousand segments, with a length of 4-10 meters, which lives alone in the intestine of the infected person and part of it may appear when he defecates. When the pig swallows and ingests its eggs, they enter the tissues and muscles in the form of larvae sacs containing fluid and the head of the tapeworm. When a person eats infected pork, the larva turns into a complete worm in the intestine. These worms cause weakness and vitamin B12 deficiency, which leads to a specific type of anaemia, which may in turn cause nervous problems. In some cases the larvae may reach the brain, causing convulsions, increased pressure within the brain, epilepsy and even paralysis.

Eating pork that is not thoroughly cooked may also lead to trichinosis (infestation with a hairlike nematode worm). When these parasites reach the small intestine, three to five days later many larvae appear which enter the intestine and reach the blood, from which they reach most of the tissues of the body. The larvae move to the muscles and form cysts there, and the patient suffers intense muscle pains. The disease may develop into infection of the cerebral membrane and brain, and infections of the heart muscle, lungs, kidneys and nerves. It may be a fatal disease in rare cases.

It is well known that there are some diseases that are unique to humans and are nor shared with any other animals except pigs, such as rheumatism and joint pain. Allaah indeed spoke the truth when He said (interpretation of the meaning):

"He has forbidden you only the Maytah (dead animals), and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allaah (or has been slaughtered for idols, on which Allaah's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity without willful disobedience nor transgressing due limits, then there is no sin on him. Truly, Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful" [al-Baqarah 2:173]

These are some of the harmful effects of eating pork. Perhaps after studying them you will not have any doubts that it is forbidden. We hope that this will be the first step in your being guided towards the true religion. So stop, research, look and think, objectively and fairly, seeking only to find out the truth and follow it. I ask Allaah to guide you to that which is best for you in this world and in the Hereafter.

But even if we did not know about the harmful effects of eating pork, this would not change our belief that it is haraam in the slightest, or weaken our resolve to abstain from it. You know that when Adam (peace be upon him) was expelled from the Garden, it was because he ate from the tree from which Allaah forbade him to eat. We do not know anything about that tree, and Adam did not need to enquire into the reason why it was forbidden to eat from it. Rather it was sufficient for him, as it is sufficient for us and for every believer, to know that Allaah has forbidden it.

Look at some of the harmful effects of eating pork; look at the research of the Fourth Annual Conference of Islamic Medicine, Kuwait edition, p. 731 ff; and al-Wiqaayah al-Sihhiyyah fi Daw' al-Kitaab wa'l-Sunnah by Lu'lu'ah bint Saalih, p. 635 ff.

But we ask you once again: Isn't pork forbidden in the Old Testament which forms part of your Holy Book?

"Do not eat any detestable thing. These are the animals you may eat The pig is also unclean; although it has a split hoof, it does not chew the cud, you are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses." (Deuteronomy 14:3-8) See also Leviticus 11-1-8.

We do not need to quote evidence that pork is forbidden for the Jews. If you have any doubt then ask people and they will tell you. But what we think we need to draw you attention to is some other things that are also mentioned in your Holy Book, this time in the New Testament which tells you that the rulings of the Torah still apply to you and cannot be changed. Does't it say in the Bible that the Messiah said:

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." Matthew 5:17-18?

With this text, we do not need to look for another ruling on pork in the New Testament, but we will add here another quotation which shows definitively that pork is impure:

"A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. The demons begged Jesus: 'Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.' He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs." Mark 5:11-13

Perhaps you will say that this is abrogated, and that Peter said such and such and Paul said such and such?

This is changing the words of Allaah and abrogating the Torah and the words of the Messiah who confirmed to you that it would abide as long as heaven and earth remain. Can this be abrogated by the words of Paul or Peter?

Let us assume that this is true and that the prohibition was indeed abrogated, but why are you criticizing this prohibition in Islam when it was prohibited for you at first?

Because it's an explicit command from Allah in the holy Quran not to eat it.

