We can't tell you anything about your revolver from the serial number alone. If there is no model name or number marked on it, try to locate it in Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms or Gun Trader's Guide. Both of these books should be available at your local library.

I read that the owlhead Iver Johnson 38 was popular around 1940 and was a gift from a grocery store if you paid your bill with cash. I bought one at pawn shop for one forty. "execellent condition"PS use black powder ammo.

It's not actually a rifle, it's a shotgun. It fires a .44 XL shot, which is basically a .44 casing with a paper pouch with 8 shot in it. I had my grandpa's looked at in the Cabela's gun library and they said that even though they stopped making it around 1920 it's still only worth $250-$400 depending on condition. They offered me $350 for mine and it's got a couple scratches and is serial numbered 4988.

as long as it is not a damascus barrel and is in safe working order yes i only use vintage single shots and use modern shells all the time but rember NEVER NEVER in a damascus barrel

All IJ 9MM carbines are rifles. The receiver itself is not for a firearm, it is the firearm, missing some important other parts though, legally it is the firearm itself. The word carbine would indicate that it is more towards the rifle side of things, but a carbine in itself is a shortened easy handling rifle.

Iver Johnsons can be hard to identify. Would need to know if it has the tip-up frame or a solid frame, what the patent dates are and where the patent dates are located. sales@countrygunsmith.net

If it needs parts, value is going to be under $200. We see complete functions Hercules shotguns selling for $300 and under regularly in typical used condition. The Auto & Burglar shotgun was an Ithaca product, not an Iver Johnson. It was a double barrel 20ga pistol made from 1922-1934. Typically had 10" barrels. These guns are considered 'Any Other Weapons' under the National Firearms Act, and although registered and "papered" specimens can be worth $1000 or more, UNregistered guns are contraband and can not be possessed nor sold. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Try ebay. That is where I found one. Also, depending on how much has been split back, the barrel can be shortened, recrowned and either jug-choked by backboring or even interchangeable chokes can be installed. sales@countrygunsmith.net

owning one of these mkaes this an easy answer. these were made between 1932 and 1955. this is a great 22 short rifle. very accurate. also has the neat safety lock feature on it.

President McKinley was shot with the same model gun. The patent dates are 1896 and 1899.

Can't give a positive answer however I just paid 80 dollars for one in good shape.
