One way to transfer music from an Ipod to a computer is using windows explorer to directly copy the files to the hard drive. Your iPod must have disk usage enabled.
Go to 'Start->My Computer' and click on the drive whose name is the name of your iPod. Now, you can only view the songs on the iPod if you have enabled viewing of invisble files on your computer. To do this, click on 'Tools->Options' and click on the 'View' tab. Under where it says 'Advanced Settings' you should see something entitled 'Hidden Files and Folders.' Expand this and select the option 'Show Hidden Files and Folders.' Click on apply and close the dialog.
Now, you should see a somewhat transparent folder called 'Ipod_Control.' Open this folder. You then should see a folder called 'Music.' Open this folder, and you will see a whole bunch of folders named 'F00', 'F01', 'F02... etc. These folders contain your music. Copy all of the folders and paste them into a folder on your hard drive, such as 'C:\Music.' Go back to iTunes and click on 'File->Add folder to Library.' Select the folder 'C:\Music.'
After the processing is all done, all your songs should be back into your library. Copying the music folders to the hard drive could take a while depending on how much music you have, but patience is a virtue!

(You'll probably have to re-enter your password) Once you are looking at your account information, there is a section about the number of computers you have authorised. I don't know if you can de-autho a particular one, but you can de-autho all of them at once. Then go back to re-autho the ones you want to use. It's a bit of a pain to do it that way, but it's the only way I can think of!
For what it's worth, I had to do the same thing recently. I didn't lose any of my music or videos!!