I am a Muslim and we cannot eat pork (pig) or any animal that consumes meat or is beneficial to mankind, like a horse for example. The number one reason for Muslims not eating pork is because it is an order from Allah and we must obey his command. Of course people will question so their is a number of logical reasons we cannot. One being that the pig is unclean, sometimes eating its own feces, also pork, bacon, etc. has no nutrients beneficial to the human body. Protein from bacon cannot be digested by the human body, so all your really getting is fat. Also the pig only digests in 8-9 hours and that is bad it is not long enough to take out all the nutrients to benifit and filter the bad stuff. But cows sheep lamb etc take 24-72 hours wich means more cleaning. which would you rather put in your body?

The only reason for Muslims not eating pork is because it is an order from Allah and they must obey HIS command. It is simply a test of faith, as nowhere in the Qur'an does it specify any reason, such as the pig being unclean or harmful. The only exception to this command is if the Muslim would literally imminently die of starvation and the pork was the only food available to eat. Sources: Qu'ran [Al Baqarah 2/173], [Al-Ma-idah 5/3], [Al-An'am 6/145], [An-Nal 16/115]

Muslims are forbidden to eat meat that hasn't been completely drained of blood and slaughtered not in a religious way. But are also forbidden to eat certain meat, in this case "pork," because of other reasons. Here is the reason to why Muslims can't eat pork?

Well as we all know "pork" come from pig. Pig is known as a dirty animal in Islam. But why? Well, the fats and oils of the pig, is unclean and dirty. Pork also contains harmful and deadly parasites such as tapeworms. Pork, is the meat with the most fats. And there are reasons even in the "Bible" why meat from pigs is not good for human health, these reasons can be found in the passage, Leviticus 11:7-8.

muslims are not allowed to eat pigs because alah has told all the muslims actully including christans not to eat pigs..... well the main reson is because big is a nasty animal.... what alah ( muslims belive) god has forbidden.....................
It is explicitly for forbidden for Muslims to eat pork per God command in Qur'an.

Brief Answer

Muslims don't eat Pork for the following reasons:

  • If God, The Creator and the All-Wise, commands us, explicitly, not to eat Pork, then we should obey Him without any debate and without asking why.
  • Forbidding eating pork goes back to the time of Abraham. Pork is forbidden also in Judaism.
  • The fact that consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam is well known.

  • Pig cannot be slaughtered at the neck due to its anatomy.
  • There is evidence that eating pork has negative impact on health.

Answer BWe as Muslims believe that Allah (SW) is a Legislator, not like any other human legislator.

NOTEIF a pig's mating with other animal (eg: goat, camel, llamma or any animal whether by nature or its caused by human activities so the offspring of it (pig & other animal) are also Prohibited (Haram) too.Answer CPraise be to Allaah.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "…he allows them as lawful At‑Tayyibaat (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al‑Khabaa'ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods)" [al-A'raaf 7:157]

‎Pork meat and pork fat contribute to the spread of cancers of the colon, rectum, prostate and blood.

These worms cause weakness and vitamin B12 deficiency, which leads to a specific type of anemia, which may in turn cause nervous problems.

We do not know anything about that tree, and Adam did not need to inquire into the reason why it was forbidden to eat from it.

These are the animals you may eat… The pig is also unclean; although it has a split hoof, it does not chew the cud, you are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses." (Deuteronomy 14:3-8) See also Leviticus 11-1-8.

Perhaps you will say that this is abrogated, and that Peter said such and such and Paul said such and such…?

This is changing the words of Allaah and abrogating the Torah and the words of the Messiah who confirmed to you that it would abide as long as heaven and earth remain. Can this be abrogated by the words of Paul or Peter?

Let us assume that this is true and that the prohibition was indeed abrogated, but why are you criticizing this prohibition in Islam when it was prohibited for you at first?

Because it's an explicit command from Allah in the holy Qur'an not to eat it.
Muslims don't eat pork for many reasons.

  1. If God, The Creator and the All-Wise, commands us, explicitly, not to eat Pork, then we should obey Him without any debate and without asking why.
  2. Forbidding eating pork goes back to the time of Abraham. Pork is forbidden also in Judaism. Some Christians believe that it is forbidden also in Christianity which is logic as it is forbidden in Judaism (before Christianity) and in Islam (after Christianity.
  4. There are some evidences that eating pork has negative impact on health.
  5. Also at that time and in the middle east pigs were unhealthy themselves, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that eating an unhealthy animal would be unhealthy for you.

Muslims can't eat pig because it is haram
Firstly, because God commands it in the Quran. Also, Muslims believe pigs are very dirty animals. They are fed garbage, roll in the mud, and often have disease and worms. If the saying "You are what you eat" holds true, it is easy to see why Muslims do not eat pigs.

God provides guidance to Mankind in every area of life. His message to humanity is not just about praying and being good. His guidance is about showing us all that is good to do and all that is bad to do. God's revelations give guidance about things like birth, death, marriage, divorce, business, warfare, clothing and, yes, diet. Certain foods are forbidden because they are bad for people. Pork is one of them. The Qur'an says that pig meat is "evil"; it must be avoided. Muslim scholars have found that pigs have little or no cleanliness - they will even eat manure. they also have no good sexual habits - they do not mate with one, but go around to many. Perhaps these things indicate an 'evil' we should avoid. perhaps we are what we eat.

"Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine,

and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah."

[Al-Qur'an 5:3]

The above verses

Pork is not only forbidden in Islam but also in Christianity and Judaism.

Eating of pork can cause no less than seventy different types of diseases.

Pork has fat building material

Pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth

Pig is the most shameless animal

In Islamic dietary law the flesh of swine is explicitly forbidden as stated in the Qur'an and Hadith. Pork meat is known to harbour harmful pathogens and parasites such as worms. This is partly down to their opportunistic and omnivorous diet - They'll eat almost anything. Also pork does not keep well and goes off a lot faster than other meats. In the Arabian desert and Levant, pork would have been much more difficult to keep and it would have gone stale much quicker due to the climate. This would have made the transmission of pork born diseases much more likely thus the prohibition of pork in Islam and even in Judaism.

Pigs are also omnivorous as they eat both plants and meat. Animals that eat the flesh of other animals are themselves generally considered unlawful to eat.

Why did Muhammad divorce his first wife?

When Muhammad was twenty-five years old he married for the first time. His wife, Khadijah, was fifteen years older than him. She remained the only wife of the prophet for the next twenty-five years, until she died (may Allah be pleased with her). Only after her death did the prophet marry other women.

Now, it is obvious that if the prophet was after physical pleasure he did not have to wait until he was more than fifty years old to start marrying more wives. He lived in a society in which it was quite acceptable to have many wives. But the prophet remained devoted to his only wife for twenty-five years. When she died she was sixty-five years old. His later marriages were for various reasons.

Some marriages were with the view to help the women whose husbands had been killed while they were defending their faith. Others were with a view to cement relationships with devoted followers like Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him. Yet others were to build bridges with various tribes who were otherwise at war with the Muslims. When the prophet became their relative through marriage, their hostilities calmed down, and much bloodshed was averted. Recent non-Muslim writers who had the opportunity to study the life of the prophet first-hand reached a similar conclusion about his plural marriages.

John L. Esposito, Professor of Religion and Director of the Centre for International Studies at the College of the Holy Cross, says that most of these marriages had "political and social motives" (Islam: The Straight Path, Oxford University Press, 1988, p. 19). This he explained as follows: As was customary for Arab chiefs, many were political marriages to cement alliances. Others were marriages to the widows of his companions who had fallen in combat and were in need of protection (John L. Esposito, Islam: The Straight Path, pp. 19-20). Esposito reminds us of the following historical fact: Though less common, polygyny was also permitted in biblical and even in post-biblical Judaism. From Abraham, David, and Solomon down to the reformation period, polygyny was practiced (p. 19).

Another non-Muslim Caesar E. Farah writes as follows: In the prime of his youth and adult years Muhammad remained thoroughly devoted to Khadijah and would have none other for consort. This was an age that looked upon plural marriages with favor and in a society that in pre-biblical and post-biblical days considered polygamy an essential feature of social existence. David had six wives and numerous concubines (2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3) and Solomon was said to have had as many as 700 wives and 300 concubines (1 Kings 11:3) Solomon?s son Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines (2 Chronicles 11:21).

The New Testament contains no specific injunction against plural marriages. It was commonplace for the nobility among the Christians and Jews to contract plural marriages. Luther spoke of it with toleration (Caesar E. Farah, Islam: Beliefs and Observances, 4th edition, Barron?s, U.S. 1987, p. 69). Caesar Farah then concluded that Muhammad?s plural marriages were due "partly to political reasons and partly to his concern for the wives of his companions who had fallen in battle defending the nascent Islamic community" (p. 69). When people hear that the prophet had many wives they conclude without much thought that the prophet was a sensuous man. However, a quick historical review of his marriages, proves otherwise.

____________________________________________________________

All the other marriages of prophet Mohammad (PBUH) were due to circumstances… either of a social reform, or a political gain. The Qur'an mentions in Surah Nisa, Chapter 4, Verse No. 3, that you can maximum have 4 wives. But there is another Verse in Surah Ahzab, Ch. 33, and Verse 52, which says that... 'O Prophet you cannot marry more women, neither can you exchange any other women for the present one, even if their beauty attracts you, except what your right hand possesses. This Verse of the Qur'an, Surah Ahzab, Ch. 33, Verse No. 52, gives the permission to the Prophet, to keep all his wives, but at the same time, cannot marry any other women, except which your right hand possesses. If you analyse why Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was not allowed to marry more wives - and besides that, he could not neither divorce them, because there is one more Verse in the Qur'an, which says that… 'As for the wives of the Prophet, whether they are divorced or whether they become widows, no person can marry them; because they are Um-ul Mominin… they are the Mothers of the believers'. So since no one could marry the wives of the Prophet, but natural …the Prophet could not divorce them also.

And if you analyse, that all the eleven marriages which the Prophet did… all were either for social reform or for political reason - Were not to please his sex or desire. The first marriage that he did was with Khatija, (May Allah be pleased with her). She was at the age of 40, when he was only 25 - And she was a widow twice. Imagine, if he married for sex or his desire, why would he marry a woman who was fifteen years elder to him, and who was a widow twice. And if you analyse, till the time Khatija (May Allah be pleased with her)… till the time she was alive, Prophet Muhammad did not take any other wives. When he was the age of 50, Bibi Khatija (May Allah be pleased with her) died. Only between the ages of 53 to 56, did Prophet take all the other wives. Imagine… if the Prophet was hyper sexual, he would have married at a young age. Science tells us… 'The older the man gets, the less sexual he gets'. It is an insinuation, on the Prophet. Only 2 of his marriages were normal -with Bib Khatija (MABPWH) and Bibi Ayesha (MABPWH) All the other marriages were due to circumstances… either of a social reform, or a political gain.

If you analyse all, only 2 wives were below the age of 36 - All the other wives were between the age of 36 and 50 - You can give instances… each marriage had some reason. For example Johariya, who was from the Banu-Mustalik tribe… which very powerful tribe, was, and which was at logger heads with Islam - After a certain time, they were suppressed by the Islamic Army, and later on, the Prophet married her. And after he married her, the companions said…'How can we keep as captives, the relatives of the Prophet' - And they freed those people…and after that, both these tribes became friendly. There are examples, when he married Maimoona (May Allah be pleased with her), who was the sister of the wife of the chief of the tribe of Najad, which killed 70 Muslim, men of the Islamic deputation. After Mohammed (May peace be upon him)… when he married her, they accepted Medina as their leadership, and they accepted Prophet as their leader. All the… all the marriages which he did, had some political reason or social reform. He married Umme Habiba, who was the daughter of the Chief of Mecca, Abu-Sufiyan - but natural this marriage played a great importance in the conquest of Mecca. Other example like Safiya (May Allah be pleased with her), she was the daughter of a powerful Jewish leader - After this, the Jewish became very friendly to the Muslims. If you see, all the marriages had some social reforms - he married the daughter of Hazrat Ummer, Hafsa (May Allah be pleased with her), to get closer relationship between the companions. As a social reform, he married a lady who was divorced…the first cousin Zainab - After she was divorced, he married her. All the marriages have some political reason or social reform - So all his marriages were based, to improve the community and to better relationships - It was not for sex.

Polygamy in the Bible: The Bible allows polygamy in both the Old Testament and the New Testament in unlimited numbers. In Exodus 21:10, a man can marry an infinite amount of women without any limits to how many he can marry. In 2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3, King David had six wives and numerous concubines. In 1 Kings 11:3, King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. In 2 Chronicles 11:21, King Solomon's son Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines. In Deuteronomy 21:15 "If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other and both bear him sons...." Qur'an permits limited polygamy As I mentioned earlier, Qur'an is the only religious book on the face of the earth that says 'marry only one'. The context of this phrase is the following verse from Surah Nisa of the Glorious Qur'an: "Marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one." [Al-Qur'an 4:3] Before the Qur'an was revealed, there was no upper limit for polygamy and many men had scores of wives, some even hundreds. Islam put an upper limit of four wives. Islam gives a man permission to marry two, three or four women, only on the condition that he deals justly with them. In the same chapter i.e. Surah Nisa verse 129 says: "Ye are never able to be fair and just as between women...." [Al-Qur'an 4:129] Therefore polygamy is not a rule but an exception. Many people are under the misconception that it is compulsory for a Muslim man to have more than one wife. Broadly, Islam has five categories of Do's and Don'ts: i. 'Fard' i.e. compulsory or obligatory ii. 'Mustahab' i.e. recommended or encouraged iii. 'Mabah' i.e. permissible or allowed iv. 'Makruh' i.e. not recommended or discouraged v. 'Haraam' i.e. prohibited or forbidden Polygamy falls in the middle category of things that are permissible. It cannot be said that a Muslim who has two, three or four wives is a better Muslim as compared to a Muslim who has only one wife.

______________________________________________________

if you will learn & study about Islam so you won't come in this misunderstanding. Islam allows a man to marry upto four & a Prophet to marry upto 11.

"Marry woman of your choice by two, three or four. But if you cannot do justice between them MARRY ONLY ONE." [Qur'an 4:3]

The only religious book on earth which has this statement "MARRY ONLY ONE." is Qur'an. There is no religious book on earth which says Marry only one.

I never saw any Muslim in my life who ever had several wives (more than one). About Prophet Muhammad so he married total 13 but not at the same time. Prophet never married anyone until the death of Khadija neither he married to 13 women at the same time. He stayed with 11 but in his whole life he was married 13th time.

When he was the age of 50, Khatija (May Allah be pleased with her) died. Only between the ages of 53 to 56, did Prophet take all the other wives.

Imagine… if the Prophet was hyper sexual, he would have married at a young age. Science tells us… 'The older the man gets, the less sexual he gets'. It is an insinuation, on the Prophet. Only 2 of his marriages were normal -with Khatija (MABPWH) and Ayesha (MABPWH)

All the other marriages were due to circumstances… either of a social reform, or a political gain.

After Muhammed (May peace be upon him)… when he married her, they accepted Medina as their leadership, and they accepted Prophet as their leader.

And this Polygamy thing isn't new, it is practiced by Prophets before Muhammad themselves. It is people who like to edit stuffs in their Religions that's why non of them is in it's pure form. Muslims do what Islam teaches not what their parents followed.

1. Prophet Abraham: 3 wives (Sarah, Hagar, Caesura).
2. Prophet Jacob: 4 wives (Lea, Zelda, Rachael, Palma).
3. Prophet Moses: 4 wives (Safire, Gibshia, bint Kini, bint Hobab).
4. Prophet David: 9 wives.
5. Prophet Solomon: 700 wives and 300 slaves.

Why did Muslims divide after Muhammad died?

After the death of Muhammad in 632, two faction rose: the majority Sunni and minority Shia. The Sunni wanted to elect or choose their own leader. The Shia wanted a member of the Prophet's family to lead and chose Imam Ali, the cousin of the Prophet and husband of Muhammad's daughter Fatimah.

The Sunni faction won out and elected the first caliph. Ali was eventually chosen as the fourth caliph, but two of his predecessors were murdered, and nearly endless war has brewed between Sunni and Shiites since Muhammad's passing. Ali, as the fourth caliph, fell and died in battle near the town of Kufa in 661.

Ali's son Hussein took leadership of the Shia faction after the death of his father, and continued the war with the Sunnis. He fell in battle with 71 of his family members at Karbala, his head was taken in tribute to the caliph in Damascus and his body was interred on the battlefield.

The greatest schism perhaps between Shia and Sunni is the almost divination of Shia leaders, known as Imam. Many Sunni believe that Shia place their Imam almost on a level with God, perhaps the greatest sin of all. This becomes most supportable with the story of the Hidden Imam.

In the tenth century, the Twelfth Shiite Imam rose to power. The legend goes that God took Madhi (the Messiah) and put him into hiding. This Madhi is said will return in the end days and make the Koran fully manifest (sound familiar Apocalyptic Christians?)

Fighting between the factions continued for centuries after the passing of Muhammad, as well as with Christian Crusaders, and the Mongols. Ottoman Turkey spread it further, but by 1500 Sunni power was set in Persia where it was met by the Azeri conquerors, shifting Persia (modern day Iran and Iraq) to Shia control. The Safavid Dynasty established Persia as its center of power and distinguished itself from Sunni controlled Ottoman Turkey and Mughal India.

The fighting continues today, nearly unabated since 632.

Shiite Perspective

Hazrat Muhammad have learned from Gabriel (an angel who serves to God as a messenger) that Imam Ali must his successor. After Muhammad's death, when his family was entombing him, some groups that were Muhammads helpers (also know as 'Ansar Group' and 'Mohajer Group') were ready to choose the successor! But somebodies told them "the successor is Imam Ali!" but they didn't recognize to their words.

So, they chose 'Abu Bakr' as their king and leader while it belonged to Imam Ali.

As what Imam Ali said in 'Nahj Al-balaghe' (a book about his own quotes and mails) that have told "I thought hard, but I understand if I want to get what belongs to me, Islam will destroy under the War will happen" so he wait and wait a long time ago...

So, after 25 years, three leaders come and go until people were under the sin and oppression, so people, who want a good leader, came to Imam Ali and wanted him to be their leader. Imam Ali didn't accept so people wanted more. At last, Imam Ali accept it but he said to all of them 'If I be your leader I will do the right work and will never help to the ones that want to command people and bother people '

In the end, Those who wanted that Imam Ali be their leader, killed him while Imam Ali knew.

So why he didn't do anything to survive? Cause that was his time to go to God and this accident MUST happened.

How did the Islamic religion start?

The Islamic religion started in Saudi Arabia.

A:Islamic belief states that God sent Prophets to all parts of the world and at all times to guide humanity on the correct path. So, Islam is as old as the history of humankind, and is a religion since time immemorial (ever since Adam came into being on this Earth). Refer to question below for more information.

Prophet Muhammad is the final Messenger of God, and Qur'an confirms the revelations that came before it. The Qur'an is the Divine Speech of God (Allah) revealed to Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) through Angel Jibril (Gabriel). Thus, Muslims believe in all the Prophets from Abraham, Solomon, David, Moses to Jesus and finally Muhammad.

The earlier Scriptures have the word of man mixed with the word of God, but the Qur'an is preserved in its original form, hence Muslims obey it in letter and spirit.
